I like the idea of mixing in a ziplock bag because you can gently break up lumps and you don't put aluminum dust in the air which is not good for you.
@quakerlyster Just consider that plastic bags sometimes carry static electricity and that will not be good for you either if you know what I mean. Years ago they used to make cardboard cans to mix in. No static with paper products.
Yes I've heard that. I also read a flashpowder making tutorial where a guy deliberately used static sparks to try and detonate some fp and didn't succeed. Still, to be safe you can spray your work area and materials with some anti-static spray (used for clothes).
very nice video. i need to get a scale like that becuase they are much cheaper and the electric one i use is somehow inaccurate. dont share the comp. its a dangerous one
I know what the mix was, but I'm not gonna tell because of the people out there that only want to make bog bombs etc, and not foreworks, or as you called them in the chemical sale at PGI video, "the flash bang type".....
Hehe, long time no see ;-) seems like a pretty handy way to do it! great to see another of your videos again haha! You might wanna start out making some shells for us to watch =)? 5*
I really do not make fireworks; sometimes I may put together something special to end a display with. Before there were digital scales and internet sites we had to come up with a way to make formulas because I could not find a small scale back then measuring less than one ounce. You were afraid to ask because they thought you were selling drugs.
Dave you always deliver an excellent video. I have learned so much from what you have taught and your experiences and I want you to know that it is much appreciated. Please keep the videos coming and I hope to see you at kellners shoot night 2010!
I'm sure you know this but you should pre screen your chemicals SEPARATELY to remove any clumps. This ensures a more homogeneous and consistent result.
nice vid. just a heads up, harbor frieght has scales on sale right now. i just picked up a big one that weighs to the gram up to 5000 grams for 20 bucks. they've got smaller scales that max out at 1000 grams for about 10 bucks. not as cheap as the postal scale but much more accurate for a little bit more.
That sounds like a good deal I may have to check that out, of course you have to be careful with the quality on that Harbor Freight Stuff. Another thing about them is I do not buy anything there unless it is on sale.
yeah same here, i'm always leary of anything electronic from there but i checked the thing as soon as i got it home by hitting tear then adding nickles one at a time to make sure it increased 5 grams at a time. it check out, i weighed an entire roll.
not a bad price for such a high capacity scale and the best part was the weighing surface is removable in case you spill anything (you don't need to apply pressure to the scale to clean it)
oh my god use metric!!! i'm in the us and i have never used customary. WTF
