I think Pet Sounds is better than Rubber Soul, but Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, and Abbey Road are all better than Pet Sounds (in my opinion) It's obvious The Beatles win in terms of commercial and critical success, but who cares? They are both amazing.
"Brian Wilson had a nervous collapse. What broke his heart was Sgt. Pepper."
Pets Sounds is great, but Rubber Soul is miles better. Not a knock on the Beach Boys, just shows you how amazing the Beatles were. Rubber Soul was them in their prime, my favorite album, and probably the most influential and important rock album of all time.

On the Sessions box set, there's an alternate version of this with Brian on lead vocals and and also a version of I'm Waiting For the Day with Mike on lead vocals. Very interesting to hear, since both guys' singing styles were so different. The right choice was made in the end, but I have to say of the two alternate versions, I like Mike's Waiting for The Day better.
I always envisioned the middle instrumental part of this song as like a chase scene in a movie, and it's dark outside. And the notes from the organ are like the crickets chirping at night. Brian Wilson--the "Albert Einstein of modern pop music".

@Uzzie101 I agree. I think Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. It is definitely in my top 5. Although my favorite Beatles album is The White Album (rubber soul is up there as tied for number 3 with revolver, following Let it Be)

This album is revolutionary. The album was released in '66 and composed in '65. If you listen to "Let Him Run Wild" ('65) you get a idea of what's to come. Way ahead of it's time! Brian Wilson is a genius. "Pet Sounds" may have been an answer to "Rubber Soul" but it was an inspiration for everything that followed.
It's so hard to pick my favorite song off of this album because every song is just so damn good. But if I had to choose it's between here today, sloop john b and I know there''s an answer.
quest'album è migliore di qualsiasi album dei beatles e brian wilson era nettamente superiore a mc cartney e a lennon... basta sentire solo una canzone di pet sound per accorgersene...
@junipree In some ways it is more dated than Rubber Soul. But in many ways it's more modern. You're just focusing on the "dated" stuff and not noticing the innovation.
@junipree Yeah, eclectic instrumentation doesn't have shit on "Run For Your Life", "Drive My Car", etc. And I mean using a Sitar has nothing on the amount of instruments used in this album, despite the Kinks doing it first and all.
One to compare the Beach Boys to the Beatles is that Paul McCartney was constantly monitoring what the Boys (esp. Brian) were doing in hopes of staying competitive creatively. He admits that Sgt Pepper was in large part an effort to outdo "Pet Sounds." They were simply the most creative bands of their respective countries, although Johnny Carson, in his ignorance, once introduced the Monkees on his show as the closest thing American had to the Beatles.
@dsjump Agreed. Even though Pepper outsold the shit out of Pet Sounds, this is constantly cited as a raw material record for artists. Any musician today can use this as a starting point and make number one records from it.
This has to be one of the songs that influenced The Coral. It certainly has there sound. Thank god i finally found Pet Sounds, must have listened to it 10 times last week. But the big question is: Is it better than Revolver? Tough one.
Somethings you simply can grab hold of because it is Lidquid sending many of millions of people in all hemispheres running to jump into a VAST realm of WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!and there is room for so Oh so many to DUNK and DIVE into Folks!
No one will ~ever have to worry about anything intrigue could do much less any entity that could lead children astray by Gossip and Lies. People eventually discover the fire alreay consumed year ago the people who were here once are no longer. You can sweep now.
The Beatles and Beach Boys were both hugely influential bands and by anyone's standards their musical legacies are incredible. So which one is better? That one's easy -- it's whichever group you think is better. It's all a matter of personal preference.
Mike had told Brian not to mess with the "formula" of "fun in the sun" type songs. However by '66 the listening public saw this brand of music as passe, and Brian knew it was time to move on. The Beatles were not looking back either. I like all phases of both bands, but there was way too much creative energy for them to repeat the same old stuff. It was Maharishi Mike who put the Beach Boys into a tailspin. With a level of support there was no stopping Brian, but misplaced greed took over.
The Beach Boys are really camp.......... I mean really camp. And annoyingly American, I mean I like American people, but not these annoying ones. This is proof that The Beatles are better.
@dorkhunter1 which are the four beach boys records you consider the best? cause im a new fan and checked out this one cause it gets very high ratings and influenced some bands i like, and i love it. it grows on me everyday.. it feels like i cant get enough of the songs
I prefer Paul mccartney's here today but hr I'd my favourite artist & fav beatle so it's no surprise but don't get me wrong, this is a good song & pet sounds is such an amazing album it was pet sounds that inspired the beatles to write sgt peppers....thank you Brian Wilson
