  • I'm from Bangladesh and thanks Shawn for helping our country.

  • You have passion... you will become a great talks-man ;)

  • I have my 100% support, you are doing a great job for the bangladeshi community and the people need help.

I hope to help you, go ahead________________.

Electrical Engineering University of Texas at Dallas

  • Notre Dame...Sucks...GO Cougours ( Houston University)...lol..they even shucks bad

  • your awesome man!

  • It irritates me how xian christians always try to bring innocent people in poverty into their cult. Im a Satanist with Joy of Satan ministries and am a philanthropist and give money to Kiva which gives microloans to people in poverty. Satan will prevail and soon enough we will live in harmony. Hail Satan!

  • Fucking Deakhead, where from you got this sheet story?

  • @foxa777 mate learn to spell u you stoog

  • never mind man u aint no faggot ......man i commented saying that in thebeggining sorri man dude that so depressing....children.....why would god do such a thing :(

  • faggot

  • A condom is the solution to poverty. If the poor morons in your country stopped having kids then there would be no poverty.

  • "Your country"? You mean my country Canada? Or the USA where I am right now?

You have it backwards buddy. Poverty raises birthrate. This is especially due to the high child mortality - it's hard to plan for a family size when many of your children won't survive to the age of five. However, when families break the cycle of poverty *THEN* child birth drops.

That's why rich Bangladeshi families have about 2 kids while poor families have 3, 4, 5, or more...

  • @Spartan2288 i think you are the moron. These people arent educated to think like that theyve had a struggle of life. Every man women wants children if they have the will and love to still look after them let them. Either help them out or stfu and quit ur bullshit

  • @Spartan2288 you are ignorant, in poor countries there is a high birth rate because from the prescriptive of the poor by having more children, the children can work and help out the family

  • hey... whatever other people are saying, questioning or however they're judging you it doesn't really matter... all of that pales in comparison to the fact that you're doing a great thing out there and you're making a difference. Much support!!

  • The USA is with Bangladesh, we'll help you destroy the arab/pakistani muslim influence and help develop your country into what it should be not what it is.

  • cool i don't knew that

    that USA is with Bangladesh

  • We'll stand by those who value freedom.

  • nice!

  • moron...

  • why do people always think that if someone doesn't have computers, abstract money, or other material possesion makes them poor and they need help, you can humanitarian without being christian moron, birdflue give me a break, new diseases are mostly mutations of civilization's development. Ofcourse you can help people that need it, but do it with opened eyes, you have yours eyes shut.

  • I'm not saying the poorest of the poor all need a jag. What I am saying is that they deserve the right to clean water, the ability to read and write, and not die from diseases that can be easily preventable.

Are you speaking from an epidemiological background when you say "new diseases are mostly mustations of civlization's development"? Because most new diseases spread, grow, in the LEAST developed regions of the world.

Whose the one with the eyes shut?

  • yeah...Bangladeshi Christians turn silent in North America @ Human Rights....(specially in Canada)...when they start doing odd jobs....then they compare their living standards with Bangladesh..and REGRET!

but before...they worked as AGENTS...Missionaries....the main power of IMPERIALISM.....Missionary...

  • This was put together very well, with sincerity and a deep understanding of the issues that affect the world. This is a symbiotic relationship, in which the nations of the world are all affected, no matter how much we might wish to turn inward. Good work!

  • Great job Shawn! I'm glad you have the guts to put our 2 cents in about this...Today is Election Day and now matter how this turns out our future President needs to put ending global poverty a lot higher on their list of priorities...

  • Good job Shawn...thank you for having the guts to put your 2 cents in about this...I'm glad you talked about this...it doesn't matter which party wins, what matters is that global poverty should be a lot higher on our list of priorities compared to where it is now!

  • He is trying to do the right thing but he need to step out side the box to do that. But thanks for trying though.

  • Bangladesh needs atheism not christaianity or Islam. A secular constitution with that arabic crap removed is the first step.

  • " Bangladesh needs atheism not christianity or Islam. A secular constitution with that arabic crap removed is the first step. "

    AGREED!

  • As an ex-Muslim from Bangladesh, I couldn't agree more!

  • Well, at least secularity. Atheism might be a bit harsh.

