  • weapon of choice flourine canon

  • @TheAnimusik

    nickel

the fluroine combines with th e nickle and creates a coating the protects the rest of the nickle sorrry for errrors :)

  • I was waiting for "Fluorine and flesh". I would be quite interested in seing what hapens when it touches, say, a piece of pig, or a chicken leg.

  • what is the song?

  • You could drop a canister from a plane and make a fluorine bomb!

  • @TheAnimusik its nickle but they do something to it so that its inert to fluroine

  • Texas is looking into this as there prefered method of execution the condemed would have there abdominal cavity injected with fluorine. After that stand back and watch the fat sizzle !

  • @19thSFGA I am a Texan. I believe the death penalty should be replaced with a life sentence in the electric chair....A sub-leathal dose every 5 min for life....

  • I wish I understood the chemistry of this better, it's remarkable how everything seems to spontaneously combust.

  • @SoNDgs The bond between fluorine atoms in a fluorine molecule is extremely weak while the bond between fluorine atoms and other molecules such as oxygen are extremely strong. When bonds are formed, energy is given off. Since only a small amount of energy is needed to break the fluorine-fluorine bonds and a large amount of energy is given off when fluorine bonds to something else, this excess energy is given off as heat (i.e. fire)

  • non mask is terrible than flame

  • Why is molten sulfur red?

  • @werothegreat I don't think it is. What you see is a chemical reaction with fluorine. That's not sulfur in its pure form - it's a chemical compound.

  • @Prstvlkkrtek That's true, but molten sulfur is still red.

  • Imagine a container of fluorine leaking or even exploding...

  • It looks like an electrical arc! Why so reactive?

  • Burning stuff is cool !!

  • @guitan

    purple

  • Isn't the combustion the result of Fluorine reacting with oxygen?

  • I feel bad for you, that sulfur must have smelled really bad. :p

  • @sidewinder4489

Aren't exactly supposed to be smelling it though. If you burn it you get Sulfur Dioxide which is irritating to your lungs. Not fatal. (To plants and small creatures it is)

  • I want more fluorine action.

  • This video is so soothing to watch for some reason, especially on a Sunday afternoon.

  • olha a cara de retardado 1:03 uahsuahsuahsuauhs

  • Yum electronegativity *drools*

  • Last 2 were the best....

  • Looks like Professor Hope was OK about snuffling up all those strange fumes.

  • I love how cotton sort of explodes, and then quite quickly becomes veeeeery black!

The blue smoke of iodine? It was awesome!

  • the music reminds a quite carl sagan's videos :)

  • Reaction with charcoal like electricity spark

  • no need to activation , very crazy and horrible

  • Fluorine should not be allowed in the human body even in parts per billion,

  • @futurehelp : Elemental Fluorine does not exist in your body because it is such a powerful oxidizier that it would burn your skin and flesh. the only form wich is in the body is the fluoride ion, which is inert. Altough fluoride is also toxic, it is essential to alll humans, if you wouldnt have even 1ppb you would die.

  • @futurehelp Elemental and monoElemental all exaist in our only

the ones with the shot half lives are gone

  • The sulpher demo reminds me of Io the moon of Jupiter.

  • during the sulphur reaction is the heat from the reaction melting the sulphur, or is that the sulphur hexafluoride thats dripping down? and also, what if any of the fluorine didnt react and was floating around in the lab, wouldnt that be a bit toxic?

  • Of what material is the stage/platform? It's not reacting to the fluorine at all.

  • @StereoSpace Heat proof mats like that were usually made from Asbestos, I dunno if that's still the case now though I assume it is.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • no way, the iodine actually combusted? that's cool. btw, i heard that it's possible for asbestos to combust with chlorine trifluoride

  • Beautiful

  • Cool to see your using a cool soundtrack! But i nearly fell asleep :)

  • Next up: Liquid fluorine?

  • Can someone tell me what song is playing or what type of music this is?

  • does fluorine react with the air at all? does it react with any gases or just the solids ur testing it on?

  • Beautiful. Thank you for this and all your other videos.

  • I want more fluorine in our water supply! :)

  • i don't know fluorine is such reactive....

    Amazing vid.

  • The sulfuric reaction looks like butter with maple syrup...mmm.....

  • I'd say, after coal, this thing became rather predictable.

The sulfuric reaction looks like butter with maple syrup. :)

  • @SurferRosa79 hi... yes this video is very much an added extra for people who just wanted to see each reaction in detail (as Fluorine is a bit more unusual)... We move through them a bit quicker in the "main" Fluorine video of course.

