Stalin organized the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact which said that there wouldnt be any aggression between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, Stalin was genuinly afraid of the Nazi's and would never attack them. Second of all, there are no "Russian gulags". There were gulags during a short period of soviet history that were created by Stalin (who was Georgian). The gulags were removed along with Stalin's other policies by Khrushchev (who WAS Russian) upon Stalin's death.

Khrushchev was Ukrainian. GULAG's are work-camps, which still exist (not only in Russia, but in most countries in the world, including USA). The people in Russia during Communism were also no better than during the days when the Czar had control. Krav Maga is all about self defense. Combat Sambo is as well just different flavor. As far as BJJ vs Sambo. BJJ is based off of Judo and has added wrestling to its list of moves. Not much at all of stand up, so Dan Carmillo says. Sambo(combat) has been war tested and then evolved even more afterwards. Wiki, bjj and sambo to find out more on your own.

The stand-up aspect is similar to Judo, as far as I can tell (grabs and throws), but I never understood how that shit could translate to self defense.
