  • How on earth did civilization make it through the 80's?

  • they play this movie on after the fireworks in Australia on new years day lol

  • @emmasjunk yeah i was like the only sober guy at my party that recognized it lol

  • @123Lacorocks lol they play it every year lol

  • The people who say the soundtrack, for "Cant Stop The Music and Xanadu were great, but the movies themselves, well were just the movies themselves. Both had casting issues "Music" with a disco film with June Havoc in the cast, and Although the soundtrack number he did with Olivia Newton John was superb, This was not the type of picture that Gene Kelly appeared in

  • The Village People had a few hits during the disco era, and this would have been acceptable if it was a movie to showcase their own act,but I just couldnt figure out why the other cast members were cast in their roles in the film. June Havoc and Bruce Jenner and The Ritchie Family in the same picture??

  • why even think of taking the time to even preserve this film. THIS is on DVD??? You gotta be kidding me.

  • who did the casting for this atrocity??

  • @63filmbuff How dare you call this movie an atrocity! It is the best movie ever made!

  • they should make a remake of the movie , because its an awesome movie !!

  • I wonder if Bruce has had the talk about this movie to Kylie and Kendall.

  • God I had such a crush on the Indian when I was a little girl.

  • You get to see Valerie Perrine topless too, she was such a teaser in Superman.

  • 'I love you to death'? gee, what a foreshadowing song just before aids.

Fun movie though, most of the songs are great.

  • The lyric is over used pretty badly, but the melody is great.

  • Pure fun! Disco was great music!

  • I'm surprised this isn't a midnight movie by now. Written up by the Medved Brothers in The Hollywood Hall of Shame; and alluded to by Michael & Jane Stern in The Encyclopedia of Bad Taste. I've never seen it, only read about it. Can only imagine what the experience of watching it is like on the Plan-9-o-meter.

  • @7777TubeSurfer You forgot Steve Guttenberg & Bruce Jenner!

  • Best bad movie ever! It's like Busby Berkley for the 1980s! Rock!

  • OKAY I GET IT, I CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC.... ARGHHHH

  • where's bruce jenner?

  • @oliviaruthrobinson Under Kris Kardashian's thumb. :-)

  • looks as terrible now as it looked then

  • I'm old enough to have watched this amazing campfest at the time of its release!!!

  • What a fabulous time!!!

    I miss it!!!

  • He had the razzie award of tje worst music. A horror

  • 1:51 Wow, Steve Guttenerg! Now I'll definitely watch this movie!

  • By 1980 people were getting sick of Disco. Disco was becoming a dirty word in the music and radio business. Radio stations were beginning to weed out the excessive disco on the radio. Bumper stickers with "Disco Sucks" were showing up on car bumpers. Disco was pretty much washed up by the time of the "Disco Demolition" night at a Chicago baseball game, which a stack of disco records were to be blown up. Drunk rock fans threw records like frisbees, thrashed the field and the game was called.

  • The only reason i know about this movie is because Bruce Jenner mentioned it on Keeping up with the Kardashians

  • Every movie I went to see in 1979 was preceded with this trailer. I was 10 -- 11 years old. Thanks for the memories ;-D

  • Superrr GAY xDD

  • I love this cheesy, campy paroxysm of movie making :D awesome fun!!!!

  • GAY!!! GAY!!! GAY!!!

    FAB!!! FAB!!! FAB!!!

  • I have to admit, when I was a kid I freakin' loved this movie. I though it was silly, fun, the music was great, but what did I know I was, 8...9 years old? I think it was the pretty lights that did it. LOL. Its a guilty pleasure. You have to watch it and just enjoy it for what it is. Don't take it too seriously. These guys are Icons!

  • Luv Bruce Jenner xxx

  • I saw the guys at the local pub several years ago and I was amazed they still had it. What atalented bunch of individuals. They could really put on a show. I saw the movie the year it came out I liked it so much I went and saw it again a week later. I have seen it many, many times since then. Probably sums up the disco era better than any other movie

  • yyoouuuuuuuu cant stop the gayness

  • anyone that dislikes this movie is probably a faggot.

  • Better than cameron's crapfest "avatar".

  • @lukebccb why 'cause their were no faggot aliens butt fucking?

  • @A234921 What's your favourite Judy Garland clip on YouTube at the moment? Right now I'm enjoying the duet she does with Mel Torme on the Trolley Song. Of course the Barbara Streisand duet is up there too. What do you think?

  • it was all about Bruce & Steve in their crop tops and daisy duke shorts ;)

  • I didnt know that Bruce Jenner used to act before

  • @mitsubishidiamante Yeah, What is he doing in this picture?

  • WTF... xD

  • It was supposed to be the gay Saturday Night Fever. Well it wasn't.

