"faith is the denial of observation" Lol...I thought he was doing ok until that point....to mix all explanations of afterlife into one "bullshit" pool can't work...nice guy, got some good points, but rather dim at the end of the day
No it is not "the denial of observation" ! Religion is based on observation, hence the many religious reforms, another good point is Saint Thomas d'Aquitaine, who through observation lead the Church to leaps and bounds. Religion at it's core is based on the observation of life, and the questioning of its meaning. Faith can work hand in hand with science. And yes ! I am Catholic =p I'm guessing you must tend towards atheism ? ;D
@vivelafrance90 He is talking about the beliefs its self not the organisation as a whole! Science has told people how the earth was created through research and very complex experiments but even after all that, Your view is still that heaven and earth was created by GOD. Now if you could prove without any doubt that this is true I would change my mind! You on the other hand even though science has proven that evolution is infact FACT people in the religious cirlces refuse to believe it!
Again, I don't understand how what you are saying about science and research can't be married with the Catholic Church and its beliefs, I don't dispute science, in fact I find it amazing ! It can show through study many complex things and offers theories for how the world started which can blow the mind. You can accept scientific research and religion. Science explains how, religion explains why. So again, no denial ;D
@vivelafrance90 Religion and science are about 10 billions years apart in when they think the earth first came into being! So no they done explain why! Sciene (me) think the earth was formed 14 billion yrs ago and religion (you) thinks it was 4.5 Billion yrs! How is that being on a level playing field??? Religion and science believe 2 different things and if you think other wise your either stupid or just talking crap!
oh boy...Are you from the US ? Some people (Jehovah witnesses) believe the world is something like 6500 years old...Most of the scientific community believe the world is 4,5 billion years old +-....But even if it were made 14 billion years ago it changes little, the Bible uses symbology, you musn't take it literally, no the world was not 'made' in 7 days, but it was made (science proves that), only difference between you and me is I think that God made it ;D
@vivelafrance90 No I am not from the US.....I agree with science!!! I have been trying to make the point that you mention in your last sentence!!! i believe a chemical reaction (simple terms) made the universe as a whole and you believe that god made it. That is the denial! And this is why I hardly ever like talking to religious people about evolution and the big bang etc! Its turns into a fairy tale!
I believe in a chemical reaction too ! (simple terms) Only I think the chemical reaction was caused by God. Catholicism is not so fundamentalist, you must stop talking to evangelicals or Jehovah witnesses, they are too literal in their understanding of the Bible. Don't get angry because some people believe in different beliefs from you, it's Ok to question your beliefs from time to time, good in fact ! But as I said, i agree with you explanation of how the world was made ;D
The view that Tim Minchim presents is the view of a pseudo intellectual who thinks a bit, but does very little research, his wish to attack all those with a religion is proof to his insecurity. People who like him are people who clearly lack strong role models and have to seek videos on youtube to comfort their uneducated life !
@vivelafrance90 Firstly it's *you're, nice education. Secondly, I have a degree in Psychology so try that on for size. Thirdly, I think you're the uneducated one throwing your wild opinions round at people who dare challenge them with facts. MY beliefs are based purely on what I myself observe, via science. I do not lack strong models, and people like Richard Dawkins have guided me very well into forming secure and strong morals about the world. Not just being reactionary and insecure like you.
Right, sorry about the mistake, I'm French, so I hope you can appreciate that fact. I have a degree in political science. But I am afraid having a degree doesn't qualify you to pass theological arguments, unless you made some research in that subject. your "you think" comment was so immature it made me blurt out that comment. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I get impatient with middle class people who think they can voice their opinions having done little or no real research !
@vivelafrance90 "Middle class people" can't have opinions because what? They can't afford college? Where do you think people became learned before colleges existed? I care not if you're French, or what piece of paper says you're better than I am. Knowledge, research, and understanding comes from experience and enlightenment that hardly, if ever, comes from any institution, college, church, or otherwise.
@vivelafrance90 The fact that science adjusts its theories based on what it observes (exactly the way he says it) and religion just sticks to the same words for thousands of years proves that faith is ignorant enough to ignore everything else. the fact that we're still struggling to legalize gay marriage strictly due to the bible, shows the ignorance that faith has bred
Gays help in no way evolution, why is it good to be gay ? Being gay is a sickness just like any other but not visible ! As for your comments about science, rather stupid, as science bases itself on observations on how the world works and religion is based on the meaning of life.
Haha, ok I won't bother with you any more, clearly you have a different view of what life is all about, don't bother commenting any more cuz I won't bother reading your comments... Take care ;D
@ThisMuslimah Yes, because anything that is complex is not natural. Anything as complex as a big hunk of rock and magma is obviously thought up by some man-made, omnipotent being. Think about what you are saying before you post it.
'complex, etc. world?' How do you think it was made? By a big bang? Surely SOMEONE must have created it for it to be well DESIGNED & COMPLEX? These things he's said seems to be pointing more towards Christianity ('santa claus', etc...) & I am not one fyi. I don't believe in Psychics either. Plus, this world CAN'T be enough. Yeah it's alright for him to say all that, but what about the poor, the sick, etc, where's THEIR CHANCE? Think about it. His creativeness should be put in to better use. :) x

