  • LEONARD HOFFSTADER?

  • Nerdgasm

  • Sweet!!!

  • Dude that was awesome.

  • Trekkies: people who die alone. Trekkies with a theremin: hide your girlfriends, wives, and/or daughters.

  • @bromixsr And hide your husbands because.......

  • The Theremin was already popular even before they used it for all the B-rated science fiction movies in the 50s.

  • Really Cool !

  • You can't play the air theremin because then you would just be playing the theremin.

  • *Walks in room, looks, shakes head, turns and walks back out*

  • Actually im rly no trekkie but this is nice!

  • Why the hell is this a response to a video called "hipster fistfight"?

  • I will marry this man. Mark my words.

  • Bazinga! LooL

  • Amazing

  • The ladies love him!

  • very well played !!! the video is also great ! super funny ! : D

  • ma com'è che il musicista somiglia a Leonard Hofstadter?

  • I want one~!

  • Love it!

  • Bazinga, indeed :-)

  • Ah I see. Sorry.

  • super cool !

  • oh so perfect!

    scene and sound

  • Awesome. Thanks.

  • sorry I forgot to say that the song "good Vibration was the one that I was commenting about.. I love star trek and this video was well done. Good going.

  • . The song took over 2 months to record, Glen Campbell played lead guitar, and the beach boys just provided the vocals later. The cost was $40K because of the time it took to record it.

  • This might be the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life.

    :o

  • it sucks i could have played it better with my pubic hair guitar

  • wonderful

  • Love this! Thanks!

  • "The Theremin became popular when the Beach Boys used it in the song Good Vibrations"

Please remove this lie from your video description. It pollutes the internetzzzzz

  • @SLagerZahne That's not a lie. That's probably the most famous Theremin riff there is.

Of course, it was used before that, but not really for mainstream music.

It's used quite often for alien films.

  • @hatmanmedia You misunderstood me. On the recording "Good Vibrations" Paul Tanner (not an original member) played an electro-theremin (invented by Bob Whitsell in 1958) which is a whole different instrument than the original theremin. In the music video a young Michael Edward "Mike" Love can be seen playing the Moog ribbon controller, an instrument developed for the Beach Boys in the 1960's for use on live performances.

  • @hatmanmedia The original theremin is a heterodyning based instrument and the electro-theremin is a synthesizer based instrument. They are two very different instruments!

  • Justice will be done to the infidels playing this instrument! Pain and suffering!

  • The theremin sounds fits perfectly! :D

  • it wasn't a Theremin in "Good Vibrations". There's a difference between a Theremin and a Tannerin. You'll notice the large difference by the videos of Good Vibrations performed live.

  • Why is the other 'like' button upside down?

  • I'm not a trek fan, but this shi9t is epic.

  • This is the funniest thing EVER.

  • LOL, love it!

  • Lol I've got to Lerner how to play this

  • thumbs up if you saw this after seeing sheldon's great attempt of it :)

  • Beautiful.

  • it's f***ing awsome !

  • Notice that there are no red shirts...

  • where's Jimmy Page when you need him?

  • @merobots If you've ever met a gay man, you would realize that skillful is just part of the territory. (After fabulous, that is.)

  • Nice!!

  • i'm more impressed with the visual effects.

  • The Beach Boys wanted a theremin-like sound, but they actually used a theremin-like instrument known as the "Tannerin"

  • Brilliant. Thanks.

  • Yeah because the first thing you do when you get teleported is walk over to your theremin and play the star trek theme song, then immediately teleport out.

  • you sir, are my new best friend.

  • The man in the blue shirt is sooo...... sexy! I wanna have sex with this man while playing this erotic alien music.

  • Actually, Beach Boys neer used a Theremin in Good Vibrations, but they wanted that sound.

  • Pssst! hey guys! don't tell anyone, but that guy might be a virgin! SHHHH

  • awesome

  • Love the entrance and exit.

  • Brilliant!

  • I cannot think of any reason to dislike this. ;)

  • outstanding!

  • Nerd Alert!

