Man, it's almost the whole band! Where's Jonny?! LOL! Seriously, Richie's voice has so much soul~very pretty voice. He has great control and tone. The reason why Richie is not a Lead Singer is because he doesn't have that special quality like Jon. Jon gets people moving, singing, clapping, dancing~Richie is just more of a musician and not a crowd leader. I absolutely love Bon Jovi and have been loving them for the past twenty seven years. They are perfect just the way they are!

@serpephone It's not the whole band. It was Richie's debut album solo. There's no Jon in it. Besides Riche always say that he does not want to be the leader singer. In spite of all his talent to sing and play the guitars.

I am a huge fan of Richie Sambora since 1990 and in my opinion he has all qualities even the special one to be a leader singer of any band in the world.

With vocal training he probably could've matched or done more vocally than Jon HOWEVER, he's never attempted to. Now, although Richie is a naturally better singer, his voice isn't "lead singer" quality...he's just a good singer, not a lead singer. You don't have to be good to be a lead singer, it takes more than that

Nah - I disagree with everyone who has been saying that Richie has a higher range...in terms of what has been achieved on record and live, Jon has done far greater things with his vocals and has, for the record, a higher range - both with lowest note and highest. He's also got smoother sounding vibrato and has held longer notes (up to 13s).

Keep in mind, that on record - Jon has sung in higher keys BUT he has done it with really rough sounding vocals. Generally, people like his live vocals

But what I like about Richie is especially better control of his dynamics and smooth alteration from high to low tune. BUT, on the other hand, few people can match Jon's "Santa Fe", "Bed of roses" or, for that instance "Let's make it baby".

Overall, no point in arguing, BJ is a simply a very good band ;-))

Richie has Stronger voice than Jon. But definitely Jon is much better singer and musican that Richie. /Jon write better lyrics than Richie and he can sing in many ways. Richie voice is more blues than rock. I like Richie voice but JOn's voice is best.... (for me)

You think Richie can only sing blues cause his two solo albums have been bluesy records, by his choice. Richie has always had a higher range than Jon and better control of his vocal dynamics, Jon sings everything the same way pretty much. And like it's been said, Jon is nowhere near the guitarist Richie is. Richie is generally a more poetic/mood-driven lyricist while Jon is more to the point, who's "better" is a matter of preference. I think Richie's solo stuff kicks Destination Anywhere's ass.

I assume you're a BJ fan just like myself, I absolutely adore everything they did up to year 2000, but let's face it Richie's a MUCH better singer, he's voice is higher octave and higher range than Jon's. He's better control of his dynamics. Much more sophisticated tunes. Smooth alteration from high to low tune. You don't have to be an expert to notice that! However I do love the entire band, but be objective. "Stranger in this town" is one of the best records in music history. gtreetings ;-)