@sonictrasher you discover new lawyers the beach boys had a lot of problems with lawyers only kidding mikes vocal is great and the bachground vocals are very dense who played sax was it steve douglas the organ solo at 2:14 is very interesting
I really don`t get all the praise this album gets. Yes it`s got a few good songs, but the rest sound pretty damn ordinary like this one. WTF is so great about this song? It sounds like a commercial for Toys R us or something. "Come on gang! 50% off all toys! Yippee!"
The reason this album gets all sorts of recognition is simple...this was the first album in pop music to use instruments other than the conventional two guitars, bass, and drums, keyboards, and all. Psychedelic rock was just coming out here. This album included harpsicords, horns, multiple basses, strings, percussion, and AMAZING harmonies that were all wrapped up in a Phl Spector-type 'wall of sound.' Everything in pop music truly followed everything this album originated.
@JamesTKirkCobain I'm sorry... but I think that's down to your lack of musical ear. Listent to the instrumental version, without the vocals... that'll make it clearer.
Even if Wouldn't It Be Nice and God Only Knows weren't on this album it would still be the best album ever made. That's how amazing this album was and this song proves it.
I was 17 when this came out, awesome album, every song is great....one of my favorite albums of all time - tied with the kinks "We Are The Village Green Preservation Society" 1968.....the most underrated album in the history of rock.
old major22 - Do you know Celine? Not a fan at all. But I know her and her husband and they are the most kind and generous people. To manage to become one of the most popular artist on the planet is an incredible achievement.
He was broke when he took her and she came from a family of 14 children. There is no reason to say such things. BTW, I am a classic rock fan and Celine's music means nothing to me. But I do respect her. Peter- Montreal, Canada
Smile was mostly destryoyed after it was recorded because Brian Wilson had a breakdown and destroyed all the tapes... and Good Vibrations was the song that survived... so they put it on a different album. They did not re-record it because they felt it woudnt be the same.
This is different of "Rubber Soul" & "Sgt. Peppers" in many ways but I think what The Beach Boys was trying to say in "Pet Sounds", John said in only one song. You can feel this dreamy British bourgeoisie environment in the songs. John did it all in "Strawberry Fields Forever" and is so true that, if you visit Wikipedia, you see that "Smile" wasn't completed because Wilson couldn't compete with John anymore.
Beauty is: while one needs an entire album to express himself, other needs just a song.
@menoziinrevoltado I'm not sure that's exactly how things went. Smile was canceled before Strawberry Fields Forever was released to the public, and Brian's competition with the Beatles was not the only factor that led to its cancellation: Brian's mental illness, Mike's disapproval of Smile, and pressure from Capitol after Pet Sounds didn't sell well were also factors. Also, the Beatle who competed with Brian more was Paul, who admitted that "God Only Knows" was the best song he'd ever heard.
Surely, there was a McCartney versus Wilson thing going on but all I was trying to say is: the beauty of making music is that, some people need an album to express a generation, a feeling, a thought or both. Others just need one song, which happened on "Strawberry Fields Forever". The non-sense, the British pastoral and cold ambiance, everything. John made it and the song, according to Wikipedia, made Brian feel down with his attempts, competition and band, which couldn't compete anymore.
@DoGeeseSeeGod24 Smile was mostly destryoyed after it was recorded because Brian Wilson had a breakdown and destroyed all the tapes... and Good Vibrations was the song that survived... so they put it on a different album. They did not re-record it because they felt it woudnt be the same.
@PeepTheZoobaz Good Vibrations was released to the public and became a number one hit single long before the Smile recording sessions even began. It's true that Brian destroyed some of the original recordings, such as the "Fire" section of the elements suite, but that was far from the only reason that Smile was cancelled. For one, the other Beach Boys (minus Dennis) did not like Smile.
@DoGeeseSeeGod24 thats a shame.... i always thought it was just because he destryoed the tapes.. i thoght smile was suppose to be their biggest and best album.. didnt know the rest of them didnt like it.
I guess it makes sense, because Brian Wilson released a re-recorded version of it just a few years ago.
@PeepTheZoobaz To be fair, I'm not sure what Al and Carl felt about it. I know Dennis was really supportive of it, and I know that Mike was very opposed to it and made his opinions heard, to the point of actually causing Van Dyke Parks to quit out of anger before the project was finished. Then there was also Brian's mental issues and the fact that he was trying to compete with the Beatles, who had three men doing what he did alone. It worked out in the end though; Brian's Smile is incredible.
