I think their relationship changed after Gibbs went to Mexico. Tony had to keep things from Gibbs during the Frog assignment and the way Gibbs just came back and didn't thank Tony for keeping the team together was kind of wrong. I hope they get their relationship back on track this season.

He took off without giving any notice that he was leaving. That was wrong. Not only did Tony have to step up and take the lead, he had to pick up the pieces of a devestated team. And then Gibbs just shows up and starts being boss again - without any notice. He throws Tony's stuff back on his old desk and acts as though he never left. He owed Tony a thank you for keeping the team together when he was too out of his head with grief/anger to do so.

@keydazy Just like Gibbs will always be a probie to Mike Franks, the same can be said about the relationship between Tony being probie to Gibbs. Tony didn't have any choice but to take over because that is his job as team leader and he understood that... Gibbs also technically never retired because the paperwork was never fully filed thanks to Director Shephard. Either way, Gibb's number one priority has been to put his team first and has never asked for a thank you because it's part of his job.

Amber 474, Gibbs definitely has changed....the writers have been straying from character for a while now. Although I still love him, Gibbs is distant from his team (except for Ducky and Abby), especially Tony which is so wrong. However, maybe this comes from how hurt he was when Vance pulled the team apart. Maybe he's afraid to get close again, although this season he seems to be making more of an effort.

Yeah, you may be right when you say Gibbs fears getting close again. After that separation fiasco, nothing was the same.

I also think Gibbs is only capable of showing a softer side around Ducky, Abby and now Ziva. Poor Tony - I think he should meet a better father figure ^_^ Like Jack, from Stargate SG-1, lol - now THAT would be awesome.

Yeah, I think he is. I loved it when these two were so close. They've kinda strayed away from that but seem to be getting back on track this season. Keeping fingers crossed since that is one of the biggest reasons I was NCIS. Loved how Tony took his protective face gear off after Gibbs tossed his to the side. Tony is always trying to be like Gibbs. And Gibbs smile was one of a father amused at his son's actions before getting serious. Loved that scene...one of my favorites.

Amber474, I thought I was the only one that noticed that Gibbs used to call him Tony. I think most NCIS fans miss their closeness. I had just mentioned how I wanted to see some of Tony's background and bam! RW set to appear. I hope there are some tense scenes between him and Gibbs on Tony's behalf. Ralph Waite is coming back as Jack for the Christmas eppy, I think. I want to see more scenes with Tony & Jack since Tony wants to know so much about Gibbs. Just hope the writers do a good job
