  • If you liked Black Swan then this is basically the same except this was made long before.

  • boring

  • @DestinyAncient

    the movie or the trailer?

  • @DavidSeth2 Alright so I need advice. I'm getting into anime, but only a few movies that I saw I really liked (and trust me, I'm a cinephiliac.) I liked most of Miyazaki's films, and I appreciated Akira and grave of the fireflies, but I hated Paprika. Can you recommend 5 or 10 really good Anime films? (if this helps, which it probably won't, my favorite films are Oldboy, Pulp Fiction, 2 Kill A Mockingbird, 400 Blows, Boogie Nights, Good Bad and Ugly, and Boogie Nights.)

  • @tatertots725 I didnt hate Paprika, but it certainly wasnt one of my favorites from Satoshi Kon. Here are a few of my personal favorites: Millennium Actress, Whisper of the Heart, Wings of Honneamise, Tokyo Godfathers, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Only Yesterday, Metropolis, Ghost in the Shell, 5 Centimeters per Second. I'm reluctant to recommend End of Evangelion, since it takes place after the series, but it's filled with so much WTF imagery that you may still like it.

  • @DavidSeth2 thanks man I'll start checking them out. I also should tell you (even though I'm sure a man of your anime knowledge knows about them already) that I recently discovered 2 awesome series called Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop. They're sooo great! Any other cool shows like those 2?

  • @DavidSeth2 oh and consequently, any "good" anime like the kill bill anime segment?

  • @tatertots725 Samurai X: The Motion Picture, Ninja Scroll, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, and maybe Spriggan. I liked Spriggan a lot, but I seem to be the only one. Also maybe you should check out some anime series, such as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex or Elfen Lied. But don't take my word for it. Check out reviews from places like themanime. org or anime-planet. com I like Anime Planet because there are lots of recommendations for almost all anime genres.

  • I had to stop watching this movie because it disturbed me so much D:

  • @The9226192 ya the rape seen was a bit much wasnt it

  • @shedog100 It really was, but a major portion of the film depends on the severity of that scene. Other films that come to mind with similar scenes: Irreversible, I Spit on Your Grave, Last House on the Left, and Cannibal Holocaust.

  • @shedog100 No such thing as too much rape.

@DavidSeth2 Don't forget the first Evil Dead film!

  • psycho

  • Where's the extension of this music...I look at the other videos and I hear japanese pop music

  • @freeman8201 hey, if you're still interested: the music (in the trailer) is called 'Virtua Mima', the soundtrack is even on youtube

  • is it worth watching?

  • @killingspeerx Definitely worth watching. You won't regret it unless you have a great fear of going mad.

  • p.s. Does anybody know where I can find this theme "Mimas Theme" with the "excuse me who are you" voice over still in it? I must have for Halloween to blast outside for the trick or treaters :) I am getting hopeless now and think I need to create it myself.

  • @theSicilianToe Its call Virtual Mima, voice only, and you can't find it with the words, like you want it. You must create it yourself by using a few files from the webz.

  • movies a trip

  • Anyone who says Anime is only for children needs to have their heads examined.

  • @Visonu

Or you could just make them watch Perfect Blue... or Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Millennium Actress, Paranoia Agent, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell, Now and Then Here and There, End of Evangelion, Angel Egg, Only Yesterday, Ocean Waves, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Higurashi When They Cry, Spriggan, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Monster, Haibane Renmei, Kino's Journey, Serial Experiments Lain, Grave of the Fireflies, Metropolis... THEN see if they still think its all for kids

  • @DavidSeth2 grave of the fireflies hah. Japanese propaganda intended to make us feel sympathy for the Japanese when they committed the most notorious and heinous war crimes in the history of the Human race. They are very lucky to even have a homeland left after what they put the world through. They made the Nazis look like choir boys.

  • @DavidSeth2 many thanks for the titles

  • @DavidSeth2 What about Steamboy?

  • @Visonu I don't why people think that cause actually they shouldn't show anime to kids like 80 or almost 90% of anime are usually teen rated or adult rated if those people see the original uncut versions (not eng dubs) of the classics (example DB or Sailor Moon) they would think again.

  • forever alone...

  • I loved this movie!!! I did not see the ending coming. I wish I could share this with my friends but one isn't into anime and the other doesn't like anything sexual in movies.

  • Awesome movie with awesome ending!!

  • I was shocked when I found out he died. Satoshi-san.

  • omg it reminds me of ed tv . . . i think i didn't wach that movie just a bit it more lik that movie jim carrey was in were everything he did was filmed

  • Brilliant movie, loved it <3

  • amazing..

  • I woulda never guessed the ending. This was awesome

  • Satoshi Kon AND Katsuhiro Otomo. Gotta love it.

