@Morganhesketh yeh but you cant run sli on any anmd chipset board. N mode on this board is not sli, if you want sli support you will need either and nforce chipset based amd motherboard or an intel motherboard and both will need sli certification to assure if you want to run 2 cards.i would recommend a radeon 6xxx series card to go with a new amd system but yes a single gtx 460 will run fine on this board. Personally for your price i would recommend a gigabyte 890gpa-ud3h or an msi 890fxa gd7

I will get this board because I have a Acer GD235hz and a ATI 5850 and a nVidia GTS250 and I just ordered my 3d vision glasses I don't want to get rid of my ATI card because AMD wants us to buy the new 6XXX series to use 3D Blu-ray on HDMI 1.4 and I rather combine both cards and take advantage of the this MSI's new technology, will post results upon receiving and setting up the updated rig with all details.

Well, this will be cool if it becomes a standard on every motherboard, if not, I don't really see it taking off simply b/c if I have the choice to base my motherboard purchase on using this or specifically to cater to a certain gpu type/chipset then I'm going to go with the later. I mean most people don't want to mix cards, only real reason to do so would be if you got a 480 now and then ATI releases their new card and you want to upgrade, then you could might mix if you had that option.

That doesn't seem too great, on my asus n98 evo (asus's nforce 980 am3 chipset) I get 26k gpu score in 3d mark with SLI'd 460s. So 2 480s only getting 19k seems like a poor SLI substitute.

As well, I think that Linus should mention that the gap between the 2 video cards cannot be big. Meaning that a strong card should not be paired with a more weaker card. An example would be adding a 9800GT to an already existing 5870. In this case, you will actually see a drop in performance over a 5870.

If you don't believe me, look up some reviews on boards with the Lucid Hydra chip.

The MSI Big Bang Fusion review on Guru3d has a lot of graphs

I have 2 5870s and when overclocked, I can easily hit 29k 3DMark Vantage point with 31k from the GPUs alone.

The Lucid Hydra chip does work but a measly 6% increase in performance does not justify the extra $400 bucks you spent on a 5870. Stick to crossfire/SLI for the time being and when this technology improves, hopefully we can see 100% scaling ;)

I read a few months back that this Hydra chip is better used with weaker cards. A 4770 + a GTS 250 provided very nice performance boost
