Came on the car in 1986. It is the "Grabber" tail and endcaps. There are three different ones, the four door has no lip, the grabber the tallest. There is an intermediate lip.
hey awesome job with the maverick!!.. i have a 1970 maverick and wasm wondering were you bought the back fin, i been looking for one, if you can please reply that will be great, thank you.
@Navajas440 No, that was added MANY years back and has gone through some changes over the years. It's all "old'school" meaning lo-buck engineering. Spindles were swapped L/R and rack mounted......Bump steer is crazy.
Excellent job on the car. Believe it or not, my earliest memory as a child was REFUSING to get out of the back seat of my Dad's 69 1/2 Maverick Grabber after he traded it in at the local Ford dealership for a '71 Torino. It took both him and my mother to drag me out of there kicking and screaming :)
I was a gearhead from the start and will be until the day I die!!
@capriracer351 I've got a similar story. Mom had a 1967 Falcon SportsCoupe with a 289 in Britney Blue she bought new and I wanted that car. 'Bout to turn 16 and get my license and the Falcon was sold to someone when I got home from high school one day and was replaced with a VW Bug. Devastating, just devastated - I was. I'll never get over that.
old friend of mine had one wth 427 side oiler, ran it on street ran high tens when he didn't break something,he just didn't have much luck keeping bearings, rockers, pushrods in the motor.nice car though
Big engine in a really little car...now THIS is what musclecars were supposed to be all about until they got fucking bloated as hell from the late 60's onward.
Bob Raced The car aT Fremont Late 70s early 80s with a 302 in it and won a ton with it , He Was a Line technician At the Lincoln mercury dealor on Capitol Expressway in San jose, The Car was White back then.wish i could be more helpful.
Nice Maverick!!! I'm working on restoring my dad's 1967 Fastback he's owned since 1976. I have a C6ME-A block that I think is a 428, I need to take off the oil pan and make sure.
nice! i've always liked the look of these mavericks and comets..glad to see you got the car back after all that time. What motor will be going into it? and I'd say keep it looking like it did in the 80s-90s with those centerlines..it looked good!
There is not enough room between the stock Maverick shock towers for a big block. They have to be "shaved", moved outward or removed entirely. This car actual ran a 460 when it was "on loan" for awhile. This one might be put up for sale for the the right price.
It is actually stiffer than a Mustang as everything is now welded up front, not just tacked welded along with a shorter wheelbase. It's had a Big Block (377 FE, 428, 460) in it since 1980 or so.
This car was done back in early 80's. The shock towers were moved 2" outwards on each side. One of two ways to keep the shock towers, the other is to notch the tops out while keeping the lower mounting point (not as much clearance). Tower to tower is actually wider now than on a Mustang.

Who is Bob Sherwood and when would he have owned it? We can trace this car back prior to 1986 in CA.

I have saw a few mavericks with an FE series engine... do you have to modify the shock towers? If so, is their a website that I can go to to see how?
