  • what year did the metro vick class A get taken out of service ?

  • The noise of them old trains used to scare me when I was little for some reason :P

  • Lovely footage of the a class, thns for sharing

  • top class and in stereo . must have been an expensive camcorder in 1993:)

  • :)....Think it was at the time...pretty basic panasonic...!!

  • love the engine sound from these brings back the memorys

  • That little 011 sounds like a british class 35. I think I've still got some warming to do to that GM howl, though.

  • the 011 a class was the main engine in the early 80s i dont see any of them around now

  • @gateopenope the last example of a 001 class (or to give it it's older clasification A class ) of which 011 is a member left the rails in 1994-95. thats not bad consideering metropolitan vickers of manchester built them in and around 1955 ! thankfully the ITG have one preserved in working order . A39 ( or 039 as it was in it's later days with C.I.E and irish rail ) now runs on a preserved railway in northern ireland .

  • fantastic !

great to see the A's working with great sound and clarity

and seeing two Ammonia Liners together brilliant

  • Hi mythicalireland

Thanks for the comment...yes I have more somewhere...!! seem to remember there was a limerick-rosslare that went in to limerick jn then backed out then headed to rosslare filmed that..will keep my eye out for that..unfortunately no more A class though..

    Cheers Warren

  • This is brilliant footage - thanks for adding it. There's so little on YouTube of the golden era of the diesels. If this was 1993 then 011 was at the end of its working life. The last 001 'A class' was withdrawn in 1994 if memory serves me right. Well done for posting this. Have you any more like this?

  • excellent quality

  • Nice vid, I like these Irish engines they sound cool. 5*

  • The Railways over there have so much character and you've captured it brilliantly Warren...Thanks...Bob

  • Thanks again Bob

    Cheers Warren