  • i have seen fanboys before, i have loved it but it is still contriversal to have the trek/star wr still happening, i just prefer star wars

  • soo gay, foureyes, star wars ruls, suck on that

  • @sirnathanator just by numbers alone Trek boasts 5 live action shows, an animated series, and 11 movies...Star Wars has 3 good films, 3 crappy ones, and a holiday special that should remain unnamed...unless you want to count the ewok movies too...but if that's the case The Muppets Take Manhattan is a Star Wars Movie too...But I'll be a sport about the great Trek/Wars battle...Watch Shatner honor Lucas here on youtube it's hillarious.

  • Nice!

  • BAH IT'S SO COOL I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MYSELF.

  • BAZINGA!

  • A trekkie making music with the use of the Force!

  • It's TREKKER

  • @SuperGuy344 trekkie!

  • A little fun fact for ya! It was popular before then. DERP

  • SO COOL.

  • this is the best version of the star trek theme ive seen yet.

  • Well done!

  • 5 people are jealous they can't play a theremin this well.

  • Leon Theremin patented his invention in 1928.

  • Awesome vid... but the Beach Boys didn't use a theremin. They used a tannerin. Very similar principles though... ;-)

  • Great video. How did you control the reassembly of particles? Cool effects.

  • yep... I also got here thanks to BBT... Sheldon rocks!!!

  • Sheldon definitely needs to play the Star Trek theme song with the Theremin on Big Bang Theory lol

  • SEXY !!!! half of these comments are cos of big bang. Love it how people can find time to look this stuff up !

  • Fascinating!

  • Grand Marshall of the Dork Parade

  • All these comments are hilarious just because if today's episode of BBT. Haha

  • how Leonard keeps himself sane when he's had enough of Sheldon

  • bloody brilliant!!!!

  • So incredibly cool and dorky at the same time.

  • That's his living room isn't it.

  • is that leonard from the big bang theory????

  • Wow, I didn't know Seth MacFarlane played the theremin..

  • NERDGASM

  • Ladies an Gentlemen:

Dr. Leonard Hofstadter on Theremin plays Star Trek opening theme!!!!

  • @Progarges lmao...that was the first thing I thought.

  • Video is great as well. :)

  • @Progarges Kinda weird I'm watching an episode of BBT when sheldon annoys the guys with the theramin

  • @Powmoro ha! I'm watching that episode now. hence my youtube search for the theremin

  • @qwertiepie EXACTLY !!!

  • @Progarges Dude I totally thought it was him too!

  • Fantastic! Best thing i have seen on You Tube.

  • Not to ruin your fun fact, but that wasn't a Theremin on Good Vibrations.

  • @foxkieran Yeah, there was. Look the song up on Wikipedia.

  • @droidekabakugan1986 First of all, Wikipedia isn't completely factual. Duh.

Second, Wikipedia states that it is an "electro-theremin," which is different.

"The instrument features a tone and portamento similar to that of the theremin (or thereminvox), but with a different control mechanism. The Tannerin doesn't actually sound much like the theremins of the time, and people who have heard both can easily tell them apart." It's a Tannerin, not a Theremin. End of story.

  • @foxkieran The awkward term "Tannerin" is a recent contrivance, attempting to combine Paul Tanner's name with the eponymous name "theremin." I think it is impolite; why not let Tanner's invention be remembered for its own merits? The name "electro-theremin" is confusing, implying that there are such things as "acoustic theremins." It was originally called "Paul's Box." Paul Tanner enlisted the efforts of Bob Whitsell to build it.

  • set your phazers to dope...

  • Wow, that's nerd on a whole new level right there. Impressive, I bet you have that set built somewhere in your house don't you? I bet you've never missed a convention either.

  • Mindgasm

  • incredible

  • Beach Boys didn`t use a theremin in Good Vibrations, but a Tannerin :)

    Very neat video!

  • @sergeeo Watch the documentary on Theramin and see Brian Wilson talking about using it on Good Vibrations.

