Then they released blue, and the girl was named Blue after it. Because the script for blue was used outside of Japan, the games were Red and Blue, so the protagonist and rival were named after the localizations and Green became the girl.

now in the english manga Green is the girl and Blue is the rival

since pkmn Red & Green were the first pkmn games in japan, Red was the protagonist and your rival could be set as green

but there was no green version for the western so to not make any confusions they called the rival blue

To clear this up, this girl's name is Blue in Japan, and Green in America. Gary's videogame and manga counterpart(because NO, the character in the games and manga are NOT the same Gary from the Anime, just like how Red is not really Ash. Ash and Gary are BASED OFF Red and Green) is Green in Japan and Blue in America. The names were switched because it was thought that since Green('Gary') is Red('Ash')'s rival, his name should be the opposite of Red, which is considered Blue. So they changed it.

Now, in Pokemon Adventures, the girl's name is (J)Blue/(W)Green, in the videogames it's Leaf.
