People keep talking about the Layla riff and I kind of see what they're on about, but I recognise it from Hacketts later instrumental track "Omega Metallicus" which must be where the idea got used instead when these tracks got shelved.
@vivelavidarocka This song was originally written during the GTR sessions but the two Steves (Hackett and Howe) split up, and GTR folded. Steve Hackett later reworked this song as a solo track - which finally saw the light of day in 2000.
Cool! Chris has a great voice! Thanks for posting! I just posted the rare version of this song that was a bonus track pn the import version of "Guitar Noir" wih Steve on lead vocals! If anyone's interested?!
Awesome track. Did you know that Brian May was influenced by Steve Hackett's style of guitar playing? I read this in a documentary or interview somewhere. But, I think Brian has got his own way of playing guitar. Anyway, I admire both the guitarists.
Yes, Brian May was particularly impressed with the way Steve Hackett used to play on the classic Genesis track 'Musical Box'. Perhaps that's where he got some ideas for his distinctive harmonic style of guitaring on many songs of Queen.
@ajittffcure When May worked with Hackett, he said it made him have to relook at the whole way he was playing guitar. IMHO May is a lovely 'little fill' guitarist, Hackett is a seriously top notch one.

@SPeacock Now it makes total sense why it sounded like that short lived project of his. Thanks for the info.

Este tema es anterior a Layla informate primero nabo

@robertoocmunicacion No dude. Layla es de cuando Eric toco con Duane Allman en Derek and the Dominos en 1970. Pero no es plagio. Se parece si.

Pre-poodle hair band sound. Did this song have to last 4 minutes? Sounded pretty much done at the 2 minute mark.
Layla??? 5 stars 'cause they are known guitarists.

I'm a Steve Hackett fan and a Brian May fan, but this track sounds a lot like a rip-off of Eric Clapton's "Layla"...
squonk78 2 years ago
yes, a fair comment.

@squonk78 musicians cover each other's materials all the time, I don't know if it's a rip-off..

Don't use Eric Clapton with Steve H and Brian M in the same sentence.

"Layla", to be more specific ;)

@ADYGUERRA1962 Me parece un plagio de Hackett a Clapton: Layla
