Seems to be much better than I expected! I didn't know that PI can make good games of this type. But they really should have included other eastern front campaigns to this game, like the outstandingly huge and very intense battle of Kursk. Battle of Kharkov is just battle of Kursk's jounger brother.
the graphics may not be top of the line DX 11, but they are more than good enough. For the military gami g enthusiasts out there, this game is looking awsome! I haven't seen a game like this since Close Combat. Theatre of War comes close, but it doesnt have a strategic map like Achtung Panzer Kharkov does.
Yes, for this wargame the GFX are great. Its gameplay that count when it comes to such games. And Russians are famous for creating good wargames and stretegy games. Btw i still play close combat (Matrix did a revamp).
I,m happ y that we can play russian strategy games. They never let me down
When u only care about GFX and don,t care about gameplay because thats the main issue when it comes to wargames like this one then you better go play on consoles and play arcade brainless games
Oh, and I nearly forgot. A war between good and evil, black vs white, both sides were completely opposed and clearly defined. Nazi's and Japanese were unquestionably the bad guys.
In a Desert storm, if I'd want to play the good guys, I would'nt play US side...
Whats wrong with WWII? A war spanning 6 years, a war fought ferociously over all continents by air, sea and land. A war with countless massive and fierce battles in every situation, massive naval invasions, the greatest airlandings, the biggest fleets. No, compared to WWII, every other war is insignificant, except for WWI. Desert storm? peanuts, Arab-israeli wars? insignificant, Balkan wars? a skirmish.
That's why WWII is, and always will be, a great inspiration for games.
Not that I would mind but maybe because WWI was a stalemate for most of the war, which is something that make coming by good gameplay ideas a little troublesome.
So basically a top-down wargame from the olden days merged with an RTT? It's nice but I wish people would move on from WW2. Almost no one has touched the Arab-Israeli Wars for example.
The only good series I've seen come of it have been CoH, RO and BiA. All the rest have been mediocre, I suppose MoH and the first CoD were good, but certainly not as good as the first 3. Either way, much can be done with it.
People need to get away from Normandy, North Africa and the Eastern Front. For WWII there's Finland, the Burma Campaign with the Indian Army, 1941 in Iraq plus China. All good stuff publishers never want to see developers make due to "demographics" and all that shit.
See? You're a prime example of those who believe World War II is all Europe and the Pacific. Maybe you think that World War I was all mud, Maxims and trenches right?
Personally I'd say Arab-Israeli wars are still a big no-no when it comes to mainstream gaming, which IMO explains part of the reason why people are careful around the subject, because it's still extremely controversial since the conflict is (in a sense at least) still ongoing.
Anyway, I'm greatly looking forward to this, spoke to the devs a few times at SimHQ, they're a very talented and friendly bunch, glad to see they picked Paradox as their publisher.
This game seems awesome, Great simple graphics that doesnt look like toy like todays games has. and the atmosphere has a real war scene

NO.
There's a tutorial.
You can go to "control setting" > "game and realism setting"
and then choose "enable tutorial" mode.

Until then, the new Combat Mission is holding all my interest.

@ZenTex1 Don't forget it was also the last war fought before nuclear weapons were invented.
If Star Trek: Voyager is any indication, people will still be playing World War II games in the 24th century. :-)