  • Who are you working for? For McCain and the US or the poor? What about your favorite McCain's party carrying an illegal war in Iraq? Why they don't concentrate more on finding Laden hiding in Afghanistan instead of destroying Iraq? Why don't you ask yourself about the creation of Laden and the Talibans by the Americans back in the 1980s? Why don't you ask yourself why the peace process in the mid-east went strong when Carter or Clinton was President? You will find answer if you check this!

  • great job buddy!!!

  • R u bangladeshi and a christian?

  • I'm human - that's all that should matter, not my race or religion. I mentioned in the video "Christian Duty" because all of the current Presidential candidates are committed and active Christians. If I talked about Bangladeshi politics (where all the candidates tend to be Muslim) I would have said the same about "Muslim duty".

And I just came to Bangladesh for this project. I've lived more years in America than I have stayed in Bangladesh.

  • My father is Bangladeshi. Out of curiosity do you live in Bangladesh or USA at present? Anyway buddy what you did for this poor country is a good thing my dad often given money to the poor there.

  • r u in dhaka in this?

  • yep

  • Nope. So what happens now that you've lost your bet?

  • Obama is a communist!!

The communism is dangerous for the people, for the human rights,Europe and the world free of communism!

    NO COMMUNISM!

Free Tibet!Free Europe!Free Italy! Free all World to communism!

  • LOL - in your previous comment you say I'm doing Missionary Work. Missionary work is something that is very selfless. But now you suggest I'm on a "big ego trip". Please if your going to criticize - make sure you don't contradict yourself :-)

And, make sure your not being a hypocrite either. Judging by your channel profile - you're Muslim, right? Aren't Muslims supposed to talk (according to the Qu'ran) to even their own enemies in a way that fosters friendship instead of animosity?

  • So you paint Americans as "child murders". And some other people paint Muslims (I presume your Muslim based on your channel profile) as "child murdering terrorists".

Which stereotype has the moral high ground? Perhaps neither?

  • ok first of all this has nothing to do with what shwan is doing in bangladesh. he is helping reduce poverty, where does the question of religion come in? and also you have judgmental issues.i am also a muslim and nowhere in the quran does it say if people of the other religion is helping others that you should denies it, but insted you should help them not criticize them. uncultured project is a great help to many people so be thankful.

  • I've been watching these videos all morning (found it by way of the nerd fighter brothers) and I've already cried more than once. Amazing, I jumped over the Red Cross after the second video. Wish I could remember this stuff every time some stupid thing in my life seems so important. I pray you're doing well.

  • You are doing a good job! Shout out to all my Bengali brothers out there

  • sorry i meant intro*

  • im seriously watching every video tonight in order since earlier after watching john and im still saying your made of awesome. your stories and the things you share with us via youtube is a wonderful effort and act of kidness. youre not only optimistic, you are beyond kindess. we need more people doing this like you.

also, um... whats the song you use in your into? i like it and was wondering what song that was. if you dont mind that is. =]

  • hey Briellesabop :-)

Thanks for all your comments - they are really appreciated. Especially in this video - where a lot of people did misinterpret what I said and left some rather harsh comments.

The intro music is "How Far' By Jamison Young. There is a link to a free download for his song in the sidebar :-)

  • are u bangladeshi by race..? im just asking you i knw u r human first but pleasre tell me what race are u.?

  • Don't you DARE tell me to vote for a Christian, you racist piece of shit. Christians are NOT superior to any other race. And there IS a major difference between the parties... the Republicans stand for rewarding the rich and punishing the poor. That is their ideology. The democrats pretend to stand for looking after the poor, but really have a similar ideology to the republicans.

  • Hey CarlKenner. I definitely didn't say that Christians are superior to others. What I was just pointing out that EVERY SINGLE candidate currently still running for the party nomination is a Christian and emphasizes their Christian beliefs and their faith. I have no problem with people emphasizing their beliefs. But I think they need to follow the part of their beliefs that say they need to care for the poor.

No racism was intended. Hope that clarifies things.

  • I thought you might want to know I met this guy while flying to Washington, D.C. who told me that they are building plants all across the US specifically to mass produce vacinations for the bird flu. I agree with you that we need to get help there fast. You are truly an inspiration :)

  • John Mccain us no fan for me at all, but that is just my opinion. But like you said, you're not telling us who to vote for.