  • lol at face @ 1:04

  • WOW.. flurine an ionide look SUPER poisonous..

  • @GuyWithWrench Aah, I thought you were just remarking upon the danger of having that raw chemical smoke in the room, to which I was agreeing. No purposeful trolling here, I assure you ;)

  • does flourine burn in air or is it being ignited somehow???

  • @unusedsn : fluorine is a extremely powerful oxidizer and it does not burn - it instantly set things on fire which are able to burn, it doesnt need energy for this because of the oxidizing power. and it does not react with the air.

  • That melted sulfur's face off!

  • @GuyWithWrench wooo Imagine fluorine gas to be rather stable in atmosphere!! That would be awsome. Instead use Oxygen to burn, use Flurine.. By the way, does Fluorine oxdide Oxygen??

  • @skBundy of course! :) search for oxygen difluoride!

  • Did the flourine react with the metal tube it was comming out of ?

  • The sulphur looks like butter

  • Iodine is so gorgeous <3

  • OMG I think I saw Robot Unicorn during the Fluorine Lodine reaction @ 2:40 !!

  • @GuyWithWrench No kidding. Wondering why they didn't perform this in a fume hood.

  • @GuyWithWrench Whew! Fluorine smoke!

  • slowmotion sulfuric = AWESOME

  • This is a great representation of how much art there really is in Chemistry... Its astounding how beautiful so many reactions are when they can be viewed in slow motion!

  • Fluorine + Iodine = Purple Haze.

Jimi Hendrix would be so proud.

  • Cool

  • damn that fluorine is reactive stuff, just a whiff and you get smoke and flames....

  • Fluorine & mucosæ is perhaps not so much fun.

    Just ask Moissan, et alia.

  • Fluorine and sulfur was the best

  • tres bien!

  • i like fluorine and sulfur

  • so basically by just blowing only fluorine to iron wool will result in flames?

  • Good video. I noticed that this is done in an open lab. Does the excess fluorine react with the air before it can get to the lungs? If so what compound does it form?

  • I love the high speed shots, Nice job!

  • Badass!!!!!!!

  • That purple smoke is flourine tri iodide right?

  • @YamiPoyo I dont think so, as they both only form single bonds.

  • Farting this would be soooo fun!

    like, stupid chair, have this!

  • 1:04

    THAT FACE

  • element of the year, all years.

  • What song is this or what type of music is it..?

  • Comment removed

  • Love the reaction with Iodine, Looks sooooo pretty :)

  • I was wondering, would it be practical or more over possible to make an industrial 'Fluorine Cutter' like that water jet cutter (not sure if thats what its called) you guys once showed.

  • @GabrielKnightz probly not seeing how poisonous flourine is

  • i really wish i was omniscient . . . i could know everyhting about the chemistry thats going on in this video. it would be as easy as following a baseball game, but i would be looking at billions of atoms and molecules interacting and such. i really like this kind of stuff and i reallly really( a bunch more reallys) like the idea of the human race some day pwning knowledge like we only imagine a god could . . .

  • This is a beautiful video. I agree with everyone here that the Iodine reaction was the most beautiful. The plumes of smoke were incredible. And the music that went along with it was perfect.

  • This video is amazing. The high speed of the iodine reaction has some amazing smoke features. Chemistry is so cool, too bad I have only been able to study it on my own time.

  • Fluorine and Ove-Gloved hand.

  • i would have liked to have seen hydrated lime or whatever lime was used for limelights. That maybe would have been brighter than the sulphur

  • Never mind cumbersome flamethrowers.... just need a gun and a tank of Flourine, no visible flame...just gas that ignites almost anything it touches...

  • @BenjaminFranklin2u Including the air around the output nozzle...

never mind the HF... that shit is nasty...

    it'd be a bad idea.

  • very cool! i like the fluorine and iodine the most

  • Great videos. What would happen with Fluorine and water?

You did sodium (and other similar metals) and water.

  • This is really rare stuff, considering you're dealing with fluorine. But what is most fascinating here, to me, is the different shape and colour of the blaze given off by the various elements, from which one could even derive some chemical and physical properties.

  • Awesome video!

  • I want to see fluorine react with caesium or fancium. The resulting reaction would be very fast and the enthalpy (dH) would be high.

Correct me if I´m wrong! (Grammar too)

  • @sirhonkalot Francium is very very unstable, radioactive and being a synthetic element with not many uses, i doubt that reaction will ever be witnessed.

  • *** Francium does occur naturally but is the second rarest naturally occurring element after astatine.