  • @Ranlon SNF was awesome

  • This movie *CAN'T* fail! It's gonna be *HUGE*!

  • Dreadful when it was made. Fantastic now!

  • Bruce Jenner & Steve Guttenberg cxl'd each other out for any chance for Best Actor at the Oscars

  • Rather than "The Movie that Started the Eighties", my Mom says this is 'The Movie that Killed the Seventies'. And to make things worse, it was the vortex of some sort of lame out-of-Cincinnati type marketing scheme. Department stores (not Saks or Neimans) helped "sponsor" or "promote"...or something...the movie. Retail, back then, was still about showmanship. But this may have been the 'show' that ended it all (and a lot of family-owned department stores). Now, I can see why...

  • Now, that Milkshake is bringing some boys to the yard, sure enough.

  • Of course, thankfully you CAN stop the music, by using your DVD players STOP button, followed swiftly by EJECT and then into the nearest pedal-bin.

  • They should have changed it to You can't stop the laughing! I couldn't stop laughing at this.

  • well let me tell you I was there at the Galleria Design center in San francisco when they were filming this picture and it was AMAZING AND FUN!!!!!

  • no bass...

  • como se llama la cancion del minuto 0:20

  • @sinterrupcionnes Milkshake

  • You can't stop the Heterosexuality!

  • Iconic!

  • one of the best entertaining movie.. its like an MTV n full length movie.. never cared about who can act.. since this is a compilation of all the great cuts... each song is great to hear.... even i it didnt made good at the tills... i just love watching this all over again .. but i just cant find the DVD copy??/ anyone??

  • NUTS TO EVERYBODY, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

  • I've hung with Randy "the cowboy" Jones. He's a great guy!

I'm watching this movie right now on DVD!

  • This film in no way represents the 80's.

  • @RichV20

You're so right, this was not at all what the 80's were like. I am Disco fan and I find that this movie gives a bad name to Disco. The 80's were more varied and had more British influence in it's sound, especially the first half of the 80's.

  • @barzouf94 They started filming this film in 1979..and finished it just before 1980. So there idea of what the 80's was going to be like was simplistic to say the least. You must remember when this film came out Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran werent on the charts yet. Their "vision" of the 1980's was very american.

  • @mooneepondskid

I much preferred the 80's music genre from Europe. Luckily in Quebec ( in the eighties ), foreign groups were quite popular on our charts.

  • Does anyone have the full-length movie version of the soundtrack "Can't Stop The Music"?

  • THIS IS SO GODDAMN METAL

  • Such a "FAB" Movie- we luvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve I hve two of the original Movie posters from THE ABC 123 in BHAM.......................wowza!!!! ICONIC CHEEZE

  • I have to confess, went to c it 2x, LMAO!!! loved the music and Bruce Jenner!

  • i love you to death would be a top 10 hit if it were release today!

  • I hear that this movie was one of the reasons "Xanadu" bombed.

(Personaly, I'd think "Xanadu would've bombed either way.)

  • 1:17 MY BODY MY BODY :D

  • If you've never seen this..........YOU MUST. Do the Milkshake, the Milkshake! <---Is my favorite song from this movie. Also love I Love You To DEATH!

  • @arielgirl Me too, the village people music is so great, the movie is bad but Village People are fun and entertaining

  • I forgot how gorgeous Bruce Jenner was!

  • Yeah, there is nothing straighter than a guy dressed as an indian in a rhinestoned-tassled loincloth.

Why not just let them be gay in the movie? maybe then it wouldn't be so utterly ridiculous that they were trying to hide something.

  • @tinaUNDAcova I dont' think they were hiding that something, but the movie was terrible from the actors to the director, but Village People songs were great

  • I really want them to say "you cant stop the music white boy"....+this is awsome

  • IT's the perfect piss-take, only it's for real. Which will haunt me forever

  • This is so bad I don't know if it's a wtf or ftw moment.

  • Cocaine's sad curse.

  • a prime example of films conceived and made while ingesting terrifying amounts of Inca Talk Powder.

  • @glassineheart Not really..dont forget the guy behind this movie had produced Grease. More a case of trying to cash in on a trend too late. If this film had have been made in 1978 with a more experienced director rather than 1980 with a first time director it would probably have done better.

  • Remembering 1980.....

  • Those chicks want him but he's PUSHING them away!! Clearly, he's worried what his manhood would do to them.

  • This looks fucking brilliant and Valerie Perrine is hot. How did this this ever fail?

  • @Kemster79

Disco was all but dead by the time the movie hit the theatres. I think the original title was going to be "disco-themed" but was changed as the public's tastes were quicky changing. And, it was directed by Nancy Walker (Rhoda's mom), who as talented as she was, had never directed a major motion picture before. Looking back it as nolstagia, I love it and watch it a few times a year. But at the time, I thought of it as a cheezy movie whose main theme was a fad on its way out.

