after listening the entrance of this song, i wondered when he wrote it and just found out that vivaldi was 56 years old. i was thinking that a composer who is at his early 20s could write that type of very joyful and childish melodies
Ahh, now I understand. Sorry about that! This comment-system on uTube really does suck - when one looks over comments one has no idea who is discussing with whom! :o)
I agree with you, but what is your point? I am not overly familiar with the oldies, but are you implying that a more 'pointed' sound is easily achievable on the oldies? Mind you, I don't know it so I'm just asking out of curiosity, not implying something...
A baroque bassoon should not sound baroque? Now that's something new! I don't think this sound would fit to classical pieces but I find it highly appropriate and not fitting. Of course, you just stated your opinion, but how could Azzolini make modern-bassoon-sounds with that horn?
Thank you for your reply, I said I didn't like it, not that I didn't understand it. All the same thanks for the info and please understand that I wasn't insulting the performer, the piece or the instrument because I get the distinct feeling that you were trying your absolute best to defend it against my wrath. On the other hand, you might just like sharing your knowledge.
I've never been a huge fan of the baroque bassoon. Sounds too nasaly for my liking... sort of "pinched" but that's just me. This is still sweet. I love the second movement of this piece. I'm playing it for my first year jury, and listening to recordings of it just makes me feel scared hehe.
I don't download any of my classical music. I purchase the CDs. I recommend you do so also, because the classical music industry is struggling, and these performers put alot of time and effort into making these recordings for us.
I love clean recordings in which you can hear the breathing of the players. There's something horribly mechanical about a recording that filters out the little human things.
This is also a mind-blowingly good version of this piece. Simply perfect. Thank you for posting it. I'm going to buy the album right now.

Do you know the specific differences between the modern version and the Baroque one? I know that the baroque one has a lot less holes but other than that I don't know.
It's great piece of Bassoon instrument concerto, that genius and the work of music unique and Vivaldi use in this work Bassoon, Harpsichord, Violin, Viola, Cello.
I think it's an excellent and powerful performance.

no the tempo is just as it should be, it says allegro. This is allegro
smole133 2 years ago 2
@kalalill
There are lots of variations in the tempo. So, at the end, the rythm is quite good

I agree that it's too soft. I've heard recordings that have more energy to it.

I also like when you can hear the clack of the keys. It makes it feel more like the performers there with you.

I think it says in the CD booklet that they play on Venetian Baroque Standard Pitch of A=440...based on an actual baroque bassoon of the period ryt ?
People don't realize how difficult this piece is on Baroque Bassoon.... they're thinking it's easy "with a modern bassoon in mind."

Yes.

HARMONICO101 3 years ago
It is a baroque concerto, so if you don't improvise a bit, then you aren't really playing it properly.
And yes, the baroque bassoon certainly has an interesting tone.

??? I know the baroque bassoon sounds different but.... lol

I am always amazed at the skill of the musicians who play Vivaldi, as his music is often technically difficult to master.
