I'm 30 and I just wanted to say thanks for this, found it 2 weeks ago and got back from my op today... so happy... much less painful than I expected in general appart from the drains coming out. excruciating pain for a couple of seconds, flkashbacks of it on the tramadol for a couple of hours and then your home and dry. I would add, avoid tramadol if possible frankie boyle is right.
I just got home from the same opperation today and wanted to say I'm so glad I did listern to you before I went in. I wasnt sure if I should before then. you do such a good job of giving a realistic description of what people will go through. I'm just so happy to have it out of the way, generally its much less paintful than I thought it would be but you are right about the drains the worst pain but they are out in a couple of seconds and you quickly forget about the details.
had my op in jan 10 yes i can honestly say the removal of the drains was the worst i only had 2 in but they came out about 24hrs after the op i was still in icu. had to deep breathe gas and air but you just can take any deep breaths.. the other bad bit was having the wires removed about 3 days after the op it felt like it was pulling your gyts out
sorry this thing told me the first message was canceled so now you get an insight into the way my mind works too,,, double bubble.

Day one and day two were my worst days in my whole life.
Crazy crazy pain all over, it was as if God and the Devil were in the room with me.
If the ICU nurse wasn't holding my hand, I don't think I would have made it past the devil.
The drains didn't effect me as much. I couldn't cough, to much pain and to weak to really do anything.
