Spyro Gyra are Jazz Fusion - Martin Cockerham (vocals/guitar) and Mark Francis originally formed Spirogyra as a duo in Bolton, Lancashire in the summer of 1967, not to be confused with a similarly-named 1980s American jazz group - Mikael says that they are English not American before he names them
He likes Tool and Nevermore I also saw in an interview from 2005 where he said he was listening to Nile "Anihilation of the Wicked" not a mainstream band, but a band from today. I seen many times where he speaks against the Nu-Metal and Metalcore trends.

Every once in a while mikael expresses himself through his brow that comes off as really intelligent to me.