Yet you should also focus on the canidates other views. A president supporting the end of poverty might be also supporting wars, which will decrease our country's financial stature and make it so we cannot lend to these poor people.

But still, any canidate who cares for the working human being that needs help is my friend.

  • hey PointsOfAuthority - good point. I didn't want to talk about the war because there are so many people for and against it - that I thought I would lose the important message of fighting poverty.

And I believe that ending poverty is a good way to cut down on extremism and stop future wars. So any candidate who TRULY wants a war-free future, needs to be working on a poverty-free future.

  • ending poverty = Edwards

  • hey Different660, Edwards really made sure people knew his anti-poverty stance. It's a shame that other candidates currently running aren't as anti-Poverty vocal as him.

  • i love bangladesh it is place for mango it should be 5 wonders of the world ok

  • Well... it just didn't resonate with me. waste!

  • its great that ur trying to spread awareness for the people of Bangladesh but please do not convert people. let them keep their culture and religion

  • hey shahiharstine - I'm not in the business of conversion. Although, I do have a problem with some rural cultures which allow for women to be oppressed and harassed - and often do speak out against that.

  • Ron Paul wants to restore the US to its founding roots, end the corrupt fiscal policies of our administration, spread freedom and end costly empire building, and drastically cut down government spending. Ron Paul wants to lower taxes and cut down the federal deficit of 9 trillion dollars as much as possible. Paul encourages humanitarian efforts, but doesn't think its the governments job. Dr. Paul believes you should spend your money the way you want to. RP 08!

  • we can only pray for people like you, i bless you to get better my friend

  • Wtf is wrong with you? he sees a problem and he's doing something about it. He's doing more than most of us can say we did... So shut up if you don't have anything good to say

  • You try it. Immature douche.

And he's doing a lot more than you btw.

  • The sad thing is, we need to fix our nation first because it's very difficult with a war - a giant drain on the economy.

Otherwise, keep up the good work. It's inspiring.

  • THE USA SHOULD GET SHIFT THE AMERICAN ARMY TO INDIA AND BANGLADESH TO COLONIZE IT AND ANNEX IT INTO OUR EMPIRE! then move on to Mexico

  • and shawn puts his hope in THESE amercans?

  • I am Canadian I am just joking

  • fooled me...sorry for the assumption. how about annexing canada into the great american empire as well? Or does the sarcasm have its limits

  • The USA needs to focus on it's own problems than other countries, sorry. We give a shitload of money to other country and need to focus on our own, then help.

  • just die

  • Old3r - What is wrong with what dunnowy123 said? Isn't self-reliance a good thing? For example, if India took dunnowy123's advice and focused on IT'S own problems it WOULDN'T BE POOR now would it?

And besides, what is so "magical" about the white man that he is needed to lift up the world's colored people? Self reliance is the key.

And we DO give money - check out a book called "The White Man's Burden: Why the West's Efforts to Aid the Rest Have Done So Much and So Little Good"

    Peace

  • utube9000 - You do have a point. I just have a feeling that things aren't going the right way. Hunger, death, kidnaping, poverty, war...

    Feels wrong doesn't it?

  • Well poverty and war have been with us for a long time. But I do believe things are getting better in the "Third World" - their economies are developing and India is not in "mass starvation" mode like it used to be.

I think the US Constitution was the best thing that ever happened to the entire world because it proved that people -when LEFT ALONE - will create prosperous, productive societies WITHOUT the help of government elites. The Third World would benefit from this idea too.

  • It only serves the US to bring up the standard of living of the people of the world. As long as the standard of poverty remains at the level it is at in Bangladesh, our jobs will go to Bangledesh. Pay them more and they will expect more pay - more pay in their pockets and the US companies will think twice about sending American jobs there.

  • Bangladesh needs to work itself out of its problems. The major reason that Bangladesh is poor is because of it's corrupt politicians sucking everything out of the people. America cannot resolve internal problems like that. I am a Bengali-American and I have seen both sides of the world.

  • I've found the recent comments to be a bit disturbing, so I'm adding my own 2 cents.

First off, while America spends the most money on foreign aid, it is not the nation that gives the highest percentage of foreign aid. We only seem to give more because we have more. While Sweden gives 1.03% of its income to foreign aid, the USA only gives .17%.

