I think this was a set up that probably claimed some innocent life. That red car wouldn't hae just sat there, so I hope whoever set this up can live with innocent lives on their conscience. Assholes.
I'm a civil engineer. Please all remember your hazards lights and never exit the vehicle unless the roadway is absolutely clear of traffic. Also, a car can take a lot of damage and still function. Even with airbag deployment, you still may be able to drive your vehicle out of traffic. Don't worry if you damage your vehicle more, because insurance will cover it. I was in a pileup that sheared the back of my vehicle off, and my front-wheel drive car was still able to drag my car out of lanes.
@joemama365 Also, if you're in a manual gearbox car and your engine won't start, you can use the starter motor and 1st gear to get your car off the road.

If your car breaks down on the middle of the highway and you cannot get it to move, no matter what the cause then turn on the hazards, get everyone out of the car and get them behind the safety rails. Preferably sitting down, or laying down depending their condition.
Then immediately call 911 / 112 (US / Europe) and then try to warn oncoming traffic with (light) signals.
People often go into shock after having an accident like that.
My gf almost went catatonic last night when (, let me tell u first that it's freezing like hell here atm.. and everything is iced over) a car with a trailer came sliding towards her after losing control at 50mph...
I had to take the wheel from her and steer us out of harms way.
You can be tough all you want but fear can truly paralyze you.
ok. What I'm trying to figure out is... Why is there someone standing by the freeway filming this in the first place? Did he know there was gonna be a accident waiting to happen? Maybe the camara guy had something to do with this pile up. How many people died here?

As soon as their is any problem on a highway, drivers should turn on their emergency lights to alert the drivers coming from behind.