  • @taffy8davenport Thanks for the feedback taffy. I had read about the fact that this came out right at the end of the disco fad hence it's commercial failure. Having only ever read about it as an infamous turkey (both commercial and critical) I was suprised to see, at least from the trailer, what look like very high production values. I'd always read that Myra Brecenridge was a flop in every sense of the word too but when I came to watch it myself I was shocked at how good it actually is.

  • @Kemster79 I think if this had been made a year or two earlier than it was, it might have made it. I've read some reviews of the movie at the time (all bad), but it still could have made money if it had come out earlier. I've heard the same thing about MB, but haven't seen that one yet.

  • @Kemster79 The story was nice about how The Village People were formed and such but agree with you Disco was over Victor Willis orig Cop and song writer was smart to pull out of it, Allan Carr wanted to get another hit after his fame with Grease but sadly this ruined him, lost quite a bit of money.

  • @Kemster79 horrible marketing and timing, Travolta in Saturday Night Fever was the bar to pass, no one really wanted to know the true story of the Village People kinda sad it was a pretty decent film esp on the big screen. Allan Carr fresh off Grease wanted another musical it had it but bad acting, sorry VPs your not great actors, and Perrine was affordable eye candy, Bruce Jenner was someone with notiability, others were good people just bad fit imop

  • @OEKCVB Thanks mate. I read that half the $20 million budget was blown on global marketing!

  • you may criticize, but YOU Can't Stop the Music!!! it lives on forever and ever. this is easily one of the top-ten all-time most glamorous films. it's even better today than in 1980. people are so dull now. where's the fun and fashion? it's in this fantastic film for all to enjoy, except for the uptight lames who think Times Square is better off now. F - U all to hell.

  • It's hard to believe 'Empire Strikes Back' was released the same year as this cheesy, campy paroxysm of movie-making.

  • @philaman1972

Makes Star Wars look even more ahead of it's time than it already was.

  • @philaman1972 I think this movie grossed more than Empire Strikes Back, you asshole.

  • @Oceanpacifica1968 actually this movie bombed at the box office, grossing less than $3 million on its $20 million dollar budget, Plus it won the first razzie for worst picture

  • @philaman1972 'Empire Strikes Back' is in itself a campy paroxysm of American Imperialism turned into an intergalactic pseudo-operetta. This movie is honest at least.

  • im so glad i was born in the 70s...live grew in the 80s...you cant stop the music, real music. im blessed

  • I actually forced myself to sit through this once... it *is* bad. No fault of the Village People, because the songs weren't bad. (The ending of the title song is friggin' ENDLESS, though.) It's just a terrible movie overall.

  • @NyeTunes I saw this on the big screen wasnt all that bad, the night i went people dressed up as The VP and the music was great because the sound system in the show place was great. Whats sad is Victor who wrote most of the songs for the movie quit i think he was VP even though simpson has done a great job. The ending was long your right abt that!! =)

  • Got a digest on super 8 of this...

  • being a huge vp fan it kills me 2 say but this movie was just awful..i did however buy the album and still own it..the music was fantastic..but the movie? no..wouldn't take money 2 watch it again, lol......

  • this is one of the best musical films ever...i recomend everybody to watch it...im looking for the spanish version...

  • @madeluis71 sorry no its not ever seen "Show boat" or Hollywood on Parade these films or Astaire and Rodgers wow greatest shows ever as musicals or Gene Kelly singin in the rain those were the days when dances did it, nailed it and made films great pioneers of great musicals imop

  • LOVE IT!!! This is music that you can actually dance to!!!

  • i have to see this.

  • I just got the DVD. This film may have been destroyed by the critics back in the day, and I know it is campy, cheesy, corny, you name it... And still, it is FANTASTIC! The music is awesome! Fun to watch and remember those unforgettably colorful days. Long live the Village People!

  • @gabstanace

I own it too. It was camp and fun. It was destroyed by the anti-disco backlash. Too bad because it was a riot.

  • and it only cost 20 million dollars!

  • first razzie awarded film and on wikipedia it said the writer DIED during the run!!!!

  • GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

  • steve guttenberg before police academy and short circuit

  • Bruce Jenner looks pretty gay in this trailer

  • @TargetGuy2245 I would love to know how they convinced him to wear that short shirt and denim shorts..lol.

  • Yes, this was a campy but funny and entertaining movie...........and the sdtrk. was KILLER!

  • The final stake in the heart of disco. Thank God!

"Can't stop the laughter?". When did it start?

  • bruce jenner in cutoffs...wolf

  • Bruce Jenner's amazing acting skills on showcase! LOL!

  • Great movie, too bad it came out just at the 'end' of disco. One of the lesser known disco movies that should be seen if you like disco!

