  • went there as a kid... was fascinating to see that big castle in the middle of California [=

  • @ShaktipatSeer2 I agree! I went for the first time when I was about 15 and was amazed to see such a grand estate in laid-back California. I remember loving the pool the most. I still want to swim in that pool!

  • Wow! this is beautifull...? I know you mentioned his mistress....but where was his wife ???? I would love to visit this castle one day....visited several and enjoy them all....thanks for this great video and keep them coming.....

  • @TheKentuckylady717 Thanks for the kind words. I'm so glad you enjoy our videos! To answer your question, Millicent moved to New York City in the 1920s after Hearst openly admitted his affair with Davies. Millicent lived on her own as a society woman and philantropist, and was a great advocate for the poor. The mansion is well worth a visit, and is one of the most amazing buildings in California.

  • Does anyone LIVE there?

and if they don't, why can't they? it's JUST a tour site?

  • @crazysox305 William Randolph Hearst did live there, but now it's run by the park service as a tour site.

  • Can you go swimming in the pool?

  • @junkers1337 If only. :)

  • It's an absolutely amazing place, anyone taking a trip to the California coast..it's a must see ..

  • @914light I agree!

  • I went there . It's so big !

  • Ok, I'll take it but I want closing costs.

  • @MrMotocall Ha! :)

  • i remember taking that bus there :D

  • dude this place is crazy!

  • @Mr3ggy Yes it is!

  • how deep is the napoleon pool?

  • @Karen12307 The Neptune Pool is 3 1/2 feet deep in the shallow end and 10 feet deep in the deep end.

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips oh, i typed it napoleon! error! hahahah!! but anyway, this pool is really intriguing. thanks for the info!

  • @Karen12307 You're welcome!

  • I went to Hearst Castle when I was 15. I'd have to say my favorite part of it was the indoor pool and The Neptune Pool. I can only imagine how long it takes to clean the Neptune pool since it's the size of a football field. I did have a lot of fun being there. It's an amazing place and I might go there when I turn 30 or maybe go to Santa Cruz. Thanks for this video. :)

  • @ScooterGuy29 Thanks for the comment! Santa Cruz is great too! :) Veronica

  • We went here in 1980...Took lots of pics!! I remember gold taps in the bathrooms!

  • I'm there right now!!!!

  • @Anthonyk312 Lucky! :)

  • Over a thirty year period I visited the Hearst Castle twice. Truly amazing how they lived in such splendor.

  • I went to this tour when I was 15! It was awesome!

  • I went to the castle. We were allowed to touch anything & this one girl put her hands on the pool table & was yelled at by the tour guide. They do not play about keeping everything clean

  • @bmrcutiepie Yes, there are some priceless treasures in there. I'm sure they want to protect everything.

  • I went here when i was like 10. And it took the whole day to tour a fraction of the estate.

  • @yomamapoops Yes, I know! The place is massive!

  • I went on a tour here. The pool she mentions at the very end is plated with gold tiles on the bottom :O

  • @nwesterbeckmaster It's beautiful!

  • my tour had a funny lady

  • I was wondering where you got the information on that 6:30 Cocktail hour you mentioned because Mr. Hearst did not allow his guests any Alcohol...if they were caught with any at any time they were escorted off the estate never to be invited again...I had actor friends who are now passed away but they told me of those weekends of stars there when Hearst would limo them there, also this is told in my friends book of his life story which I have and I know NO alcohol was a very strict Rule of Hearst.

  • @Maskedman46 He didn't allow people to go wild, but would allow them a small cocktail under his supervision. Our information came directly from the historian on site.

  • @CaliforniaTravelTips

Thank you Veronica but I have to believe my old friends who went there weekends who were huge actors in movies...

One was Charles "Buddy" Rogers married to Mary Pickford...they all said, No Alcohol was allowed on the property at all...

The historian was not there but my friends were...