@menoziinrevoltado Smile was mostly destryoyed after it was recorded because Brian Wilson had a breakdown and destroyed all the tapes... and Good Vibrations was the song that survived... so they put it on a different album. They did not re-record it because they felt it woudnt be the same.
By the way, if you look over to the right side of the screen & see "Paul Mccartney/John Lennon-Here Today", It is not them doing a cover of this song. It's a diierent song, ont that Paul McCartney wrote about John Lennon after ha was shot. It's a good song also.
Does anyone else find it odd that on the album that Paul McCartney played nonstop in the studio the summer of 66, there is THIS song called Here Today? The title of Paul's tribute to John? Makes you wonder. Pet Sounds is still one of Paul's top favorite albums of all time. He couldn't have been unaware of the identical titles.
Why do we keep comparing the 2 groups? The Beach Boys were the American Beatles and vice versa. They were BOTH at the top of their trees in their respective countries. Their music will be remembered for the brilliance it was. Both groups' music has lived on much longer than others, because it was unique to each group.
@Helen25243 Exactly. And there was mutual respect. This is the album that Paul played nonstop in the studio that summer, and inspired him to use "clean sounds" on Penny Lane. Paul was a total fanboy. ^_^
I love the beach boys and the beatles, the good thing about getting into the beach boys is that unless your a fan people only know a few percent of their songs, but the beatles back catalogue is played anywhere and everywhere, to first hear some of the beach boys unknown gems is one of the most rewarding musical experiences you could ask for.
It starts with just a little glance now Right away you're thinkin' 'bout romance now You know you ought to take it slower But you just can't wait to get to know her A brand new love affair is such a beautiful thing But if you're not careful think about the pain it can bring It makes you feel so bad It makes your heart feel sad It makes your days go wrong It makes your nights so long You've got to keep in mind love is here today And tomorrow it's gone. beautiful lyrics!
This song really captures lust, teenager lust and a kind of lonley sadness in weird way- Brian Wilson was a great composer- and it's a shame he lost it.
I honestly don't understand the need to compare the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Both groups are awesome in their own unique ways...and I have respect for both, but I have to admit I tend to listen to a lot more Beach Boys than Beatles.
paul mccartney himself has stated that pet sounds had a huge impact on the production of sgt peppers, and praises "god only knows" as his favorite song ever. i think that mccartney putting this album and its tracks above his own masterpiece speaks for itself. brian wilson did it first, and brian wilson did it best. sorry.
@keddw ...but there is a comparison... no one in the beatles had the ear that brian did... the beatles knew it. Granted, the beatles wrote some amazing songs and their career lasted much longer than the beach boys.
I like the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson is a special talent but the Beatles were in a league of their own, as Ian McDonald said in his book 'Revolution in the head',. Beach Boys were great at harmonies but less good at other aspects of creating like writing lyrics. The Beatles had it all and changed the world. They were able to evolve and innovate over a much longer period.
But the Beach Boys had Brian, who was a member of the band and also the producer. He wrote the songs, arranged and sang them. I think the personally effort was bigger. George Martin wasn't a bandmember. He was a genius too, but Brian Wilson was "the man".
As everyone knows, Brian has credited the Beatles for pushing him to make the excellent Pet Sounds, after he first heard Rubber Soul. but then they came up with Revolver, Sgt Pepper etc. I'm afraid Brian and the Beach Boys couldn't come up with anything as good. . As for George Martin he was a facilitator not a songwriter/originator. Give credit to where it is due.
Pet Sounds is an album which triggerred Paul Mc Cartney to make Sgt Pepper..And the Song on the BeachBoys Album Pet Sounds ---God Only Knows triggrered many to make love...
69MC97gc is correct. When the Beach Boys came out with Pet Sounds it was THE album everybody tried to get close to matching. Paul McCartney has said that the Sgt. Pepper Album was an attempt to make something just as good - check out the documentary The Wrecking Crew if you don't believe me
@KiraSachi I do believe Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper The White Album and Abbey Rd are all better than anything the Beach Boys ever did. However I do love the Beach Boys and respect what they did.
Never. The Beatles record career ended 1970. The Beach Boys were a powerwul force in the 70's. One of the best live bands ever. They made great albums (Sunflower, Surf's Up, etc.). When Carl died, that was the end of the "real" Beach Boys. That was 1998. Which one lasted longer?
@kingofpecos I guess I just don't even think of the beach boys as the beach boys without Brian... They had hits without brian, but they weren't the same band.
