  • A beautiful design, I wish I could own one. Thumbs up for the random cat at the end!

  • thank you for the excellent descriptions

  • Nice! Mateba needs to come out with a 8 round version of the 2006m..

  • too bad they stopped making these in 2005. they are really pretty sweet firearms. very unusual and way cooler than the standard "black glock" look of so many semi-auto pistols.

  • can you get an AR70 in Italy?

  • @ctrlaltWOOT : It would be my paradise... One day, maybe...

  • @ctrlaltWOOT : in Italy you are allowed to own firearms whit a licence. Weapons have to be registered. For carrying them you need a special licence which is very difficult to obtain: only if you are, for example, a jeweller you'll get it. Unloaded transport (in a bag or box) is allowed.

  • this is like a desert eagle and a colt revolver

  • I would love to own one in a .44

  • TRIGUN

  • You greedy person, there's only a few of these guns out there and here you are deciding to own two of them.

  • @Zeanu ... and I'm loking for the third: the Mateba MTR8! Sooner or later, also this first model will be mine.

  • @sil992 Nnnooo! Well I can't blame you - they are quite futuristic and a definite collector's item. I want to own one too y'know, so don't go buy them all! =)

  • Blade Runner

  • Is the barrel of the 2006M compatible withe Unica 6?

  • @TurnAGundam : No. The barrels are similar but not compatible. Ciao.

  • @sil992 What a shame, I was hoping to make a Mateba like the one on "GITS: SAC". Oh well, thanks anyways. XD X3

  • I love that unica 6.... beautiful gun. Thanks for sharing.

  • the cat rules

  • Funny cat....

  • That short barrel looks pretty useless with such a big frame / grip.

  • @lexmark136: Correct: big grip + 2" barrel doesn't make sense. For the 2006M I've got also a small grip, which can be installed in combination with the 2" barrel, so that the revolver is very easy and comfortable to carry. In that configuration it´s smaller than a standard 2" barrel revolver.

  • Nice video! Thank you for showing how the exceptional mechanism of the Mateba 6 Unica works.

  • I'd love to get my hands on a 2006M but I don't think they ever officially came to North America. Thank you for sharing!

  • This reminds me of the gun used in "Blade Runner"

  • @kirk85kirk They are used in the anime "Ghost In The Shell" by the character Togusa. He favors them over standard 9mm police issue.

  • @fortehlulz9999 yeah, up until now I thought it was a fictional firearm. Masamune Shirow is quite the gun nut though. Awesome revolvers, thanks for sharing.

  • amazing weapon i want one of these

  • Care to tell me how much those cost???

  • @MurakumoElite: I've bought both directly in the factory, the 6unica Atutorevolver in 1998 for the equivalent of 1.400 usa Dollars and the 2006M in 1990 for 800. In 1995 I bought the additional 2" and 4" barrels for 150 Dollars. At the time they were considered very expensive revolvers.

  • @sil992 They still are considered expensive, but very nice revolvers.

  • Woa cool!

    never seen one of those!!!

  • Awesome video!

All'epoca abitavo a Pavia, vicino alla fabbrica Ma.Te.Ba. Avevo conosciuto il proprietario, il Sig. Emilio Ghisoni, ed avevamo allacciato buoni rapporti.

  • @sil992 ok grazie. Un giorno ci passerò anch'io XD

  • Your English is very good man!!

What are the gun laws like in Italy? You can own any type of gun?

  • @suckaniggasdick : Thanks for the compliment, but my italian accent...

Full auto are not allowed and every weapon has to be registered. You can own 6 guns/rifles catalogued as "sport weapons" and 3 catalogued as "common". ones. There are no limits for hunting rifles. If you want to own more, you have to get a collector licence.

  • "very quick and very simple, it just takes 10 minutes of twisting"

  • When I talk to my friends about how I'm saving up for one of these, they ask, "So did you learn about them from Ghost In A Shell?"

I didn't learn about matebas from Ghost In A Shell. I learned about Ghost In A Shell from my research about matebas.

  • @animal0mother Talk about irony, I learned about Mateba's from "Ghost in the Shell". LOL XD X3

  • where on earth did you get these guns? their so awesome!

  • these are very neat

  • Mateba is the Ferrari of revolvers:)

  • Cool revolvers, especially the Model 6 Unica. It looks great, unlike other Emilio Ghisoni's designs, that are cool guns, but look pretty wierd, and wa truly revolutionary. Pity they are no longer produced

  • I'm looking for a unica 6 hunter in 454 casull. do you know if i could get when in the US ? and if so where at ?

  • How do these guns work? Can someone give me a detailed explanation?

  • I am a huge fan of these revolvers and I am looking to buy one but they are VERY RARE and no offense but I would have safety checked the revolver the first time when you cocked it back with your hand in front of the barrel! but yeah good video and I love mateba revolvers.