what happend to goddamned youtoube? every fucking time i open a vid i first have to watch stupid and boring commercials...why? will youtube bust if they dont do it? fuck google!
@CyberWallX Annoying as it is, advertisements keep youtube free. Running youtube requires money, and it has to come from somewhere. Can't get something for nothing.
@Eilsring That's not the point, YouTube was running just fine without commercials all the time. It's due to the fact that those who run YouTube want money not this illusion that they need it. Shit the only reason they would need money is for something like censoring, or changing the colour of their little buttons. A bunch of bullshit that is...nonessential and invariably antagonistic to any dignified soul present.
@Omnilegence Actually, servers cost money. And youtube requires a LOT of servers to run and keep up with the amount of videos coming in. So far youtube has actually been a giant sink hole for google, they have yet to turn a profit.
@Eilsring Well yeah I know servers cost money, and no one could contest that there are a lot of servers that need to be run but I still don't see why it has to be the big corporations with their usual attitude of "Let's all go that step beyond annoying into brainwashing". Could it not have been donations from the users? Or from someone rich who likes the service? Corporations have no manners, are never content without first attempting you hound you even further and flat out don't give a shit.
@Eilsring know what u mean, but i remember a time without videos as commercial... i mean cant it be enough to put some links near to the sidebar? google is so damn rich, i think they could survive without this shit...
The claim that scientific minded people or atheists have faith like fundamentalists has to be one of the most annoying things for such people. It's too much effort to explain to everyone how wrong they are so I just take the humorous side of their ignorance in most cases.
"But you're just close-minded..." <~ Obviously Storm hasn't heard Tim's work of 'If you open your mind too much, your brain will fall out (take my wife)' yet...
@jchapman1994 Everyone on the internet is top of their class these days. I'm top of my class too! Has anyone ever met a christian that is top of their class? I hear about them on the internet all the time, never even seen one from a distance in the real world.
Taking into account your grammar and the fact that you chose to defend you intelligence with unsupported assertion and not logical argument, I call bullshit.
Isn't it a bit early in the year to be looking at Unis anyway?
@Omnilegence really now your gonna try to start an argument with me?? Also, i did not put anything offensive or make any grammatical errors, so why don't you try to troll someone else retard.
Also if you don't believe me about my academics, how about i email you my Zangle student info connect for Lincoln Park High School Michigan, so i can laugh at your misconception.
Finally, if you want to try to insult someone on grammar, as if it matters, why don't you check your own first.
@jchapman1994 "[,] and [i] was just commenting to joke on the status [lol], but [i] kind of disagree, because [i] am top of my class, and [i] am looking for [F]ull scholarships to university[']s, yet [i] am still a christian [lol][]
This is me square-bracketing all grammatical slips, however unimportant they may be.
As a spiritually-oriented individual, I can happily say that I agree with many things "Storm" says in this monologue , AND also with what Tim says - especially about nature.
After all - all dualities have one unity behind them :D
Before this video started I got an ad, about asian cooking material... I'm just here to hear a "rock and roll nerd" rant on a hippy again... where is the connection youtube!
These Ads are getting longer and longer. Can someone make another Youtube that's not been bought by a corporation, y'know, like how youtube started? Would appreciate it, thank you! FUCK YOUTUBE
@Kelmire1 1. These ads, however annoying, are what allow sites like Youtube to exist. You could not possibly transmit this much data without being owned by a corporation and having funding either by ads or a subscription fee.
2. If you reeeeeally hate it that much, use Mozilla Firefox with the Adblock Plus addon. No more ads.
It did perfectly well a few years ago, before the introduction of ads. Infact, it was much better without regions being blocked, copyright infringement and, of course; ads.
Oh, I also think this was before the time when youtube was filled with people who couldn't argue their case or point without at least an insult thrown in, although I may be mistaken.
deconstructionism should have limits But that cannot change the fact that alot of knowledge is conext specific to a person's position, beliefs ect. And so we got scientific racism. The existence of any such thing as objectivity is fiercly debated. Whether it matters is another thing all together. Science is not immune to such silly things as myths, frameworks, ideologies ect and the history of science as well as current studies being done screams this fact to us. Citical thinking...change.
The thought that the world is filled with 'Storms' out there make me shudder because these are people who grab onto faith yet cant deal with the real meat that comes with it. Some things are worth our invested faith, other things aren't. You can't jump on board with faith just because you don't understand science. I'm familiar with the arguments she presents, but what are actually decent stretches of philosophical soil, are presented in a weak and very silly manner. Good poem though :)
@shumble32 and @wwetheundertaker you guys are having such a great civilised argument, I just came across from the animated storm video where children are fighting and rasping at each other in the comments section so it's good to see :)
The Costco principle: When you are in Costco you can put anything you want in your shopping cart and walk around the store, and no one cares in the slightest. But when you try to take that sixty-eight inch plasma 3d TV out of the store then the guy at the door is going to ask to see your receipt. If you don't have evidence that you payed for that marvel of modern technology then you aren't taking that TV anywhere without a fight.
Same with my mind. You want to put an idea in my head? Receipt?
There are two sides to reality - the objective (external / physical) and the subjective (internal / mind). The subjective reality cannot currently be 'measured' effectively by science, and therefore, the scientific world view choses to disregard it. Science can at best only provide a partial understanding of reality. There is nothing wrong with having faith in science, but keep an open mind! Otherwise your faith becomes blind-faith, and your science becomes a mere weapon of ego.
*stands and begins raucous applause* This is amazing.