Secondly, to those of you who say that world issues are not our problem...I think you missed the point of this video.

    UnculturedProject: thank you.

  • america spends most if its money on kids toys and coffe. i read it in a world record book. ;) if you dont belive me then fine i dpnt care but dont come over to me and start yapping like every one else. geesh that sounded mean...

  • America has the greatest amount of income from any nation though. even .17% is millions more than swedan

  • *of

  • THE 3RD WORLD ,WILL HAVE TO SOLVE IT OWN PROBLEMS..

    AMERICAN SOLUTIONS,will not work there....

The first step is smaller familys........

  • hmmm maerican solutions will not work there? how about america stops bombing countries just because they feel like it and protecting their own economies with heavy quotas while sending their junk to us third world people with almost no tax and then calling it globalization?

  • Hey Jerk, the U.S. shouldn't be a charity organization. U.S. already gives more $ (public & private) away on stuff like this than anyone else (to people that hate us). Want to end poverty? Get off your ass and work for it. Don't sit and whine for the government to do it. See "IN 52 SECS WHY BARACK OBAMA CANNOT WIN A GENERAL ELECTION" on Youtube. Obama will tell you why he should not be President. He is ignorant and dangerous. If you watch it and want to vote for him you're an idiot, don't vote.

  • hey rwrobo, ur the most ignorant person i have ever seen. Firstly " get off your ass " well dumb fuck if u didn't realize by now all the children who are under poverty work, it's jsut the pay is too little, and they dont have opprotunities like we do. U are the bigger asshole i have ever seen. Put your head in the toilet and flush it to clear ur head. Fag.

  • sorry for the harsh words but seriously ur 41 and your saying that these kids are lazy. Well they work more dangerous jobs then most adults, when they're welding they dont even have a mask. Open your eyes.

  • People when there makeing a new account usally just pick a random age that they want to be. thats what I do. I think im 106. Like that is the age I picked. lol its common sense. oh and plus yeah i kinda agree with you. (reply to FireSDK)

  • its people like you who are obstacles to abolishing absolute poverty. all the U.S. has done is create inequality with the money they give to these countries...and they don't even give that much... tons of countries like Sweden, UAE, Germany, UK, Japan give more of what they have

  • o God don't start this...we DO give alot of money to countries like this...which is part of the reason we're 800 bill in debt..

  • and still many of you spend money on useless luxuries and even worse: wars

  • Yeah canada is around that. the united states is in debt because the government and puppet masters pull strings to use money for unknown secret causes like 9/11 fear tactics leading to war in Iraq. u.s history states, we must have war at all times. its in our blood, and it fits our designs. = debt on the outside

  • DumpOnYourFace.............You sux!

  • do you disagree? Hippie. Good thing Hilliary came!! Hope she wasn't fired at from snipers in the hills. No one will end Poverty. Especially our American Recessed asses. First, end war in te middle east, then in the politically torn countries in africa. Then poverty will end, but these things have been here for thousands of years.... so shut up hippie.

  • Everyone thinks of changing the world few think of changing themselves, when enough do the world will have changed.

  • I seriously doubt sharing the opinions held by a brilliant Harvard/Columbia economist and a Catholic priest make me a hippie...

  • I went to your website and COMPLETELY understand that your relatives think you're nuts (because I'm bengali, too), but you are changing the world, little brother, so keep at it and don't listen to the "EESH"es that are coming your way.

    Mitali Perkins

  • Hey Mitali, yeah but that was referring mostly to those who never heard of YouTube or have access to the internet. As far as those relatives are concerned, I'm making a bunch of home movies! :-)

  • yeah straightup shawn don't listen to these crappos that think America the great is self sufficient at all. Thanks for showing how the politicians do their part

  • thanks shawn, thanks youtube.

    i come from bangladesh

what is amazing about it is the resilience of the people -it has been proved by the ngos how a little opportunity can change peoples lives -

  • Thank you for doing this. I hope that eventually I am old enough (I'm 16 now) and have the money. Thank you for doing this. BTW the Vlogbrothers now have your "The Young Hardworking Poor of Rural Bangladesh" video as their fetured video on their profile page. That is how I found this channel. Exepect, the next time they update or sooner, an influx of nerfighters. From a nerdfighter and fellow humainitarian (and bad speller), best of luck, Readera.