  • @jsu06 I've checked before: I put safety slugs in the cylinder. Have you seen the Rhino, made by Chiappa Firearms? It can be considere a Mateba, because it was designed by Mr. Ghisoni (his last project).

    Ciao

  • @sil992 when you put the 2 inch barrel on it looked more like the Rhino. Interesting guns. Thanks for sharing.

  • are you italian?

  • @bountyonmyhead Yes, I'm Italian.

  • Are there any advantages of the auto-revolver over the traditional revolver?

  • @Demagol8828 The advantages are mainly the following: you shoot always in single action, so the cycle is very, very fast; the barrel is allined with the lower chamber of the cylinder, so Mateba revolvers don't "jump" as traditional revolvers.

Nanna sul (nel) lettone, i migliori croccantini, assistenza sanitaria periodica garantita, trattamento antiparassitario regolare, coccole, giochi e protected by Mateba 357 mag!

  • nice cat

    nice gun too

  • So, the patent expired on these right? That means you can legally make them yourself?

  • Single action is where you pull the hammer back. Double action is where you have to pull the triger back to work the hammer.

  • hahaha! I dont think your cat quite shares your passion for the 2006M :)

  • you switcht double and single action.

  • will you be demonstrating the 6 inch barrel and how to change the grips on the 2006M?

  • @nasanasa3 I'm thinking about publishing another video with the revolvers in action: a test with the 3 different barrels and some more details. Ciao

  • @sil992 awesome! thanks

  • cats <3 guns ;)

  • At around 1:40 you mixed up the double action with the single action, and vice versa

  • Aww, da kitty likes da pussy pistol (by which I mean short barrel, not weak gun).

  • THOSE have got to be the most peculiar revolver I have ever seen, must have hurt your wallet I'd imagine

  • that 2006M is REALLY hard to find...

  • I like your cat!!!

  • You've got single action and double action confused;

Double action = trigger cocks and releases hammer

Single action = trigger just releases hammer

Still, very nice! I've been wanting to see a video of these revolvers for ages

  • Is it true that you are not allowed to use a gun for self-defense in Italy?

Say someone enters your house and wants to rob you... I'm told that you cannot shoot at the robber unless you get a permission from the judge to use a gun for self-defence.

Is it also true that 9mm is banned in Italy for people to own because it's a "military" round? Are all military calibers banned for civilian use?

  • The italian law became less restrictive in 2006: today you can use firearms for defend your life and goods against an imminent violent attack, situation which has to be demostrated. Shooting a fleeing robber in the back will be considered homicide.

Full auto guns are banned, as 9x19 (9 Luger) and 7,62 Nato calibers (= military rounds). So we have the civil versions of this ammo: 9x21 mm and 308 Win.

  • @sil992 Thanks for the info! I guess it's not as bad as UK law (which banned all guns) but it's still pretty draconian.

Judging from the videos of mafia killing on youtube and TV, these gun bans have done nothing to prevent these murders... since criminals don't care about laws anyway!

  • In Italy it's not so dramatic as in UK, where there's no chance to own legally a gun. As you wrote, if all the guns are banned by the government, only criminals will be armed. This seems to be hard to be understood by politicians.

  • @sil992 I don't think they have any trouble understanding it. They're control freaks and view themselves as the Only Ones.

They're the Anointed Ones, and we're the peons meant to be disarmed. It empowers the thugs, leaves us defenseless, and increases our dependence on government.

Some are more equal than others.

  • @sil992 The politicians understand it well. Look at Hitler. Or any democratic big city in the U.S.lol

  • probably because of something called weapon smuggling

  • Are legal owned weapons smuggled in UK? How is it possible? Usually smugglers are criminals and their firearms come from the black market, not honest citizens who have to register every weapon they own...

  • @sil992 because the uk has their gun rights confused...>.> if you smuggle guns into the uk Id consider you a honest citizen... Hitler was the first one to take away gun rights... now who the fucking hell thinks its a good idea for any country to take away the rights of the citizens to own firearms?

  • @vampire847 Fucking A, man!!! Now if only the fucks on Capitol Hill would get it through their fat, fucking heads! >:(

  • @TurnAGundam lol... thats the thing... government claims its making us safer when really they are doing what every politician does and just gaining more power for themselves...

  • @vampire847 Now if only the American people would remember the 14th Amendment, 'cause there's no way the peaceful path to freedom and liberty is working well enough. >:(

  • @supermaucat Yeah, unfortunately the Blairite knee jerk reaction to the Dunblane Massacre saw almost all handguns banned here in the UK (although black powder weapons are still legal). Although not all private firearms ownership here is illegal.

