Game Review - Mortal Kombat (Sega Genesis)

Always loved the 1st MK as it had the whole "Enter the Dragon" feel with Ninjas, a Bruce Lee clone, and great backgrounds. MK II is a bit better, but this one felt so retro even when it was new.

Dose anyone know where I can get MK1 for the Sega Genesis that actually works? Every time a game store has a copy I buy it but it never works! People tell me to just get the special edition of Deception or download it, but it's not the same.

I've gotten lucky with MK2 & MKU3 as they work perfectly but never the first one.

Oh how I remember the controversy of this game. The SNES version had better graphics and sound while the Genesis had the blood via a code. The GB version does suck.

The gameboy version looks like an SNES pirated game, but Mortal Kombat reminds me of my childhood. If there's a 360 version of MK, I would get it.

Yeah I got suckered into the MK craze. ...After Mortal Kombat 2, Midway went down. Good. Serves them right for not making anymore games like: Smash TV, Tron, Blue Print, Wizard of Wor, Spy Hunter(PS2 game don't count), Xenophobe, Joust, Trog!, Robotron 2084, etc. Like SEGA, they lost all creativity and just went for the Money. Die Midway DIE!

I never played the genesis version with out the blood code on. Why would anyone ever play this with out blood?

Wow, good review! I remember playing a bootleg version of the arcade MK that was made by YAWDIM... Lol, mirror Midway... XD

Those bootleggers had lots of imagination!

The sounds were all messed up and even has some graphic glitches... Hilarious to play, you really should check it out on MAME or some arcade emulator, you'll probably laugh a lot! XD

The one on the Game Gear isn't too bad at least but yeah, the Genesis port is one of the best in it's day.

The Genesis version ROCKS. I heard the SNES one is better looking, but it plays awfully. And yeah, enter ABACABB during the opening sequence when you see the word "CODE" on the screen.

Not only does it enable blood and fatalities, but you get a whole cheat section at the main menu, where you can customize lotsa stuff in the game.

I hope to see a Let's Play and possibly a Genesis MKII review in the future!! And get well soon!

DULLARD (Down up left left A right down) is the cheat mode code. Enter it at the main menu. Take it easy!

The character graphics are decent considering that it's a Gameboy game (I thought that they were going to go for a cartoonish look). Trying to make the graphics look like the other versions probably took up the space that would have been used for Johnny Cage. The hit detection looks like shit, and I'm sure that the controls were atrocious.
