@jupejupes Oh protip: In trying to get the last little bit of tire onto the wheel (4:06) , if 180 degrees around the tire is on the bead seat, there's no chance of getting the last little bit on. Notice nowhere on bill's tire is it seated on wheel. Try to get as much of the tire towards the center and into the dip between both bead seats. If you do that, it's literally 3 spoonings. Otherwise, you'll rip the rubber and the tire's cords and the tire still won't pop on.
Thanks for posting this! I asked my BMW shop how to do this and they wouldn't even entertain the idea of me trying this myself. I'm looking for your other video of how to change the front tire now. Looks like that silicone really helps you to break the bead if you put it on when you install a new tire.
Now just have to build a took kit that will allow tire replacement.
And yea, I've had tons of trouble getting beads to seat properly. Have had to wrap the ratchet strap, lube, bounce, over inflate, jump. Especially fronts. Tend to want to "twist" on the wheel. I keep a ratchet strap in my tool kit, works as a hoist, spring compressor, winch of sorts, tire bead setter. Good times.
All done: all tips are really appreciated. My bead didn't pop as easily as yours (or maybe I didn't dare put enough uhhhhmmmpfff into it at the beginning: a little soapy water around the rim seemed to help. Same for putting on the new tire: slipped on like Snow White's Alpinestars with soapy lube.
You are "supposed" to, but I don't balance my tires except on high speed sport bikes. I for sure don't balance knobbies. I just put the red dot on the tire next to the valve stem and be done with it. Never had a problem in 30 years of riding. But if I am replacing tires on something like my CBR1000RR then I for sure balance them since the potential speeds are much higher.
@josephguvnor I only balance my sport bike tires. Never balance knobbies or even the tourances on my GS. I just make sure the red dot is near the valve stem and go with it. Never had a problem.
@advridermag I never even heard of balancing anything other than a super sport. When I first started doing my own tire changes I looked everywhere for a tire balancing system or something. All I found was "not needed". Never noticed a thump, flat spot or anything. Pretty much everyone's experience. I don't have any weights on my GSA from the factory. Probably just BMW guys being BMW guys.