  • @SentinelConvergence I'm willing to slap a tenner down that after that Derrick Bird chap rampaged with his legally owned firearms, our ban happy UK government will put a complete ban on private firearms ownership at some point. Whereas somewhere like the US, where they have the RIGHT idea, he would have been mown down by a law abiding citizen before he could do anymore damage. When will our goverment learn? *sigh*

  • @Ali3nat0r I suspect you may have a point my friend. Sadly we'll never know if a law abiding citizen would have been able to stop Bird's rampage with their own firearm(s).

  • It sounds like you have the terms for single action and double action reversed.

Double action = trigger pull cocks the hammer then drops the hammer

Single action = trigger pull drops the hammer only

    anyway sweet Matebas

  • Yes, I reversed the terms. I'd like to correct the mistake by editing a new video, including shooting tests. But I don't know if I can simply substitute this video with the new one without loosing all the added comments. Do you know if it's possible?

  • I don't think you can but you can include annotations, those little pop up bubbles, to add your correction in with text

  • shelley is not very gun-pro. :)

  • You're right! She is more interested in her food.

  • Alla faccia dell'inglese maccheronico...

  • Vabbè, mi hanno paragonato a Borat...

    E' così orribile? Accento? Grammatica?

  • How is he using both hands and holding the camera...? :D

  • My wife helped me.

    Ciao

  • awesome guns. just remember, kitty's approval is NOT optional with that kind of things ;)

  • Shelley has to give her approval for everithing we do... :)

  • what magnum rounds do these firearms fire?

  • @ChromeGhost0219 commonly .357 mg

  • @dartho19 thanks

  • Also 41, 44 and 454.

    Ciao

  • How much is the 6 unica home protection version?

  • @negativezone13 about 950 € with 15" barrel

  • I misread "Gun laws are not so repressive as in UK" sorry, yes you are right, though the european union is talking about banning handguns too.

  • nice pussicato

  • Shelley is happy for your appreciation!

    Ciao

  • Shelley is a gorgeous cat! Your english is very good too! Ask how many Brits speak fluent italian?About 1 in 1000 maybe less.

  • lucky man,how strict are italian gun laws?I see alot of italians firing full auto rifles/MG's on youtube.

  • Gun laws are not so repressive as in UK. In Italy you are allowed to keep certain type of firearms and in certain number. They have to be registered. Full autos are not allowed. Maybe you have seen military soldiers.

    Ciao

  • I think you need to read up about them, and about the violent crime reduction Act 2006,people who dont belong to a "Skirmishing club" cant even buy a Black plastic toy gun, they are "illegal"!!!! utterly ridiculous, air guns can no longer be bought mail order, now I cant see how that can reduce children from getting them as you have to be 18 to have a debit.credit card to buy them!!

  • it's armietiro, an italian gun magazine!!paeple in italy can buy onnly semiautomatic guns.

  • Your English sounds funny ;-)

Double action is the movement of the hammer

WITHOUT cocking it first. When u pull the trigger it cocks itself and snaps forward.

When u shoot in single action u have to cock the gun each time beore shooting.

(Double Action: Hammer is cocked AND released by pulling the trigger)

(Single Action: Hammer is cocked by Hand and released by pulling the trigger)

    Ciao

  • So envious...

  • If you have the opportunity to come to Italy, you are invited for a test.

  • @sil992

Oh my goodness that would be fantastic! Insanely fantastic! I hope the offer still stands in a year or so! I really do LOVE these guns, especially the Unica.

Have you seen the Chiappa Rhino? I also adore it's styling. It was designed by the same guy, so...

  • Wow, excellent video here! I really learned alot about the Mateba, that's a really unusual gun! Hold on to those guns, they're real collectors' items!

  • The european union is making noises about "Banning" (taking away from responsible citizens) handguns now I hear,so he'll lose them like we did in Britain and get nothing for them,as in Britain, the police know where every legal firearm is as they are all registered.,

  • This is why registration has to be fought. Registration and licensing never last--they're the last steps before confiscation.

Rights should not require government permission, applications, taxes, fees, and tracking. Throw the parasite control freaks out of office and get your rights back.

  • @bobbytimberlake Unfortunately, once they have taken your rights there is no getting them back, they will cite all sort of crap as to why they cant, their favourite being increased violence and crime, which we all KNOW is a LIE,LESS crime would happen as the crims wont risk going against and armed opponent.I like the Swiss where 98.9% of households have a machinegun/autorifle/pistol BY LAW,as they have a militia army.

  • As you wrote, if government makes guns illegal, only outlaws will be armed.

  • down in Brazil it is like that, you can't own any guns and if you have a hunting rifle it is kept at a sheriff office. gangs have AK and grenades, also a few armored cars. it is very very dangerous in Rio

  • It's sad to hear that the situation is so repressive! The government should be scared by the gangs, not by honest citizens owning legally firearms.