  • Thanks Readera! DFTBA!

And I'm a bad speller too, but what's worse is that I often screw up my grammar as well :P

  • Hi,

I want to ask you,why is your poverty discussion just focusing on Bangladesh only. As i previously mentioned Poverty is a global problem. In 60's people in UK faced problem of homelessness, unemployment and it still exists..So first Developed nations also have to think of these issues, its not only underdeveloped nations

  • Hi 440voltz, good question! My focus is on Bangladesh because this is the country I have come to try and make a difference. I'm doing this on my own money from savings and family donations - I can't go everywhere. And you are right, poverty is not exclusive to Bangladesh or even the underdeveloped world. But the kind of extreme poverty you find in the third world (such as Bangladesh) is really something that needs to be addressed and more focus needs to be on.

  • Thanks for the reply. I gotta say you are doing a good job. I guess your project needs more exposure to the world than youtube as most people just come here ,watch the video, appreciate and just disappear..My comparision to Uk was just an example to show if a developed country can still have poverty, how would v acheive the mission of ending poverty by concentrating just on third world countries..There has to be strict action plan to eradicate poverty

  • Hey 440voltz, that's a good point. What I would love to see my lifetime is the end of extreme poverty we see in the world. A lot of my work is inspired by "The End of Poverty" by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs. For him, ending poverty means doing enough so that people can start helping themselves. That means helping them stay healthy, can eat, can learn - and then give them an opportunity to make their own living. Most people in the third world are trapped in a cycle of poverty - working but still poor.

  • I like what you are doing but I have different ideas. I have similar dreams like you and working on some things. Life is such that people expect returns in every thing. No one would mind sending sms to a tv game show but if they are asked to donate same money for a good cause, their mind is flooded with thoughts to do or not to do..The problem is every one expects out of rich people but in reality comman man has also need to do some thinking

  • 440voltz, I also respectfully take issue with your comparison of UK's poverty in the 1960s and Bangladesh's extreme poverty in the present situation. Even in the 1960s, most people in the UK had access to universal health care, universal access to education, and protection from natural disasters.

    It's just a false comparison.

  • thanks man for doing this. I am really happy to see you trying to help Bangladeshi people.keep it up.

  • Don't worry buddy....hopefully the majority of people have wizened up since 2004....I don't think McStain will be able to carry out the master plan of sending this country to hell as Mr. Bush's administration wanted to.....

Democratic in November. It's time the little guys got their due....not the 1% of people who have half our nation's wealth and still complain about paying high taxes......and pretend they like Christ to appease the hillbillies in the middle of the country.

  • VERY EXCELLENT VIDEO.

It reminds me we need to take our own actions and thinking as seriously, as we do our presidential candidates, because every individual, is a true agent for change.

  • no i just know bs when i see it i dont need to read lips i am not deaf although i know alot of sign language

  • no i just know bs when i see it i dont need to read lips i am not deaf although i know alot of sign language

  • I'm not an american citizen but i heared Senator Obama speaking about change and a new world order. I work as a aid worker in Bangladish, and i've seen first hand the extreme povert there, i think if Obama elected he can inspire a lot of decent young ppl and it can transform the world to a new better direction. If you hear Obama talk and if you are not inspired by him the only reason i can think of is because you damn or you are *****...........NORWAY FOR OBAMA !

  • p.s. i don't know how obama will be able to balance his new presidential role with his other job as being an oil tycoon....... oh no wait, that's your current president!

    good bye

  • it's a terrible pity that schwarzenegger can't be president i'd say he'd make some really, really, really good decisions with his puny mind.

just keep watching your tv and everything is going to be ok- your tv never lies.

oh did you hear britney spears is having a mental breakdown? thats terrible isn't it*

    *(tiny sprinkle of sarcasm)

  • *(see bottom of text for meaning) yeah this makes loads of sense because past adventures of a dangly bit of flesh situated between someones legs can really define wheather or not someone can be a good leader. i am also shocked and appauled (not really) by the fact that he doesn't wear an american flag lapel pin which symbolises eh ........ symbolises ......... eh.... corporate backed genocide and the fusion of business and politics.