  • Amazing...

  • I really love this movie, I just finished watching it....my god I am in love with this director now...WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE!!

  • @Coleboy44TheThird

Sadly, death is inevitable. While he was taken from his family and fans far too soon, it is something that we have to deal with. My only hope is that a few aspiring artists, whether animation or live action, will essentially follow in his foot steps and create hauntingly beautiful works in a similar fashion. Not so much as a direct copy cat, but someone who will take a similar approach to story telling in the visual medium.

  • @Coleboy44TheThird Join the club. Now watch Paprika so you can scream and damn and curse his death by being blown away by such an amazing movie. my God, the man was a walking God with creative and mindcrews.

  • @Coleboy44TheThird Because he's human.

  • Am I the only one that thinks 'Requiem For A Dream' steal that same EXACT scene of Mima under water when she is taking a bath to be well, THE SAME? Only Mima says 'BASTARDS' with bubbles coming out and in Requiem the girl is just screaming. . I swear it's the same images. And Perfect Blue came out before Requiem. . So WTF. D<

  • @SOOLTV Aronofsky bought the rights to the anime for the ONE scene

  • @Fragile0Still Even if they had the rights, it doesn't change the fact that Perfect Blue started it all. xD I don't even want to get started with Black Swan comparison and how many people are saying it's like Perfect Blue, that's a whole another level right there. x___X

  • This trailer is really perfect for the film, especially when she keeps saying that very iconic line 'excuse me, who are you?' The movie was amazing, pure masterpiece, and RIP Satoshi Kon, you were really one of the greatest and you shall never be forgotten, thanks for giving us this along side Paranoia Agent and many more epic films!

  • I have this movie it's great

  • Best movie ever. I've watched it over 60 times.. never tires me.

  • I don't know i thaught this was better than black swan

  • Truman Show mixed up with Black Swan!

  • Comment removed

  • this makes me think of Black Swan!

  • @sophieliner

    really? how so?

  • @DavidSeth2 well, first of Mima/Nina, Mima increasingly becomes unable to separate reality from fantasy, she can no longer distinguish real life from her work in show business just like Nina can't seperate her life from Swan Lake etc... dunno why but it made me think of Black Swan :p

  • @sophieliner it should... the director bought the rights of perfect blue to use some scenes on Black Swan ;)

  • @leandrasin if you want to split hairs, he bought the rights in order to recreate a shot for Requiem for a Dream, specifically the birds eye bathtub shot, which was also used in Black Swan.

  • @npetrie76 I know... well I knew that scene was ripped out on another movie but couldn't put my finger on which one xD thx... but if you watch Perfect Blue closely you'll see that it has WAY more references than just that particular scene... WAY more!

Too bad Perfect Blue lingers on the shadows while Black Swan takes all the glory -.-

  • @leandrasin You mean Requiem for a dream. That bath scene.

  • @SOOLTV Sorry I couldn't understood what you meant... The director bought the rights of Perfect Blue to use the bath scene on Sunshine (requiem for a dream is the OST song of that movie) he then proceeded on recreating that scene on Black Swan and while he was on it ripped a lot of other scenes from Perfect Blue and inserted them on Black Swan...

Hurray Hollywood for botching up Asian movies and claiming them as theit own!!! \o/

  • @leandrasin I already know that. >>

  • @SOOLTV -.-´ then you should be more concise and coherent in your comments from here on out, no? >.>

  • @DavidSeth2 Really? girl facing big career decisions, slowly losing her mind and the audience is left wondering what actually happens and what doesn't? you didn't notice the comparisons?

  • @DavidSeth2

Black Swan directly takes some shots from it actually. Like when she's on the train and her reflection moves separately, or when she's in the bath weeping to herself. But don't let anyone tell you it was "ripped off" because they are different in allot of ways.

  • @DavidSeth2 They both follow the plot of how fame & fortune turns you insane.

  • @DavidSeth2 Both are psychological thrillers and make you wonder if the events that occured were real or all made up in the character's mind. While there are differences, they are similar in this respect.

  • @sophieliner try Vertigo

  • @sophieliner

    I hope that was sarcasm.

  • @sophieliner it should... the director bought the rights of perfect blue to use some scenes on Black Swan ;)

  • @sophieliner the creator of black swan was inspired in Perfect Blue -.-

  • @sophieliner i think Black Swan was inspired by this movie..