But Brian was still part of the band (in 1970 he toured with the guys for a few days). He wrote songs for "Sunflower", "Surf's Up", "So Tough" and "Holland". He was (sometimes) in the studio, sang some songs. His "bed-time" reached its top from 1973 to 1975. After that he came back, wrote, produced and sang songs, played live . He was never anything else than a Beach Boy, in his whole life. He never gave up. In 1982, the guys fired him. But as a band the Beach Boys still existed. That's a fact.
Haha... obviously you know much more about the history than I do... so I'm beat there. Having said that though, there were lots of tracks that brian didn't sing on, or write, which, in my opinion, weren't great songs... even though they did have some success. However wrong I am, Pet sounds was the beginning and the end for me... God only knows was years before my time and it still gives me goosebumps.
I think the image of Paul playing this album nonstop in the studio is adorable. xD Everyone must have been so annoyed. I love Paul, and his fanboyish tendencies! ^_^
No way someone can say this record is better than Sgt Peppers - no way. A fan of Black Sabbath would also have to agree that Sabbath Bloody Sabbath blow this record out of the water. Granted it was pioneering in recording, and I do appreciate Beach Boys vocal arrangements, and certain songs are brilliant, but this is not one of them. Also putting this record number one above Hendrix, Who's Next, or Let It Bleed is unmitigated liquid acid flashbacks talking.
I never got the fascination with Sgt. Peppers. The album truly bored me to tears and still does.
I wasn't overly impressed with Pet Sounds when i first heard it, but after a few listens it really clicked and now i understand why many people regard it as one of the greatest albums of all time.
This piece is proof of that. Simply amazing arrangements.
I guess you don't love the fusion of pop with baroque style. Or maybe you expected a little different mix of that style. Procol Harum, Moody Blues, The Zombies, and Love also did well to combine these styles but owe it to Pet Sounds from Brian Wilson for the inspiration to think outside the box.
There are great songs on Sgt. Peppers, but i personally feel Wilson and Co. did it better with Pet Sounds. I can't stop listening to it. I put Peppers on the shelf a while ago. If i want a masterpiece from the Beatles, i'll take Abbey Road. That album never gets old, and there isn't a single skippable track, imo.
I like Pet Sounds but I think music is subjective so I don't understand the arguing who's better thing. Having said that, I think for me I find where The Beatles were far more diverse in their use of different sounds and recording techniques, where the Beach Boys seem to rinse and repeat a lot. That's not to say Brian's arrangements weren't great, just for me a "too many times to the well" kind of thing. Also some of the bridges on these songs are very "clunky" Just my opinion.
I agree with you but this album is different than anything The Beatles released the closet thing The Beatles that can compare to this is Revolver. I am not saying Pet Sounds is better. I enjoy The Beatles more than the Beach Boys for the most part, but this album is just a masterpiece.
Sgt Pepper I think is better than Pet Sounds and is a masterpiece. Revolver is great to for different reasons but Sgt Pepper was groundbreaking. I love it. Great time in music.
I agree but the songs off of Pet Sounds are so truthful. I can actually relate to the lyrics. This song in particular is one of the most honest truthful songs that most people probably have experience exactly what they are talking about in the song. Love is here today tommorow it's gone.
well you guys talk like you know what your talking about. But I think I will go with Paul McCartney's opinion when he heard Pet Sounds he said "What can we do to compete with this" and it is credited with inspiring them to create Sgt Peppers.
The cough is from a conversation brian and the guys are having about a nikon camera. If you put on headphones and listen, you will hear it. It's a funny mistake. It was removed for the remastered stereo tracks a few years ago.
I'm reluctant to feed into pointless "this band is better than that band" discussion, but for what it is worth I generally like The Beatles more than The Beach Boys, but I think Pet Sounds is the best album produced by either of them. I've always found Sgt Pepper to be a bit of a damp squib, and I think Revolver is The Beatles best.
Here Today is one of the best tracks on Pet Sounds but I like And Your Bird can Sing or For No-one better.
The Beach Boys/ Beatles rivalry in the 60s proved to be one of the best things that ever happened to the face of rock music. Both bands influenced each others music, and both bands Magnum Opus records (Pet Sounds/Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band) were both some of the most genre-influencing rock albums ever created.
It is an album filled with madness, obsession and depression which is greatly controversial to the upbeat tunes and lyrics for some of their songs on this album and off this album.
This particular song is brilliant in the way it is depressing but not slow like a depressing song normally would be. This song is about finding the right girl and finding out she is a cheating whore who is going to stab you in the back.
1:46 to 2:25 is a fucking eargasm! and guys this is an amazing album and it might not be matched by sgt pepper but definetly abbey road or rubber soul or revolver match it and could surpass it. and the Beatles over all surpass the beach boys. it was 2 geniuses vs 1.