  • AND i really can't get over the fact that he doesn't put his hand over his heart when he hears the national anthem (he'd be better off with his hands over his ears cause it's a fucking shite tune)

  • Good job...big mistake for anyone, though, to think that bigger government will solve any of the problems here or abroad.

  • I believe Obama is the best for this job

  • You have courage. Speaking your truth, boldly and with conviction, will make you hated by the left-wing, people who proclaim to care for the weak and poor while instituting policies that, ironically, keep them weak and poor... and thus, their base intact. You keep on doing what your doing and just pray that people like "fun"cple66 get an attitude adjustment before it becomes cancerous.

  • Too bad that you are not aware that McCain is stealing all states votes. Evidence - johnmccainDOTmeetupDOTcom/about/ AND ronpaulDOTmeetupDOTcom/about/

  • does this apply to you?

    as a human being?

    /watch?v=h7BZjjYNNdA

  • Free trade is not wrong in itself - in fact it should be promoted by the right and the left. However third world countries must be permitted to have protection of their local industries while building up, since their local markets otherwise would be filled with subsidized commodities from the rich world.

The free trade agreements of today are nothing but modern imperialistic extractions from poor to rich.

  • I'd say the World Bank is directly responsible for the the misfortunes in third world countries. The Wahington Consensus of the nineties and the free trade agreements involving the US and the EU all have as their targets to eliminate trade barriers in third world countries, but at the same time not acknowledging that western trade barriers must be removed and that subsidizing.

  • There is a pandemic here in America and globally.

  • I'm voting for Ron Paul.

  • Hey funcple66, my "people" is the human race and my "culture" is one which taught me to care for anyone in need regardless of race, religion, class, or creed.

I fail to see how I am betraying either of those.

  • Sorry I beg to see how by rejecting your peoples culture is caring about everyone. White people come and you embrace their racist religion and ideology.

You disgust my family with your weakness.

  • Hey funcpie66, I'm honestly curious by your comment. Can you elaborate what exactly I am betraying?

  • These are things we should be thinking about when we are enjoying the comforts of food, shelter, clothing and the best treatment possible when our health fails. Voting is a privilege and should be a priority when these choices are available. Check out the Barack Obama platforms and you decide. Isn't he what we all have been asking for to lead our great nation?

  • we're broke. how are you going to afford universal healthcare. i prefer those who can and have worked eat, and those who can't or sadly couldn't starve, rather than EVERYONE starving and dying. i'm not being cruel, i'm being reailstic. we don't have the money to pretend we're AMERICA!!! anymore.

  • That type of selfish thinking is why this country is the way it is. Sad, just sad.

  • Ah, that makes more sense. I find that people in general use their religion as a sort of their claim to being "better". Personally I'd rather judge a person based on their actions rather than what they say.

  • /watch?v=Sto7HYC5XnU

    you may like it

  • Thank you for going back to your home country, looking after your own people, who share your heritage and your values. Now WE europeans and european-americans are going to look after our heritage, our values and protect our borders and our communities.

    Hopefully you'll respect that.

  • Hey Sinekyre, you're from Norway, a country where 2,500 people have AIDS this year. AIDS is a disease that originated in Africa (according to latest research). If Europeans and European-Americans cared about dying Africans back when the disease was localized - you wouldn't have Europeans and European-Americans suffering with this problem. Helping others beyond your borders and beyond your communities helps those within it.

    Hopefully you'll respect that.

  • bangladesh-american and he has gone to help in bangladesh,u european-americans go to Europe and protect your borders there

  • Dude you don't even have a clue to how ignorant and clueless you are! Notre Dame University has to be ashamed to have had you as a student! Perhaps you should try to attend at least a dozen classes on commend sense because you have none. And in reference to global poverty, put the blame where it belongs, on the governments of the world's nations and not on the people of America! So stay where you are at, because America needs more people like you to get out of our Nation!

  • nvsyru, you think if you are going to comment on someone's schooling and education maybe you should use a spell check before you post your thoughts. its COMMON sense not COMMEND sense.

  • If you are going to talk about ignorance and being clueless maybe you should have someone proof read your comments before you post them or have someone explain this video to you. The blame is not being put on the American people. It is clearly just trying to bring awareness to people like yourself who are little close minded in their American lives.

