I'm not sure you understood what he's endorsing. He's urging people to vote, as in the action of voting. He's not trying to convince anyone who to vote for. There's a big difference in that.

The process of voting is of great importance, many people have lost their lives in the past so that you can have the right (that we're all so blasé about) to speak your mind and make your opinions count through voting.