This has to be one of the songs that influenced The Coral. It certainly has there sound. Thank god i finally found Pet Sounds, must have listened to it 10 times last week. But the big question is: Is it better than Revolver? Tough one.

@jamcam80s That is a tough one. Overall I prefer Revolver, but Pet Sounds is close behind.

The Beatles and Beach Boys were both hugely influential bands and by anyone's standards their musical legacies are incredible. So which one is better? That one's easy -- it's whichever group you think is better. It's all a matter of personal preference.
Stephanjnj 1 year ago 5

I really don`t get all the praise this album gets. Yes it`s got a few good songs, but the rest sound pretty damn ordinary like this one. WTF is so great about this song? It sounds like a commercial for Toys R us or something. "Come on gang! 50% off all toys! Yippee!"
JamesTKirkCobain 1 year ago
The reason this album gets all sorts of recognition is simple...this was the first album in pop music to use instruments other than the conventional two guitars, bass, and drums, keyboards, and all. Psychedelic rock was just coming out here. This album included harpsicords, horns, multiple basses, strings, percussion, and AMAZING harmonies that were all wrapped up in a Phl Spector-type 'wall of sound.' Everything in pop music truly followed everything this album originated.
drummerboyjac 1 year ago 6
@JamesTKirkCobain I'm sorry... but I think that's down to your lack of musical ear. Listent to the instrumental version, without the vocals... that'll make it clearer.

Smile was mostly destryoyed after it was recorded because Brian Wilson had a breakdown and destroyed all the tapes... and Good Vibrations was the song that survived... so they put it on a different album. They did not re-record it because they felt it woudnt be the same.
PeepTheZoobaz 1 year ago
This is different of "Rubber Soul" & "Sgt. Peppers" in many ways but I think what The Beach Boys was trying to say in "Pet Sounds", John said in only one song. You can feel this dreamy British bourgeoisie environment in the songs. John did it all in "Strawberry Fields Forever" and is so true that, if you visit Wikipedia, you see that "Smile" wasn't completed because Wilson couldn't compete with John anymore.
Beauty is: while one needs an entire album to express himself, other needs just a song.
menoziinrevoltado 1 year ago
@menoziinrevoltado I'm not sure that's exactly how things went. Smile was canceled before Strawberry Fields Forever was released to the public, and Brian's competition with the Beatles was not the only factor that led to its cancellation: Brian's mental illness, Mike's disapproval of Smile, and pressure from Capitol after Pet Sounds didn't sell well were also factors. Also, the Beatle who competed with Brian more was Paul, who admitted that "God Only Knows" was the best song he'd ever heard.
DoGeeseSeeGod24 1 year ago
Surely, there was a McCartney versus Wilson thing going on but all I was trying to say is: the beauty of making music is that, some people need an album to express a generation, a feeling, a thought or both. Others just need one song, which happened on "Strawberry Fields Forever". The non-sense, the British pastoral and cold ambiance, everything. John made it and the song, according to Wikipedia, made Brian feel down with his attempts, competition and band, which couldn't compete anymore.
menoziinrevoltado 1 year ago

PeepTheZoobaz 1 year ago
@PeepTheZoobaz Good Vibrations was released to the public and became a number one hit single long before the Smile recording sessions even began. It's true that Brian destroyed some of the original recordings, such as the "Fire" section of the elements suite, but that was far from the only reason that Smile was cancelled. For one, the other Beach Boys (minus Dennis) did not like Smile.
DoGeeseSeeGod24 1 year ago
@DoGeeseSeeGod24 thats a shame.... i always thought it was just because he destryoed the tapes.. i thoght smile was suppose to be their biggest and best album.. didnt know the rest of them didnt like it.
I guess it makes sense, because Brian Wilson released a re-recorded version of it just a few years ago.
PeepTheZoobaz 1 year ago
@PeepTheZoobaz To be fair, I'm not sure what Al and Carl felt about it. I know Dennis was really supportive of it, and I know that Mike was very opposed to it and made his opinions heard, to the point of actually causing Van Dyke Parks to quit out of anger before the project was finished. Then there was also Brian's mental issues and the fact that he was trying to compete with the Beatles, who had three men doing what he did alone. It worked out in the end though; Brian's Smile is incredible.
DoGeeseSeeGod24 1 year ago
@menoziinrevoltado I do not agree to anything.