what happend to goddamned youtoube? every fucking time i open a vid i first have to watch stupid and boring commercials...why? will youtube bust if they dont do it? fuck google!
CyberWallX 5 months ago
@CyberWallX Annoying as it is, advertisements keep youtube free. Running youtube requires money, and it has to come from somewhere. Can't get something for nothing.
Eilsring 5 months ago
@Eilsring That's not the point, YouTube was running just fine without commercials all the time. It's due to the fact that those who run YouTube want money not this illusion that they need it. Shit the only reason they would need money is for something like censoring, or changing the colour of their little buttons. A bunch of bullshit that is...nonessential and invariably antagonistic to any dignified soul present.
Omnilegence 5 months ago
@Omnilegence Actually, servers cost money. And youtube requires a LOT of servers to run and keep up with the amount of videos coming in. So far youtube has actually been a giant sink hole for google, they have yet to turn a profit.
Eilsring 5 months ago 2
@Eilsring Well yeah I know servers cost money, and no one could contest that there are a lot of servers that need to be run but I still don't see why it has to be the big corporations with their usual attitude of "Let's all go that step beyond annoying into brainwashing". Could it not have been donations from the users? Or from someone rich who likes the service? Corporations have no manners, are never content without first attempting you hound you even further and flat out don't give a shit.
Omnilegence 5 months ago
@Eilsring know what u mean, but i remember a time without videos as commercial... i mean cant it be enough to put some links near to the sidebar? google is so damn rich, i think they could survive without this shit...

The claim that scientific minded people or atheists have faith like fundamentalists has to be one of the most annoying things for such people. It's too much effort to explain to everyone how wrong they are so I just take the humorous side of their ignorance in most cases.

Omnilegence 4 months ago
@Omnilegence really now your gonna try to start an argument with me?? Also, i did not put anything offensive or make any grammatical errors, so why don't you try to troll someone else retard.
Also if you don't believe me about my academics, how about i email you my Zangle student info connect for Lincoln Park High School Michigan, so i can laugh at your misconception.
Finally, if you want to try to insult someone on grammar, as if it matters, why don't you check your own first.

These Ads are getting longer and longer. Can someone make another Youtube that's not been bought by a corporation, y'know, like how youtube started? Would appreciate it, thank you! FUCK YOUTUBE
Kelmire1 7 months ago
@Kelmire1 1. These ads, however annoying, are what allow sites like Youtube to exist. You could not possibly transmit this much data without being owned by a corporation and having funding either by ads or a subscription fee.
2. If you reeeeeally hate it that much, use Mozilla Firefox with the Adblock Plus addon. No more ads.
KrazyShrink 7 months ago
@KrazyShrink
1. I disagree. That would imply youtube was always like this, which if I recall, it wasn't.
2. I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the info, you might have just saved me some insults and youtube some more of my complaining.
Kelmire1 7 months ago
@Kelmire1 who do you expect to pay for all the hardware and running costs you hippie?
danielgreen1982 7 months ago
@danielgreen1982
