While historically people made clothing and houses for themselves and gathered crops (all acts of consuming resources), they were not convinced to purchase unnecessary goods and services merely to enrich others as we are today.
There are many positive aspects of capitalism, as you note, but there are many negative aspects. For one, it's inefficient: rather than selling a cure, capitalism seeks to sell a treatment..
@jigen08 "Consumerism" of unnecessary goods only exists today because only today it is possible, previously the scarcity and inefficiency of production meant everybody was poor except for a top 1%. But even if people stopped all consumerism and stuck to the necessary and rational we would still have "capitalism" (allocation of capital in investments for profit). Consumerism is just a bad side effect of a good thing, abundance.

Bernays is just a natural by product of the capitalist system, if he hadn't been here then someone else would have come up with the same ideas. Sure some very consequential details are exposed behind closed doors but in terms of big picture ideology, that's all out in the open. And you're correct, the internet is a slippery slope as well, the elites have predicted it becoming as popular as it has, hence the same ads and propaganda from television are being applied to video sites as well. I run AdBlock Plus and nullify that crap before it reaches my screen.

While historically people made clothing and houses for themselves and gathered crops (all acts of consuming resources), they were not convinced to purchase unnecessary goods and services merely to enrich others as we are today.
There are many positive aspects of capitalism, as you note, but there are many negative aspects. For one, it's inefficient: rather than selling a cure, capitalism seeks to sell a treatment..

@jigen08 "Consumerism" of unnecessary goods only exists today because only today it is possible, previously the scarcity and inefficiency of production meant everybody was poor except for a top 1%. But even if people stopped all consumerism and stuck to the necessary and rational we would still have "capitalism" (allocation of capital in investments for profit). Consumerism is just a bad side effect of a good thing, abundance.

Come on! You think I'm Jewish? Well, I guess I have no way to prove otherwise... But I'm not. We can at least agree that 'anti-Semitism' is grossly overused. If you want to see some kosher criticisms of the sections of Jewry and Judaism I disagree with, read 'Jewish History, Jewish Religion: The Weight Of Three Thousand Years' by the late, great Israel Shahak. This is so unbelievably idiotic I almost don't know what to say, not even an attempt at rational argument. I heard someone say the same about slavery, "Slavery is on the rise like never before, and it's the fault of the Africans themselves." If anti-racist immigrant placement programs like the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society have such a deep, anti-racist, abiding love for people of color, then why doesn't Israel open up its gates to third world multiculturalism, and diversity? Why is Israel's immigration policy ethnic Jewish-only? Why do