  • @suzybabyyeah I read that in Tom Polk's site. Google "Tannerin Tom Polk", as I cant post urls on youtube :) I'll check the documentary anyway!

  • @suzybabyyeah btw check watch?v=CelV7EbuV-A&NR=1

  • Sooper Win!!

  • Beyond impressive!

  • lame

  • I love the hell out of you right now.

  • you think he can play it on the Vulcan Lute

  • god damn you haha i cant stop watching this.. awesome :D

  • ouu~ sounds spooky

  • Superb. I love it!

  • This is officially the nerdiest thing ever. Made. Of. Win.

  • lol nice

  • Good vibrations uses a tannerin, not a theremin; they sound identical, but the tannerin is far easier to play. Plus, you have to touch it, so where's the fun?

  • I am sufficiently wooed. I want that guys babies. Also I want one of those uniforms. That would be the sexiest role play ever.

  • @Hoopybunnie ....LOL.yeah right! getting it on with Mr. Spock in the transporter. Or a Klingon

  • @Hoopybunnie It would wouldn't it! :D

  • This is a great video! Well done!

  • Too cool! Love it!!

  • Talented? Yes! But it's still 100 to 1 that he's a virgin.

  • Lol I don't watch star trek but the theme music is very cool!

  • Okay, that was pretty cool. :D

  • oh this was FANTASTIC!!!!! loved it! YouTube needs a LOVE IT button!

  • Good thing he wasn't wearing a Red Shirt. Then he'd have to be killed in some horrible way afterward.

  • i hate the theremin

  • im in love.

  • HAHAHA I love it !

  • This is win.

  • extreme nerdage.... has been achieved

    ...this is a good thing

  • God, i bet he's a babe-magnet! :P

  • Great vid, good job! Interestingly, the theremin sound on good vibrations is a sampled theremin played on an early korg synth.

  • Scotty: who da fuck was that........

  • BEAM ME UP SCOTTY... I DONT WANT TO MISS THE CONCERT! SERIOUSLY THAT WAS GREAT!

  • This is the kind of man I want to marry.

  • haha. nice one :-P

  • lol that fuckin awesome.

  • :O amazing i want one. well done

  • Help! I need this in my Star Trek Presentation at collage. How can I link it to my powerpoint??? Thanks

  • @DATALIVES1 Use the hyperlink function ;)

  • Nicely done!

  • We need Sheldon on Big Bang Theory to take up playing this instrument!

  • I think this is a great, fun idea, well produced... but the actual theme was horribly sharp the whole time. I know theremins are really hard to find pitch on, but ugh. I couldn't stop cringing. :(

  • @wingsonwater Well, I have to agree to some point. A professional Thereminist would've played it better, yeah, but it wasn't bad. The way he produced the rest of the vid is pretty cool you have to admit...beaming in and out, I got a lick out of it.

  • okay that was cool. Even for an old 'Voyager' like me. TOS still kicking ass after all these years!

  • well done :D

  • A trekkie, playing on theremin the Star Trek original series main title, whit a Spock costume (pointy ears included) ... apearing whit the Enterprise teletransport effect...

    Geekest video ever!!! Jajajaja

    Congrats

  • this is so cool! but it would be much better, if there was a second voice (especially in 0:31-0:35)

  • were did you get this copy of the theme. I need a copy without "Space the final frontier..."

I know there's a copy on the Star Trek TOS Season 1 box set but the quality isn't good enough. can you please tell me where you got it?

  • brilliant !

  • I love it!

  • freakin hilarious...very cool!!!

  • WOW!

this has to be one of the best fan videos ever! you even got the green screen camera angle & your markers right. the theremin playing was spirited too. everything about this video works as a whole & makes total sense.

so well done, i have to add it to my favorites.

    live long & prosper

  • Coolest way ever to geek out!!!

  • Great playing and awesome effects!!!!!

  • Fab!

  • one ring to rule them all

    i take "the" outta psychotherapist

    Cheay!

  • Except that was the end credits. Of course i am just giving you a hard time, from one theremin player to another, fantastic job! It is an extremely difficult instrument to play that well.
