  • can you please give me a small tutorial on the process of doing a compression test for a 89 rx7 n/a like what i have to remove or add on the engine? thank you.

  • @143travieso remove one spark plug from each rotor. remove the fuse for the computer (EGI COMP something like that from the fuse box in the engine bay) put the compression tester in the front rotor top spark plug hole. Have an assistant hold the throttle all the way down and then crank the engine. Repeat with the release valve open and then repeat for the rear rotor

  • How silly, anyone knows you can't use this type of compression tester to check a rotary. You need to be able to see the compression on each rotor face and compare the difference. If the difference is out of spec then the engine needs rebuilding

  • You can use this style of compression tester. I was able to successfully diagnose a failed side seal with this video. When this motor was pulled apart it has 9 of 12 failed side seals.

  • hey i'm buying a 90 rx7 s5 model and the guy told me it don't run due to bad side seals i thought he meant apex seals but he said no. how much did you spend for each side seal and is it a big deal to fix?

  • @143travieso the side seals aren't that expensive but you will have to pull the motor out of the car and rebuild it which will require various gaskets and seals. Check rx7club (google) for more info

  • @solareon turns out it is the apex seals the owner did not know anything he said the engine was gone but i was able to get it running just by deflooding the engine but now it does not idle i just need a full tune up since it has not ran for about 4 years i think cause thats when the tags expired in 06'

  • @143travieso on the rotary engines if any of the apex seal or water jacket is bad DON'T BUY IT :) cause is bad motor most motors are usually bad but if get some one to check the compression and water jacket pressure and they both are good usually is a good motor.
