sometimes i watch him play, and i always wonder what exactly is he doing in the left hand on each song. does it has something to do with the Key he is in or what...someone please help.
@TheMimster60 My aunt was on that cruise. She wasn't in there though, she was in the 2nd shift. He was playing and during his song he slumped over. He died from a fatal heart attack. He died playing the piano, and I hope to die that way too.
To Loso3005 Anthony Passed away in 2006 right after a solo. Was on a Gaither Homecoming Cruise. What better way to goe than serving God right to the end of your earthly life!
@PINOYdrifter719 Keep at it, you'll get it. start with the single note melody, add rhythm in the left hand by pressing random notes that correspond with the chord, add a harmony note in the right hand, add one or two moe notes in the right hand. and add one fill at a time.
I love how when he is done with a performance he never gets cocky and saying he did it all, he gives the glory to God... The best piano player ever by far, and the only one I have ever heard that gives the glory to Jesus.
I would agree about the sharing for the most part, the one thing I would change is this. I would share whether I am rewarded or not (of course I am not a good pianist at all yet) but all music whether piano or other is influenced by others styles. That is why when we talk about musicians we look at their influences. Everybody copies others.
I am sure when Anthony Burger graduated from this mortal flesh into the Heavenly realm of Glory, he saw the majestic grand piano made of pure sparkling gold, diamond keys, ruby petals, and perfect tuned chords just awaiting for him when he walked through those glorious pearly gates!! You earned it Anthony !!!!
@ser132 That's correct, he was with the Gaithers on a Cruise Ship and died while playing the piano as they were performing for the people who came on the cruise to see them. I forget which song it was that they were playing, but I have heard it mentioned. I'm just not remembering it at this moment what the song was.
@JavinGrant The classical he did was also "when we all get to heaven", he threw that extra part in there which is heard in some of the great classicals from the past. Anthony Burger actually started out learning classical, but as he heard other types of music, he was able to pick it up with no problem. He's the best I have ever heard because of his ability to play any style, and whatever style he played, it was done correctly. It wasn't a generic sound, it was always true to form.
@JavinGrant I heard that testimony from him on a different show, and I was floored. But this man has inspired me to get better at playing the piano and keyboard also. I can't play like him, but I sure would be happy if I could just get halfway to the point of how he played. First time I saw him play, I said I want to play a piano like that. Just amazing what he could do with those burnt hands.
@TheGospelGhost yeah, same here. I've been playing the piano by ear since i was 3. I've gotten pretty good, but nothing even close to Anthony. i dont think anyone will be able to play as good as him. I have a lot of his songs and videos, and you never he one mistake. What makes him different from other pianist, is that he gets so in to his music. Its almost no wonder he had heart problems.
To find this video, search for Rain Tree Gospel in Google. Not allowing me to post the link here...hmmm.
There are a couple of good training vids here for southern gospel music, and this is one of the multi-artist videos showing different styles of playing. There is also a written version of this by Anthony in the Piano Legacy Vol I book.
I got the pleasure to meet this incredible person back in 1990.. Back when he was playing with the Kingsmen...What a wonderful person he was...I am a pianist myself and Modeled my own technique playing southern gospel professionally at one time.. I have my own style but Anthony and I play a lot alike... he was a blessing.. The pianos of earth are crying...because their master is gone.. God rest your soul my friend.
Our special thanks to our big friend Joan (YouTube ivoryticklermama) for sharing your amazing piano playing with us, we loved your performance very much, just great to listen to all these very different styles of your playing, Our compliments for all your efforts, 5*****
Our best wishes to you all the time,

Anthony was the best but thank God he left us all with his music and song books. He had quite a gift for his music. Now he is play for God and all those loved ones that we have loss in Heave. Amen, Amen, Amen.
PG, would you tell me what DVD this is from? I'm looking to learn a few of the many styles that this gifted man used, and I can't find any teaching DVDs by him. Thanks so much in advance!!!
I remember Anthony when he was 16 playing for The Singing Celestrails in small churches in north Alabama. He was great then. He could really put on a show.
he is the most incredible piano player i have ever seen and ever lived i would say but i plan to play just as god as him someday but i dont think that will be very soon im sure and he is very blessed to be able to play so well he was just amazing
This guy is not only a wonderful talent in many genre, he is a consummate comedian. Just check out the humour of his classical version of When We All Get To Heaven. Oh, yeah, and the Southern Gospel version is such a lark! I will listen over again. It's on my fav list.
Wow...now I am sad I didn't get to spend some time with him when we sponsered some concerts in my home town. I have been playing southern gospel piano for 30 years and I can only DREAM of being that good. And to think he would have showed me anything if i had just asked! DOH!!
The other guy talking is Martin Gueresco. This video seems to have been put together in the early '90s, so Martin was playing with Highest Praise. But when I first heard him, he was playing for the Singing Americans. He played on their "Live & Alive" album, in which he was privileged to play behind a truly stellar lineup. A very young Rick Strickland (tenor), Dwayne Burke (bass), the veteran Ed Hill (baritone), and the great Michael Engish (then called Mike) singing lead.
That was so cute how he played the various renditions, ha. Cute. Thank you ! -- Still looking for Burger's piano instrumental of "I've Just Seen Jesus" at youtube, and his Exodus instrumental.
still one of my favorite pianists