  • It's not Gay. It's Disco !!

Disco was a time when "Gay" still meant Happy. Please someone post this whole movie on youtube.. Part 1,2,3,4 etc. I have been waiting 30 years to see it again. The Last time I saw it is when it came out in 1980 in the movie theatre. Please post the whole movie !!

  • It's a fantastic movie, in a "Xanadu" sort of way. It's available on DVD...or look for a torrent file to "borrow" it from the web

  • Oh my god the best movie ever!!! It's hilarious!

  • Good movie not the best but if you liked the Village people it was cool on the big screen, as far anything else enjoy the music leave the lifestyle alone, its there business and Gods questions they will be asked not you. Allan Carr god rest his soul who produced Grease was a very kind person and he was asked a lot of why and why I think he was a fan and it was the Disco age!!! Lol VP still tours and does pretty good for 30 years going wow scary also VP give Victor Willis his due he is VP alsoray

  • @OEKCVB Did Allan Carr have anything to do with "Grease 2"? I mean, G2 is NOWHERE near as bad as this was, but I'd just be curious.

I'm actually surprised Robert Stigwood didn't have something to do with this - he had a very unlucky streak. (Sgt. Pepper, Times Square, Grease 2, AND Staying Alive. Yikes.)

  • @NyeTunes hello, yes Allan co-produced with Stigwood major mistake ince they were to sign Travolta and Newton John to Grease 2 but scripts were changed and money was the issue so Travolta and John passed. Carr took a big beatin for this and studios were NOT happy with the reviews or draw of G2 sad decent movie.

  • @NyeTunes Robert Stigwood was too busy ruining Times Square when this was being made. They both came out in the same year don't forget.

  • I can't believe in this day an age people are still asking that tired question. Who gives a crap which VP members were gay? For the record...all of them and none of them...

  • @Furrymandal I agree I was very lucky to have met two of them back in 79, 81 both were very kind I was 12, 14 in age I asked Glenn Hughes in 79 if he was gay? he said he liked girls and said he kept his business behind the doors, and gave me a high five and had a soda with me at a NYC sidewalk cafe truly a kind man, wrote to me for many years, sadly as you know he passed away. David Scar Hodo was crazy he had girls left and right on him he told me he liked both but preferred men, so i agree w u

  • It's the handlebar mustaches that confuse people....

  • Not wanting to split hairs (facial) but that moustache is called either a "Dennison" or a "Horseshoe" . Handle bar moustaches turn up...

  • Heh! I never knew that... I find that hard to adopt, because if I snicker about the Village People or Foghat having a "Dennison mustache," they won't grab what I mean right away...

and wouldn't a "horseshoe mustache" have to be one of those that goes, like, all the way down to the chin?

(This is all going to be put into a coffee-table book on mustaches, I know it)

  • WHAT A GREAT IDEA! lol...

Check out the biker dude...his did go all the way to the chin...the others were just plain ol' gay porn star staches...

    You're too funny...

  • :{D

  • @Furrymandal yeah it doesn't really matter.... I just grew up with the music, kinda weird how it still works

  • Comment removed

  • ok this is great movie. but i want to see all of its numbers in full. another thing; how many "gay" member of the Village People ?

  • OMG, it's sooooo gay!!

  • Mr Tjtjboy, that comment about the 'indian dude' is steeped in irony.

  • at 1:32 the indian dude looks gay. But I like the village people music

  • Beautiful! Epic! Village People were amazing; indeed, most acts in the 70s were beyond amazing... Queen, Kiss, The Jackson 5, The Osmonds, Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Sweet, Abba... where did all that glamour and talent go?

  • OMG..... Kx

  • Oh lord!

  • i love them wow

  • Comment removed

  • I actually saw this when it was in theaters in '81! It was a silly piece of fluff, and as camp as a row of tents, but the music was fun. Disco was on it's last gasp, so I'm not surprised that it failed so miserably.

  • Holy Mother in Hell! This is horrible! I can't wait to watch it!

  • @MickTravisBickle I saw it in the theater when it first came out.

  • @IliveatArea51 So did I. LOL

  • @MickTravisBickle You know what they say; "It's so bad it's good !"

  • This is a really fun and upbeat movie, especially if you like the Village People's music!

  • I can now finally see why this got the Rasberry Award in 1981. Pure kitch.

  • This my favorite part of the movie, you can't stop the music, thanks!

  • I just saw them in concert in Chicago, it was magic, I loved it, you can't stop the music!!!!

  • IT'S FUN TO STAY AT THE

    Y

  • Holy Murphy's Law Batman!! If everything could go wrong, well it did in this trailer!!!

  • Thank U

  • What a big surprise was watching After all these years Blackie Lawless act in this movie.
