The Irish were forced as slaves or prisoners of war to come to the new country by the English but they did not do so willingly and that's why many worked on the underground rail road. Her grandmother lived in a time when more whites owned businesses or were the bosses etc. so Oprah was just remarking how if she was still alive she would be amazed at how different things are.