  • However, since you are so brilliant and clearly well educated maybe you should do a little more research into international issues and educate yourself before you start shooting off your mouth and making yourself look like a fool. Out of curiosity what kind of people are you referring to here, that should leave the country? I would like to know. because again it would help explain to the readers how ignorant and clueless you really are.

  • Hey nvsyru, most of the points I made in this video are reflected in the book "The End of Poverty" written by renowned Harvard economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs. I also used clips of his speech in this video to backup some of my points.

I don't doubt my own ignorance. But I like to think I have had a chance to learn from the best and brightest scholars from America and around the world. And Dr. Jeffrey Sachs is 100% American (so you can't ask him to leave) - he's far from clueless or ignorant.

  • You say that Ron Paul will not help the cause of fighting poverty. However, you indicate that war-mongering candidates such as McCain and Clinton WILL contribute to it's eradication. Our senseless wars overseas only perpetuate the conflict and governmental instability that create economic problems for individuals. Ron Paul is a constitutionalist- he wants to trade with other nations and develop diplomatic relations with them, but does not condone military interventionism, like the others.

  • Hi Stacy, I think I might have given the wrong impression to some with this video. I mention McCain and Clinton because they did something involving this country - so it was relevant to mention their names. It wasn't an endorsement or anything like that. I mention Ron Paul at the end as a deleted scene because I wasn't sure whether or not to mention him because he has a very unique view towards the UN the other candidates did not share. And, as I said, it's possible his approach could also work.

  • We can debate all we want about morality of sterilization, but if Bangladesh doesn't start on it soon, that country will disappear. It is the most densely populated country in the world and has one of the highest growth rates. No new land is being made. The country will self consume.

  • Alright looked up information on the Current US President. I've heard him talk ONLY about religion but NOT IN ONE political speach have I heard him mention religious reasons for his decisions. He didn't have religious reasons for going to War with Iraq and HE INSISTS its not a RELIGIOUS WAR. Also he's against stem cell research because he thinks their a lost of human life which even Atheist can see the logic in.

  • One thing the government of Bangladesh can do, and it won't cost them anything, is declare themselves as a secular nation. Second give equality to all, men and women that means equal opportunity.

  • Hi Tom, do you know that Bangladesh has had not just one... but two - democratically elected female heads of state? Did you know that no one is allowed to force women to wear burqas or hijabs in this country? Did you know that girls have better access to free education in this country than boys?

One of the reason I am putting these videos on YouTube is so that people can move away from these stereotypes and simple (blame-the-country) solutions to poverty.

  • I'm not talking about free education; I'm talking about higher education. And I'm talking more job opportunities and I mean in all fields. And also treatment of women socially. NOT EQUAL. And I mean equal rights as a secular nation, so no religion is above any other religion.

  • And yes I knew all that about Bangladesh, but still most of the women there are still undereducated. Because of social stigma.

  • How would sterilizing women help alleviated this social stigma? Wouldn't it be making things worse? Because wouldn't the government be imposing this on women?

  • Why don't you sterilize the men?

  • Better yet, sterilize both men and women.

  • Maybe if America became like a Utopia with little to no problems of their own to contend with, then I would see your point, but to think we just HAVE to help others when we still need to help ourselves is just a ludicrous notion. We're already in debt over 8 trillion dollars, the last thing we need to do is worsen that debt by contributing millions or billions to another country. Like TomTomTom said, looking for individuals to help you out instead of the government would be best.

  • Hey Deometris, America doesn't HAVE to do anything. I hope that was clear. I was just saying its the morally right thing to do and one which we should be doing. America is in debt - yes - but a great deal of that debt comes from ensuring its security in the world. Helping fight poverty is one way of ensuring that security - in a way that is much cheaper than war. Many scholarly people (not just guys like me on YouTube) make this argument. Dr. Jeffrey Sachs (Harvard/Columbia) is one of them.

  • As I said before in my post that was deleted, Americans are tired of spending so much money on the War on Terror, and we just can't afford doing that. When a democractic President is inevitably elected national security won't be the biggest concern.

  • The next President might spend less money on the War on Terror - but admittedly there are extremists out there that want to do the US harm.

What I believe is that threat can be alleviated by helping fight poverty. Fighting poverty is a way to fight terrorism. It's also cheaper than warfare.

  • And you fight that poverty with mass serialization.
