I am from Los Angeles, and had to give up my Blackberry when I moved to NZ. I was on Verizon and paid about 150 USD a month for Unlimited EVERYTHING. The phone cost about just the same. I liked Verizon so I couldn't get the iPhone, as At&t have it exclusively. When I moved to NZ I was all ready to buy the iPhone. Keep in mind I was there for the ORIGINAL launch of the hefty Revolutionary multi-phone. It was in its day 5-600 USD for the 2g.

Only ONE of the telecommunications companies uses a GSM network capable of running the iPhone the other uses a CDMA network so there is no 'economic competitiveness', I would suggest you do some more research before making such harsh allegations.

I agree, compared to the rest of the world NZ is way to expensive on cellphone and internet plans.

In Germany if you bought a phone worth this much on a contract where you payed an equivalent of $50 a month for 2 years, the phone would easily be free, and you would have a much better deal than a $250 plan here.

we only have 2 cellphone companies here, and that's why they can put the price up so high without losing customers. It's pretty gay.

Just buy a pre paid one from Australia. I think we have them here for like seven hundred and something. Shipping to NZ aint that much extra. I thought they were expensive when they released the prices here. I wasn't gonna be the first to go out and buy one coz I knew the prices were not going to be cheap like apple said. Another thing. I use WiFi on my old Iphone and I defenantly know that I use close to 1GB. If I had 3g I would, without a doubt, use more than that. Thank god I live in Oz.

Here in New Zealand is $979 which is US$732.00 for 8gb and $1129 which is US$844.15 for 16gb and again no one can afford it even that apple has said it will be cheap. Apple price was US$199.00 8Gb and US$299.00 for 16Gb. Oh by the way....it's not just vodafone that sux, telecom isnt any better with their broadband prices and rip off's.

I used to work for vodafone in sales, and they rip people off by dangling the carrot of free phones or cheap phones by signing people onto plans that commit you to monthly payments with 1 - 3 year terms...

Iam from Aucks , with only 2 mobile phone providers in NZ competing with each other and with only one network (vodafone) currently being the only provider capable of using the phone on its network, (as telecom are still currently in the process of switching to a 3G network.) then of course it is going to be a rip off. Not to mention we have approx 4 million people compared to other countries our economy is tiny.
