  • she has a classic sound like a lot of the singers from the 1930's if you listen to them it's just nice she doesn't sound like a typical opera singer her voice is incredibly light and agile I wonder if she is a sfogato soprano because her range is so different similar to lily pons and lily pons was a sfogato soprano

  • All this talk about her being or not being a skilled singer is pointless based on the fact that she is obviously performing regularly at very respected venues all around the world and has been for several years.....unskilled persons don't get longevity in opera. I may have a personal opinion on what I think is good but it is often different from my professional opinion. Nearly all of you who have disliked obviously don't have a real professional opinion regardless of you're personal one.

  • I think rather it is her critics here that are untrained as listeners. I find her expressive style refreshing. It is my belief that her detractors put out unfavorable commentary as a reaction to their fear that her talents are equal or greater than their own personal established favorites.

  • I can't explain why but I find her scary ! She has a great voice, though.

  • @MrStephane313 sometimes she has the expression of a psycopath when she sings, maybe that's the reason?

  • i like her, but she seems to lack the Dessay's 'light'. when i heard she siging, sounds kind of 'heavy' as if her voice wouldnt fit it. Besides, i wonder why all singers (coloraturas sopranos) also seem to avoid doing (and sustaining) top high notes, instead they would just do a quick ornamentation as if they couldnt mantain it for much time, of course its the opposite of Dessay, who always sustain extratosferic high notes, be it in this aria or other ones.

  • Although I think Dessay's take is the definitive version, Miklosa's rendition is beautiful. She has a wonderful voice.

  • she is magic

  • Que hermosura de voz de esta soprano Hungara, me encanto conocerla, digo, en video vdd jejeje xD

  • She has a WONDERFUL voice and I like her interpretation of this song. However I've 3 things to say : I think she should work on her french accent. She pronounce "eu" every "e" at the final part of the words. Next, (and this is a very personal opinion) I think she uses too much vibrato. And to finish I'll say that she could learn about the sense of the lyrics... she's smiling all the time but the story is not particularly happy. Well, good, but I've seen better. My favorite one is Natalie Dessay

  • My God, I love her so much! Erika's absolutely incredible!!

  • I like Her so much..

  • I like her. However, I would really like to hear actual PERFORM an entire role that wasn't The Queen of The Night.

  • wow, just wow

  • The more I see and hear her, the more I love her. I can't recall her name ever being mentioned here in Australia - but hopefully she may come visit one day - I'll be sure to attend any performance she gives.

  • Es una de las voces más hermosas de soprano que haya oído en los últimos años, y la emplea muy bien. Es un placer total escucharla.

  • Tout simplement excellent

  • This looks really fucking hard.

  • i think she is great and her clear "bell voice" sounds nice for this aria. maybe not so impresive and expressive coloratura frases as callas or dessay but yet very clear and strong. and nice timbre !! i think her timbre is perfect for the aria.

and gosh , dont be so negative and critic with such diffucult pieces like this!!!

  • I agree Naliah86. This is a really hard piece. That entrance is hard.. really, really hard. I also like how light and agile her voice is without losing any of its magnificence. Most coloratura sopranos are a bit heavy, but she is not. Maybe she won't be singing Brünnhilde any time soon, but she can definitely rock Lakmé.

  • she sings it even better then Callas!

  • we can hate her, we can love her, the fact is fact, she sings in the metropolitan, in paris garnier or in munich... i do not think she would be able to sing with a bad voice and crazy mimics.. kisses

  • Some of these negative comments are tiresome. Lady Erika is an asset to the world of opera

  • I don't get why so many people seem to hate her. I really think she has an incredible voice. She has such a wide range, and he notes are always spot on. Sure, she smiles. If you hate it so much then don't watch the video, minimize it or something. I really think she's an incredible opera singer.

  • I hate it that we can't see her in more different productions. She's a fabulous QOTN but I wish I could see her perform other roles

  • i definitely agree!!! :)

  • @ScientiaVeritasEtLux la voix est bien belle

  • she is the best...

  • Erika Isten Királynő !!!

  • Egyszerűen tökéletes!Kedvenc magyar operaénekesnőm,példaképemnek tekintem.

  • I think Erika Miklosa and Diana Damrau are on the top when it comes to opera today

  • dont forget Ms. Dessay!

  • @farr0222 absolutely!! i always think of natalie when i think of this aria!

  • She is always smiling. Always. Why. I don't know. She smiles during Der Holle Rache...everything. It is freaky.

  • I was under the impression that this aria is about a young girl being forced to lure her lover out of hiding. Why the hell is she smiling about that?

  • Sukisha76, this is about a girl that is born out of outcasts is India that falls in love with the God Brahma. It is a really sweet song.

  • What a beautiful voice! She makes it sound so easy.... I wish she would hold out the final note just a bit longer because she does it so well!

It sucks that some people obviously get a thrill by being a harsh critic, when they aren't the one putting themself out there.

  • The beging reminds me of sleeping beauty(disney where Rose is singing) Her high notes are BEAUTIFUL! She's really beautifull also. :)

  • could some one tell me what that high not is around 1.06 - 1.07 please?

  • note*

  • it's a E

  • 2:00-2:02 isn't she FLAT??? I'm just asking...

  • hey guys I don't want to spoil this romantic moments... but hey she's got some really nice BOOBS!!! She's hot!

  • Maybe, but, in respect, I'm more fascinated by her eyes.....