    ~MM~

  • excuse me mam i think thats my house

  • @Darkviper360 Ha ha! :)

  • the castle would be MORE liqurious if I lived in it : )

  • ive been there before its beautiful theres this indoor pool and it has an arch over it i wanna go there again its so beautiful

  • The most luxurious parts of the castle are the Indoor Roman and the Neptune pool.

  • @mundabi Yes, wouldn't it be cool to go swimming in either of them? My favorite is the Neptune pool.

  • @mundabi Agreed. <3 pools

  • This looks like bulit for KING & QUEEN of the country not a rich or a millionaire. it just soo grand & royal!

  • @Bk94541 I agree! It's pretty amazing.

  • watch "earth after people"... this castle has 56 bedrooms in total and can withstand massive earthquakes...

  • i want to LIVE there

  • @capchio Wouldn't that be nice!

  • I watched it for a school project lol

  • I DID A REPORT ON THE CASTLE AND ITS COOL

  • Their lives WERE Monopoly

  • Me & my family visited the Hearst Castle when we were in San Luis Obispo at Circle Bar B Ranch.

It was amazing! I certainly remember the dining room, and Neptune's pool, and the Roman pool!

  • i wana go again ive only been there once :P

  • what a beautiful place. i cant wait to see it! oh and subscribe and check out my channel!

  • I've been there once before, but I'm going in 2 more days for my second time.

  • @GMOddxballer Cool! Have a great time!

  • I Love it over there, i visited , once

  • Something that would enhance a future video clip would be to use Al Stewart's song 'Marion the Chatelaine' which is about Marion Davies.

  • @davenachfan Good idea, but that is copyrighted material. We can only use royalty-free stuff.

  • Crikey this chap Hearst had a serious roll was folding big time must have cost him a fortune . Seems owning a newspaper pays pretty well .

  • would LOVE to take a dip in the Neptune pool

  • Hearst Castle is AMAZING! I love it! It's beautiful.

  • @xXHelloKittyAnimexX I agree. I'd love to go for their Christmas in the Castle program.

  • sweetest crib in cali

  • @NarisTorquere Oh, ya!

  • @NarisTorquere thanks bruh

  • Sir(s): Thank you. Merci. Have a Nice Day. --J. D.

  • wow

  • I have been there and I will tell you this it is one of the most impressive sights I have seen. If you are into architecture it is incredible and hard to believe that this much wealth could be accumulated while people were starving in the streets of America.

  • @IngloriusBastard11 I agree. It's an amazing place!

  • I was there in 1995. It was my first time in california and i will never forget.

  • I have been there. Its amazing.

  • this one of my top 2 fav castles/mansions

    1. is hearst

    2. is winchester

  • @dying2comment I've never been to Winchester but would love to go!

  • The Neptune Pool is truly a sight to behold. It's so much more beautiful in person. I've only visited the Castle once but it's something I will never forget.

  • My sister works there so i get to swim we get to swim in the neptune pool every year :)

  • @twilightery01 Wow, that would be something truly amazing. You are very lucky!

  • Hey what are you people doing in my house. LOL

  • It's beautiful<3 I went and it left me in awe(:

  • @hold0n946 Me too!

  • this place is nothing compared to Xanadu

  • William Randolph Hearst spread so much propaganda over the years he successfully helped make marijuana illegal,, so he is to thank for our country full of miserable alcoholics.. we would have been happy potheads but it was shear greed, he didn't want people to use hemp to make paper because it would effect how much money he made a year cause his investments were tied up in wood paper

  • ITS AWESOME THE BEST ESTATE I'VE EVER SEEN!!

  • Tour 2 better than tour 1. Less people and ask for chuck he is the best tour guide. Also try the night tour real pretty specially on Christmas time!!!

  • @montyhades The night tour sounds fun. I bet it's beautiful during Christmas!

  • it did make him go broke.....it remains unfinished......well that and the Depression broke him......

  • im going to dinsey land

    whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooo yeah baby

  • How much is the appraisel on this castle? The land alone must be worth a fortune.

  • THe inside pool has 24 carrat gold leafing everywhere. Amazes me that this didnt make him go broke!