  • @sophieliner Black Swan is a wanna be rip off that doesn't compare to the epicness that Perfect Blue delivers, they're not even in the same level. Sorry, you stating they are similar is insulting. xP

  • @SOOLTV

You can say the same for Matrix being like Akira, ghost in The Shell and Ninja Scroll combined

  • @Johnlindsey289 To combine such films together is insulting. It's like saying a Cartoon is so realistic when it's not. I mean those movies were great alone, I don't see why they must be compare. They're nothing alike.

  • @SOOLTV

Well Matrix was influenced by those 3 movies i mentioned you know. Even Avatar was influenced by various movies especially the works of Hayao Miyazaki like Laputa, Nausicaa, Pom Poko and Princess Mononoke since Cameron is a fan of animation and Miyazaki.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Being inspire is not the same as comparing them to be the same. Which is the case of Black Swan and Perfect Blue of stating they are one in the same.

  • @SOOLTV

But do you think Matrix and Ghost in The Shell are the same?

  • @Johnlindsey289 None at all. Only when you think hard enough you can find some similarities. I mean one is about people jacking into a World that is fiction, the other is just a cyborg. Movies have slight undertones of similarities, that doesn't mean the movie is the same. If you have a lot of similar themes going at once, then you can say they're one in the same.

  • @sophieliner Aronofsky is a HUGE Satoshi Kon fan, he bought the rights to this film for Requiem for a Dream.

  • @sophieliner the person who made black swan got some of his ideas from this movie

  • @sophieliner

Yeah, well.. Black Swan is influenced by this movie A LOT. Almost as much as that I would call it a part-remake of this..

  • @sophieliner Did you read the Cracked article?

@DavidSeth2 The premises are similar young women goes trying to achieve success as an actress/ dancer. Also Darren Aronofsky, the director of Black Swan bought the rights to perfect blue so he could use the bath scene in his other movie Requiem of a Dream.

  • @sophieliner black swan? yeah i liked that movie when it was called perfect blue.

  • Okay, I watched the movie, and I was confused as hell. I was able to piece tiny bits together, but for the life of me, would someone please explain?

  • this Movie, and all of Satoshi Kon's other works, (including paranoia agent) are among some of my most prized possessions. the man was brilliant, and I do not use that word lightly.

  • Excuse me, who are you?

  • Please what the music name of the trailer ????

  • @TheSnakez9

    Baachiya Mima - Masahiro Ikumi

you can find the entire song on youtube

  • @DavidSeth2 thank you

  • @TheSnakez9 actually the name of this song on the trailer is called "Virtual Mima (Voice Version)"

  • This movie is a masterpiece of suspense and mood. I actually put it right there with Suspiria in these two areas. A perfect thriller in every sense of the word.

  • I wanna watch it right now*0*

  • Paprika was great, did kon direct tekkonkinkreet?

  • i seriously got to watch all his movies again and pay more attention because they are great but always confuse me

  • This trailer doesn't do the movie justice. If I had seen this before the movie I don't think I would have watched it.

  • When watching the trailer for "Black Swan" I thought it looked familiar...its an American bastardized version of PB!

  • @JonInCCTX

Isn't it insane dude? Right on the year Satoshi Kon passes away...2 big Hollywood names decide to come out with movies: INCEPTION & Black Swan.

    Inception - Paprika

    Black Swan - Perfect Blue

Isn't it ridiculous? Is it a mere coincidence. I DOUBT IT. It's so sad that many people will never know of Kon's films. At least there's us huh? Let's spread the word!

  • :47 what's wrong with her eyes!

  • R.I.P. Satoshi Kon the best!

  • Pervert Blue

  • Just found out that one of the greatest anime directors of all time has passed away this very summer. There is no emoticon strong enough to express my feelings, thus I will draw none.

  • holy shit its the deep movie voice over guy

  • LOL alfred hitchcock partnered up with walt disney

well alfred hitchcock is a genius in psychological/thriller films but i don't know if walt disney would approve to animate a rated R film with all the violence and nudity

  • Awesome movie, too bad the director is dead. This is one of my fave anime movies since 1999 when i bought it on VHS in it's director's cut when i was 18, i've been an anime fan since i was 12 when i watched stuff like Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival on TBS then Totoro on video after seeing a great TV review and of course i saw Akira when i was 14.

  • this is my favorite film he directed... r.i.p. wish he was still here to create more amazing films

  • fuck! you can't translate japanese into english! it just sounds stupid! it loses a lot of its entertainment

  • anyone reckon the stalker guy, looks like bigwig out of watership down?

  • im going to watch i love the trailer

  • R.I.P. Master Kon

  • alfred hitchcock + disney = Perfect Blue? I disagree, anyone else?

  • @TheBookwormblondy yeah Hitchcock maybe, disney? Is that just cos that's the only animation that reviewer knew of? Ugh. Just wanted a punchy soundbite, if disney was like this I'd watch a lot more of it these days.