  • beautiful voice, it is a privilege to hear it.

  • oh and, i love the "shes highly untrained " comment, this woman is a prodigy, she's been training since she was 16 at a very prestigious music school, she was the youngest person to ever be hired by the hungarian state opera and she's been requested by all the important opera house of the world. She's coming to the met in ny this fall, and i look foward to seeing her....but of course she's highly untrained...lmao ; ]

  • this is an amazing voice, i absolutely love erika and she sounds sublime live. And of course she is good at the high notes, she's a coloratura soprano!

  • This is such a sad, sick and sorry World that when the truly beautiful is experienced, it seems to confuse people. I am in awe of this beautiful performance and Erika's angelic voice. Too many YouTubers comment to show how 'clever' they are. This performance is beautiful; really, listen to it.

  • Anyone who insults this girl's voice or singing majesty can only be jealous! I mean.......... really?

  • Singing that high really isn't for the 'pleasure' factor. It's mainly to show off your voice and amaze the audience with your capabilities. She has a rare and incredible voice. Those high notes you hear will NEVER sound pretty. So just deal with it. She has a lovely tone and vibrato. I really love her voice, personally. Stop giving her a hard time, I don't see or hear you hitting those high notes. You don't know how difficult it can be until you try. Meanwhile, respect her art.

  • I've seen heavy artillery with more subtlety than this chick. Lovely voice; hideously untrained.

  • Eh, i have to disagree. Simply because of her expressions. She looks like she enjoys every moment of her performance. And she's damn hot! And I'm sure that her 'lack of subtlety' is just her style.

  • well, she is a really good opera singer.....but I can't say she is as much as a legend like dessay or sumi jo in this aria....I really like the points in which she sung slowly and without vibratos but the last notes was just.....similar to what a dieing mouse would sound like

  • De qué color son sus ojos? Hay veces en que se le ven color morado O.o

  • This is so Petty

  • lol - "i don't get the idea of 'forced vibrato' -a coloratura ornaments are meant to sound (if one is not Sutherland) unnatural - that is the nature of them. Miklosa has no vibrato(in a sense of undesirable oscillations on the note) which is, by the way, a great thing for a singer not to have, she is not Sutherland or Moffo, or ... but is a real singer, by far better than some media made 'stars' (by the way 'vibrato' is Natalie's and Sumi's domain)

re 'strained jaw'- huh-lol-no space for comment

  • she's the only opera singer who i like to watch.

  • she's gorgeous.

  • Nicely done!

  • It is stupid to say that Lakmé is forced by his father to sing this aria, and that this interpretation is not correct, because here opera is not given in full, it is only a short excerpt. Your critic is valid, if the opera was fully represented.

  • But the aria represents a character, whether or not it's being presented in a full production. By that argument, someone singing a scene from Wagner or Werther could also smile and flirt their way through it, even it if that interpretation were antithetcal to the character or opera.

  • She was an athlet in Hungary, but now she is the Queen of the Night in Met/one of the bests/

  • she's SOUBRETTE stretching her voice to it's limits!!! it sounds raspy, rhe vocal chords in total tension to produce the high tones..she should be doing the lyric coloratura, not the coloratura parts. Now that's just what I think...she's afterall hired to sing Queen of the Night..and I do not know SHIT! LOL

  • i agree. her jaw looks tense, too.

  • Milosa & miracolosa

  • i never heard of her till i browse all videos about her... she's very nice and great voice!!

  • Is she lip synching?

  • It sure looks like it, but I'm not sure

  • Not bad. I'm still not big on her vibrato, and her coloratura's only okay (imo! don't bash me), but she did pretty well. Really only her facial expressions and the vibrato put me off too badly, and even her vibrato wasn't that bad in this video. Last note was...well it was there right? :p

  • hmm i agree with you, do not like her vibrato. She kind of sounds a little like Mado robin. Also, her trills are a bit sloppy.

  • Not bad???? only that???? Have you any idea how many years you have to study for singing in this level??? How arrogant in the ignorance!!! I like her brivato, and the last note was perfectly done, I swer (please escuse my horrible english)

  • I did say "imo" (which means IN MY OPINION). It is an opinion. I personally would not listen to her by choice. That's all I'm saying. I've said many times that both her and Damrau have incredible instruments...but they just are not for ME. That's it. It's just an opinion. I'm not arrogant or ignorant.

  • Im so sorry (I knew my eglish was a problem!!!) I didn't know what "imo" was. Evidently I was the ignorant!!!:-)

  • THANK YOU!!!!! : D Someone who I agree with!!!!!

  • Yeah...you're right...it makes her voice sound a bit chirpy. I'm not crazy about it. I think it may be by-product of French coloratura technique. Mesple and Robin have that kinda sound, and so do some of the sopranos I've heard educated in French technique. Oddly, however, I LOVE Mady Mesple.

  • I do too! I can't stand a lot of the twittery French sopranos, but Mesple is awesome.

  • It's true, when ANYONE gets up that high it starts to sound chirpy and birdlike. I happen to like it! lol! But it really all depends on the listener's ear.

    : )

  • actually her high notes are really soft, which makes them more likeable than others' to my ears

  • Same here. I've heard some others sing this song and they squeak out those high notes but she really has a knack for high notes!

  • I have a voice designed for silent movies so what do I know, but I think personally she has a lovely warm depth to her singing, which I enjoy.

She reminds me of somebody else from when I was very young (60's) but I can't think who.
