Year 2007 i was in New York and i stay hotel Pennsylvanian at that time.I like hotel history and every thing what that glory, what is still is there, mean to me.
This hotel is BEAUTIFUL from the outside- I dont know why the architect cannot gut the interior and keep the exterior walls of the structure, similar to the Hearst Tower. That will look great! The combination of this old Gotham-like exterior combined with a new glass tower will look AMAZING! Why do they want to TEAR down everything-especially when right across the street, one of the most beautiful buildings in the world(PennSt) was destroyed to make room for the CRAPP that exists there today?
The only part of the hotel that could be considered "landmark" is the Art Deco lobby. But above the lobby is a creepy and dangerous atmosphere. At some point an unlucky guest is going to become a crime victim.
It would be impossible for any owner to renovate this hotel. It should be torn down and perhaps replaced with a chain hotel which could still serve the MSG crowd.
@victoriaindigo NO ... exactly that. It is NOT impossible. the hotel Pennsylvania is a similar structure to many hotels across America. Very similar to a Hotel in our City, The Francis Marion. Yes it requires WORK and innovation and Funds, but that is not "Impossible." I DO NOT recommend they RESTORE the hotel. Of course not. They should gut most of the interior and remodel it for modern standards, keeping THE SPIRIT of integrity to THE IDEA of a nice art deco structure. Actually improve it.
Perhaps they should have demolished the hotel and left the station standing.....