  • @azulalover97 He didn't spare any expense building this place. It's amazing!

  • @azulalover97 he was hundred millions of dollars in debt

  • Too bad people can't build homes like these anymore!

  • Was just there today ;D

  • i went there its worth the long drive 2 get there

  • WOW im going tomorrow for my skewl the 11 of march its gunna be my first time i can hardly wait :D

  • Have an amazing time!

  • @xXRAWRXx34 ive been its sooooooooo amazinggggggggggguh!11111111

  • @xXRAWRXx34 You might want to start paying attention in "skewl" once in a while.

  • Jeeze..they probobly played Monopoly with REAL money!!!

  • Visited Hearst Castle in 1993, totally amazing. The indoor Roman pool is the most beautiful place, our guide told of Cary Grant and Errol Flynn spenting their time here.

  • yeah i went 2 hearst castle twice i really liked it..

  • Hearst Castle looks absolutely beautiful. One of many examples of the magnificent mansions built by some of America's industrialists. In my travels to California I have had a chance to explore San Francisco and San Diego, but you have given me some new ideas for next time.

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • is it somebodys private home or is it somewhere you can go for holliday ?

  • It was a private home. Today it is open to the public for tours only. Once in a while they auction off a night in the castle, which would be fantastic! They also have special holiday dinners and other fun events.

  • @Janusha it was mr hearst back in the day he sold it to california for a 17 million dollar tax write off his family can go and stay there but you ca only tour it its a badass castle i loved it 24 k gold wallls grounds books worth thousands you should go

  • julia morgan one of the best architect in the history

  • OMGGG i wanna go there one day :D

  • please let me tell you i went their in 2200 and it was fine..it was great but then i went in 2005 and it was sssooo expencive and boring..did not like it...

  • I went there is is beautiful.

  • 1:35 narrator mentions they gathered around for cocktails... weird cause Hearst didn't typically allow much drinking

  • Each of the guests were allowed one cocktail in the Assembly Room before dinner.

  • OMG thanx for showing this i was interested cuz my mom said us and my whole family are going there on sep 12 for the weekend , and i wanted to get an inside look on it

  • Thanks so much for the kind comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and hope you have a super time on Sept. 12! Take care, Veronica

  • i was amazed at this place when i was there and the story of how it was built.

  • Me too! Thanks so much for commenting. Hopefully I can return again in the next year. I want to go to their holiday feast party in the Refectory!

  • bone marrow disgusting

  • I wouldn't touch it either! It's funny what some people consider "delicacies."

  • The indoor Roman Pool is the most magificent pools I've ever seen. I don't think anything can top it!

We took tour #2 and didn't even see half of the castle. It's so high up there! There's also a bedroom that was described as being in like a jewelery box. Everyone, including me, wanted to spend a night in there.

  • Sounds wonderful! I'll have to try that tour next time!

  • we just went there earlier. it's an amazing place. i want to go back again but very expensive $24 each part of the tour. the tour is divided into 4 parts

  • wow i have to go there

  • We went there a few years ago. I remember the guide mention several times during the tour that Hearst loved California, unlike his wife who prefered the east. As we exited thru the kitchen, there were blocks of fake cheese on a table. I said " I know why he loved California. It was the cheese!" The guide said, " I'll do the jokes around here." Btw, nice vid.

  • Good joke! Thanks for sharing your story. That was funny! Glad you enjoyed the video. Veronica

  • I should have been aware though that it didn't make sense to those not from here. Several German tourists just gave me a blank stare. Take care!

  • This is amazing! The Neptune Pool is something out of a dream! :) I can't wait to visit someday...I just love the classical sculpture!

  • I love the Neptune pool! When you're there, you just want to jump right in!

  • I know! :D

  • oh my god that house is huge

  • We are doing a project on silver in Nevada and Hearst's father was an instant miliionare by investing in silver mines.( leaving his fortune to his son.) His son had a great business sense too and look what was left for the world to see. We went years ago when my husband's grandfather sat on a chair in one of the guest homes. The alarm was going off. Then yesterday I meet a man who told me his father does work up there covering the chairs. I laughed.