Helen25243 1 year ago
Does anyone else find it odd that on the album that Paul McCartney played nonstop in the studio the summer of 66, there is THIS song called Here Today? The title of Paul's tribute to John? Makes you wonder. Pet Sounds is still one of Paul's top favorite albums of all time. He couldn't have been unaware of the identical titles.
baretoedgirl 1 year ago
Why do we keep comparing the 2 groups? The Beach Boys were the American Beatles and vice versa. They were BOTH at the top of their trees in their respective countries. Their music will be remembered for the brilliance it was. Both groups' music has lived on much longer than others, because it was unique to each group.
Helen25243 1 year ago
@Helen25243 Exactly. And there was mutual respect. This is the album that Paul played nonstop in the studio that summer, and inspired him to use "clean sounds" on Penny Lane. Paul was a total fanboy. ^_^

Beatles are head and shoulders above the Beach Boys. There is no comparison
keddw 2 years ago
@keddw ...but there is a comparison... no one in the beatles had the ear that brian did... the beatles knew it. Granted, the beatles wrote some amazing songs and their career lasted much longer than the beach boys.
first4the2nd 2 years ago
I like the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson is a special talent but the Beatles were in a league of their own, as Ian McDonald said in his book 'Revolution in the head',. Beach Boys were great at harmonies but less good at other aspects of creating like writing lyrics. The Beatles had it all and changed the world. They were able to evolve and innovate over a much longer period.
keddw 2 years ago
But the Beach Boys had Brian, who was a member of the band and also the producer. He wrote the songs, arranged and sang them. I think the personally effort was bigger. George Martin wasn't a bandmember. He was a genius too, but Brian Wilson was "the man".
kingofpecos 2 years ago 3
As everyone knows, Brian has credited the Beatles for pushing him to make the excellent Pet Sounds, after he first heard Rubber Soul. but then they came up with Revolver, Sgt Pepper etc. I'm afraid Brian and the Beach Boys couldn't come up with anything as good. . As for George Martin he was a facilitator not a songwriter/originator. Give credit to where it is due.

Never. The Beatles record career ended 1970. The Beach Boys were a powerwul force in the 70's. One of the best live bands ever. They made great albums (Sunflower, Surf's Up, etc.). When Carl died, that was the end of the "real" Beach Boys. That was 1998. Which one lasted longer?
kingofpecos 2 years ago 2
@kingofpecos I guess I just don't even think of the beach boys as the beach boys without Brian... They had hits without brian, but they weren't the same band.
first4the2nd 2 years ago
But Brian was still part of the band (in 1970 he toured with the guys for a few days). He wrote songs for "Sunflower", "Surf's Up", "So Tough" and "Holland". He was (sometimes) in the studio, sang some songs. His "bed-time" reached its top from 1973 to 1975. After that he came back, wrote, produced and sang songs, played live . He was never anything else than a Beach Boy, in his whole life. He never gave up. In 1982, the guys fired him. But as a band the Beach Boys still existed. That's a fact.
kingofpecos 2 years ago
Haha... obviously you know much more about the history than I do... so I'm beat there. Having said that though, there were lots of tracks that brian didn't sing on, or write, which, in my opinion, weren't great songs... even though they did have some success. However wrong I am, Pet sounds was the beginning and the end for me... God only knows was years before my time and it still gives me goosebumps.

SabbraCadabra 2 years ago
I guess you don't love the fusion of pop with baroque style. Or maybe you expected a little different mix of that style. Procol Harum, Moody Blues, The Zombies, and Love also did well to combine these styles but owe it to Pet Sounds from Brian Wilson for the inspiration to think outside the box.
mavsfan1000 2 years ago

Also some of the bridges on these songs are very "clunky" Just my opinion.
okltsply 2 years ago

Pet sounds is one of the best albums ever written
It is an album filled with madness, obsession and depression which is greatly controversial to the upbeat tunes and lyrics for some of their songs on this album and off this album.
This particular song is brilliant in the way it is depressing but not slow like a depressing song normally would be. This song is about finding the right girl and finding out she is a cheating whore who is going to stab you in the back.