  • @TheBookwormblondy I don't really agree either, but you have to remember that when this movie was released through Manga (2000), anime was still viewed by most people as cartoons with nothing but robots and impossibly big breasted women. But when Roger Corman wrote that review, I think he was trying to let the average movie watcher know just how different Perfect Blue was. So he used two Hollywood names that almost everyone can relate with to help people understand the basic feel of the film.

  • @DavidSeth2 (continued) So in that respect, I think Mr Corman did a great thing in comparing Perfect Blue with Walt Disney and Alfred Hitchcock. Disney, who's company has made some truly beautiful animated movies (which almost everyone in the US has seen) and Hitchcock, who made some of the most iconic psychological thrillers of the 40's - 60's (Psycho, Marnie, The Rope). Yeah, the quote isn't exactly accurate in describing Perfect Blue, but it does a fine job for people who don't know anime.

  • @DavidSeth2

It is a great thriller and you suprised they draw pubic hair in this movie when Japan is forbidden to draw pubic hair even in hentai? and do you think Urotsukidoji gave anime a bad name for people think anime is all tentacles and that sort of thing?

  • My favorite anime of all time by my favorite anime director of all time. R.I.P. Kon-san ;_;

  • Black Swan

  • @theblackpinoy I just saw the trailer for Black Swan and thought the exact same thing. Is Aronofsky just copying this film now? Didn't he buy the rights to Perfect blue so he could copy a scene into Requiem For a Dream?

  • RIP satoshi kon die at age 46 soon to be 47

  • Me too... Rest in peace...

  • This movie scared the shit out of me.

  • Rest in peace :(

  • Rest in peace Satoshi Kon. You were taken from us way too soon, but I will always be a fan.

  • @DavidSeth2 How did he die? I had no idea he had passed! This makes me sad!

  • @KreatuRRR he had cancer

  • O_O

  • ok, yea it is a great anime and all, it actually scared me in the beginning, but did anyone actually understood was the hell was going on? I mean i did understand in the end mostly, but so many things still just don't make sense.

  • @Killuminatyi

some part of the movies were just the imagination of Mima because she was suffering a lot from the "Attacks" and death threats as well as the script.

  • the english dub of this is, unlike most dubs, excedeling well done. anyone?

  • @TVindustries5000 I agree. It is a very good dub.

  • @TVindustries5000 actually the english dub is very weak. Its so much better in the original language.

  • @LiquidEvolva

I agree, I think it's creepier in its original language. Plus, I can't help but see Miaka from

  • @LiquidEvolva

I agree, I think it's creepier in its original language. Plus, I can't help but see Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi when I hear her voice, so it kinda ruins it for me HAHA!

  • @TVindustries5000 I actually think the dub is pretty terrible, and I usually prefer watching dubs. It's really amazing in the original language.

  • @TVindustries5000 ...I definitely like Wendee Lee's performance as Mima's manager, Rumi. Nice Hitchcockian twist at the end using this character at the end. Steven Jay Blum does a bit part as one of Mima's more cynical fan boys...

  • @ThatNiceAtheistGuy Excuse me, who are you? Excuse me, who are you? Excuse me, who are you?

  • 1:15

  • guys is this film gud...i dn't no if i shud watch it or not...wats it about??

  • @bb3840

Well, I think Perfect Blue is good, as do many other people. But it is very dark, and has strong sexual themes as well as graphic violence. Its about Mima, who leaves the idol group CHAM, in order to pursue her dream as an actress. She wants to become famous, so she agrees to act in controversial roles, such as rape victims. She also poses nude for magazines, which doesn't sit well with some of her fans. She has to deal with a stalker while also dealing with her own self image.

  • Has anyone been able to find the music piece thats playing in the backround of this trailer separately??

Sounds like a series of violins getting increasingly tighter and tenser, maked for some great scenes...

  • this movies so strange i didnt understand it

  • @xMindlessxAriesx Guess that's why you have Mindless in your name.

  • everybody has to see this movie it seriously gave me an anxiety attack.

  • yo its a mind trip huh i collect rare anime and this has got to be one of my favs

  • I just got done watchin the movie and.....it was one of the most disturbing movies i have ever watched in my life, at the same time it was very suspencefulO_O

  • I just ordered a copy of this today, can't wait to see it

  • wow! im a anime and a thriller/horror fan xD its ma kinda film! thank you for uploading the vid

  • aaahhhh una muy buena pelicula!!

definitivo se va a mi lista de favoritas!

  • I NEED to see this NOW

  • Thanks for putting up and English one!!! ^^

  • you're welcome. One of my favorite animes ever. It was also one of the first I ever saw too.