  • doesnt anybody owns this? doesnt he have a son or sumthin? someone must have inherited this castle!

  • It's now run and owned by the state, however I think a few relatives still have some rights to parts of the property. I met Patty Hearst back in the early 1990s during a celebrity sports invitational at the Ritz Carlton in Hawaii. OJ Simpson was there too. Weird trip!

  • They left it for the state so the world could see the amazing work done. The Hearsts had a vision and made it intos something priceless for everyone to see. Wouldn't it have been great to go there a guest.

  • The castle was given to the State of California in 1957 by Hearst Corp, too much of a drain on the corps money, the Hiltons looked at it as a possible addition to their hotel chain but it was too much off the beaten track.. He had five sons, a wife and Marion Davies, his mistress. He was never divorced from Millicent (Wilson) For many years after the state took over the facility, the family maintained Guesthouse "A" until a bombing took place there by the SLA who kidnapped Patty Hearst in 1974.

  • How i love this place!! Im going again in August!! This time for the evening tour!!

  • Awesome! Let me know how you enjoy the evening tour!

  • I was there 4 days ago. I wanted to see his airplane. They say it's still in the hangar at the bottom of the hill.

  • Wow! I didn't know his airplane was there. Interesting fact. Thanks for sharing!

  • Indoor Roman Pool

  • Love it!

  • I went 5 days ago!! amazing!!

  • Cool! What was your favorite part?

  • Just went there.(7-10-09) AWESOME sight! We did tour 1 and saw a lot but didn't know there were other tours. Will have to do them another time.

  • I'd love to do the night tour. They have a lot of neat programs.

  • This is great ! I want to visit!

  • Hope you can some day. It's an amazing property!

  • I wanna live there!

  • I toured Hearst Castle with my mom and a few others while on vacation in CA for 10 days. It was one of the best parts of the trip!

  • Cool! Where else did you go?

  • We visited many beaches. My fave was Venice Beach. We also went to Universal Studios, which i thought was pretty awesome!

  • xD I went theer on Sunday xD I hated the ride there 4 hours plus trafic! Inside Hearst Castle is creepy and dark....xD Its really high which is cool xD

  • I'm sorry you didn't like it. I see you're 16 years old. That's how old I was when I first visited the castle. When you're a little older you'll begin to appreciate the history and beauty of this magnificent estate. Did you find time to visit the elephant seals nearby? Take care, Veronica

  • i was 10 and i loved it

  • is this far from union city ? CA. has anyone hated going here ?

  • Is this place far from Hollywood?

  • Yes, about 2-3 hours, depending on how fast you drive.

  • This is really a nice place, when I went there there was a little clover shape pond with a ramp and the tour guide told us it was for Hearst's little dog beacuse she kept on falling in!

  • Cute story. Never heard that one!

  • Do you need to purchase tickets before hand or are they usually available the day of. And which tour do you recommend?

  • It's very popular. To be safe, I'd buy ahead of time through their Web site. For first timers, start with the basic Experience tour. Hope you have fun!

  • gosh i saw the house and i was just amazed i wish i was him and da best wuz of course the olympic size swimming pools

  • Those pools are amazing. I'm thinking of returning for one of their special fundraising parties. They sound like a blast!

  • I would love to live there!!

  • Me too!

  • The Hearsts probably would too, but nobody can afford to live like this anymore.

  • if only i were rich.... *sighs*

  • Wouldn't it be nice!

  • oh my gosh!!

i went here for spring break!!

  • Fun!

  • love going there, but i just can't picture the fact that people actually lived there. I guess to beautiful.

  • It is pretty amazing, isn't it?

  • I absolutely love the indoor pool!

  • Me too!

  • I went on Thursday. It was so beautiful!

  • Sounds fun. I'd love to return again soon!

  • me too! it was so pretty!

  • Mmmm....tell me when it' s on the market!

  • Can you imagine living there? That would be amazing! Thanks for commenting! Veronica