  • @FUGGINGMAD Ok I knew that fancium is radioactive but I didn't know that it´s half-life only is 21.8 minutes maximum. Hmmm another thing on my list of things I´ll do when I get much to rich.

  • @noobenstein so from your comments, I detect you are a minority, and an angry bitch who spits rather than swallows... :-)

  • @noobenstein Nothing is done by mistake, which is why there is a conspiracy. Somebody is DELIBERATELY doing things. If you join up the dots, you can link the same people to all sorts of organisations and other individuals that have influence in some pretty weird secret societies, that almost openly want to rid the world of 2 thirds of its population.

  • flourine and iodine was beautiful!

  • Astonishing!

  • What a superb collection of b-roll footage! I do think that these new Fluorine videos are probably my favorite of the series so far!

  • Purple haze :)

  • love the purple that the iodine gives off .

  • I'm surprised this wasn't done in a fume hood!

  • @skadogg22 Yeah... I had the same thought...

  • @skadogg22 Agreed, i already posted a comment about it...im shocked actually.

  • What would happen if you shot that fluorine tube up your nose?

  • @norxcontacts You would be a little bit dead me thinks.

  • @norxcontacts I dunno... But now you mention it, I REALLY wanna find out!

  • What about the reaction with water or ice?

  • @Eumolpo89 Fluorine reacts with water to form hydrofluoric acid, which is famous for being able to eat through glass.

  • @Envergure can you see the ice burning?

  • @Eumolpo89 I'm not sure, but I doubt it. Nothing should ionize in that reaction for long enough to produce a flame.

  • @Envergure And we drink this? HAHAHA

  • @TheNemestrinus Water fluoridation doesn't involve fluorine gas.

  • The iodine one is nice.

  • Amazing!

I want a tank of fluorine now...

  • you should do fluorine and gun cotton

  • the government puts floride in our water

  • @davedumas0 There is also sodium and potassium in your water too although in minute quantities, and they react violently as alkali metals!

  • @TurboDally im not shure but i think there is all types of acids and flouride also

  • Comment removed

  • @davedumas0 dude evrything has poisin in it we are helpless

  • @davedumas0 fluoride is put into water so u dont get 'texas teeth'. I think some countries put it in salt instead. It does have a downside tho... it causes untold agitation in the conspiracy-chicken coop.

  • @jeebersjumpincryst It is unethical to force medication upon people without their consent. I don't care if it helps my teeth. I am more than capable of cleaning them myself. Secondly, Sodium Fluoride has been PROVEN to cause all sorts of health problems. It is a poison, and an accumalative one at that. Try eating a gram of the stuff, and you'll get organ failure.

  • @TheNemestrinus Well... I dont know where to start with all of that. Im sorry u feel that way though. You could avoid being fluoridated by collecting rainwater, and also maybe cut down from eating a gram of it at a time...

  • @jeebersjumpincryst um look at most peoples teeth it looks like its NOT working

  • @davedumas0 lol - good comment. They were a LOT worse without fluoride though. Only british teeth seem to be immune to fluoridation... :-)

  • Why isn't the flourine reacting with the platform the samples are on and clamp that is supporting the platform? The clamp may be safe as there is a chance it is made of nickel or nickel coated but the platform is obviously not nickel.

  • It'd be cool if you guys would explain what is going on with the electrons in your videos. I mean, they're still really cool and all, but it'd be really nice to know what bonds are being broken and formed.

  • fluorine anf pork would give you bbq pork?

  • Was that smoke purple, with the iodine?

  • I love the Lodine reaction.

  • As a chemist myself, i have to ask one question. Why are these reactions not done under a fume-hood? =/

  • @18120polls It's their lab, let them do the reaction how they want.

  • @75SilentWarrior yeh sure, let them poison themselves lol.

  • @75SilentWarrior Well, if they want to breath in fluorine gas and have some chemistry happen in their lungs....more power to them!

  • @18120polls They're probably better chemists then you so I think they know what their doing.

  • @BlueBajs Even the best chemists are not immune to accidents mate.

  • Iodine made a very nice coloured smoke. 8)

  • Great Videos!!!

  • Flourine and pork! Flourine and pork!

  • What temperatures do those reactions take place at, roughly?

  • @Zaddtheman Room temperature? lol.

  • @EMCHost Mmkay, smartass, when have you seen room-temperature fire?

  • @EMCHost Not what he meant but works for me.

  • @Zaddtheman Hot enough to basically melt steel.

  • Fluorine breathing metal monsters - THEY CAME FROM OUTER SPACE....

  • Wow!

  • 1 word: nice

  • NICE!

  • Nasty stuff!