  • @sil992 i guess they fear more guns is not the answer to thier crime problem, i think people feel different here

  • @silver760

I guess that's why in the US so many people get shot every year and even the police is against the liberal gun laws...

  • @silver760 What about the Germans or the Japanese, who have very low crime rates despite not being armed to the teeth

  • @Sphynra Pervasive police force and/or progressive social policies. Which is the best way to prevent crime. Not the cheapest, however. And not the most fun, either.

Also, if you can prevent crime as well as they can in Germany or Japan with the same means they're using, then you can give people of your country an Howitzer without many concerns.

  • God, i want one of these so bad...

  • what company make those.

  • mateba

  • Man I have been looking for one of those for several years now.

  • Model 6 is AWESOME!! I want one bad but cant find it.

  • 1:07 gave me a scare

  • Excellent video, sil992! Thank for for the post and the information on these very unique, very beautiful pistols.

  • where can i get one? is there a usa or canadian importer? please advise. thanks

  • is it real

  • hey sil992, great video, but i was just wondering, does the 2006m model also slide back? because this is the main feature i love about this gun and i was just wondering if they kept it on that model also. thanx in advance for reply

  • Ciao.

No, the 2006M is a standard revolver. Only the 6 Unica cycles like a semiauto.

    Sil

  • thank you sil, i wasnt able to find that info anywhere else. thanks for a quick reply too.

  • awesome cat

  • Shelley thanks a lot!

    Ciao

  • I've been trying to get the 8 3/8" .454 for nearly a decade, but the few places that claim to import them to the USA either say that they are no longer made, or that they can't get them ever. The best anyone has been able to turn up was a two tone 4" that was aparently made from extra parts. Obviously, that's not quite good enough for a $1200 (at the time) gun.

Of course, now I want a Unica in .460sw, so whatever.

  • Nicely done. And thank you for including your cat!

  • Far too expensive for what they are.

That look awesome though, if I had the money I'd probably get one though

  • It sucks, the beautiful part of revolver is the simplicity, that reloading mechanism is more close to a regular pistol but with only 6 bullets instead of 8 to 12 bullets

  • The mechanism is quite complicate, but it works very good. The limit of 6 bullets concerns every revolver, so (imho) it's not correct to compare them to a high capacity semiauto in a personal defence contest: there's no match.

On the contrary, compared to a standard revolver, the Mateba 6 Unica is extremely faster: it shoots always in SA.

    Ciao

  • +5*****

  • What are the chances that Smith & Wesson might try out the Mateba's "6 o'clock" barrel design in their revolvers?

  • Great review on an interesting design. From an engineering standpoint they're fascinating.

Wish I could find one in the US, but they're difficult to locate (price not a problem).

  • Does ANYONE know where to get one of these for less than 1000 USD$ ?

  • Why don't you just save up a little more.

  • no. i doubt you will get them anywhere for under 1500.

they usualy go for between 1500-2000.

  • Yes, but the catch is they're called Airsoft, aka toys.

  • I envy you.

  • A 6 Unica in .44 mag is my dream revolver.

There is only 1 importer of these guns here in America and they do not keep a standing inventory. All Matebas are imported per individual order, so these are very hard to come by over here.

  • Saw one at the pistol range near me in Des Plaines, IL. Kinda random.

If I can accidentally stumble into one here in Crook County, you guys oughta be able to find them floating around in the free states.

  • I think you have mixed up double action and single action.

  • yep looks like it, double action is when you pull the trigger of the gun the hammer cocks at the same time and can be fired without the hammer initially cocked. single action is when you need to cock the hammer first then pull the trigger to fire

  • damn those things are XBAWKS HUEG.

  • such beautiful revolvers!

    OSS!

    Shotokan Kokusai Karatedò

  • Only 1 mistake...

You have inverted (uncorrectly) the DA (Double Acton) and SA (Single Action) firing modes!!

When you pull the cock (don't laugh) by hand it's SA, when just pulling the trigger it's DA.

  • awesome!

  • luv your accent!

  • Italianglish.

    Or Borat style (see above).

    Ciao

  • "Shaylee, do you lake da Matehba two tousan seex em?"

Laughed so hard at that. You'll have to do your impression of us southern boys next time. "Muh-TAY-buh AWto-riVAWlver" lol.

    Great video.

  • Nice kitty.

I really really wish these were still made, and being imported into the USA.

  • Shelley is happy for your compliments.

    Ciao

  • ぬこw

  • Translation: lol, cat.

  • ive seen these guns a few times ... weirdest designed guns ive ever seen.. but they look awesome

  • fascinating guns, thanks for sharing
