  • Nice setup. Given the choice between the two, which do you favor/use more often? I've been reading up on both and thinking about buying the EMX.

  • @KINGJTG1000XXX Yes, I'd go with the EMX. My ESX gathers dust for the most part, and I only use it for the occasional sampled vocal.

  • @rudeog You could use a roland ms 1 or something for a couple vocal samples. It makes me sad that your esx gathers dust. I use mine for chopping up drums and percussive stuff from records etc.

Cool nonetheless though. The emx is funner as far as quickly coming up with some colorful electro grooves.

  • well done, sir!

  • ...Bumpercarts?

  • @MooseHeadMoosic bumbaclot, it's Jamaican speak for m*therf*cker

  • @UrbanCrunkMovement

Oh sweet, learn something new every day!

    Thanks dude c:

  • How are you changing the LFO rates within each pattern, and is that recorded?

  • @meshlife88 You set the LFO to sync to temp, then use automation recording to record it for the pattern.

  • Can this thing tell you what key you are playing in? I want to get one so I can play bass and guitar over some beats.

  • @mixolydian671 If you are asking whether it can detect what key you are playing (like a guitar tuner), no. If you are asking whether it's fixed, known notes, then the answer is yes. The keys at the bottom are black and white like a piano keyboard, and are set to fixed notes like a piano. You can shift the keyboard up and down in the octaves too.

  • @mixolydian671 yes the buttons in the bottom lights up when a note is played and it shows which note is

  • I'd use the ESX for drum over the EMX, You can load much better samples then the EMX has. Just sayin

  • Digg'n it \,,,/

  • nice man !!!!!

  • nice live! it's very important to have boght? or just emx it's ok?

  • @pype64 Having EMX by itself is fine. I don't use the ESX much.

  • @rudeog the voice is with the sx? it's a sampler the sx?

  • @pype64 Yes

  • @rudeog thank you so much! and it's a great job! emx is very strong i don't thing so... ;) thx! ;)

  • @pype64 you mean "both" bought means that you buy it.

  • is an emx-1 practical for live sound? it makes cool sounds and works easily but it seems like a lot of moves to go from one sound to the other. is there something easier

  • Hello! Good videos, I'm looking for something to make music dub and electro, which is what I recommend to start? Electribe or microsampler or what? Grettings from mexico

  • @CHYNAZKI most likely a midi controller and a good musical software daw like ableton reason or logic

  • whats the difference between the emx and esx?

  • Sounds great dude! keep up the good work

  • Nice bass man, is that kind of wobble easy with the EMX?

  • @aikighost Sure. Check my other video for a how-to.

  • c ecxelen ce que tu fait

  • what's the difference between the emx and the esx?

  • @15381472

    Emx = Synth

    Esx = Sampler

  • Awesome tune! What kind of delay effect are you using on the 'bumba clot' vocal sample? It sounds amazing.

  • @pmsan29 It's the delay effect thats built into the ESX and is the mod delay if I recall.

  • Can someone please give me some info on how to get the most out of my korg esx its a hard road trying to find synth samples etc also should i change my tubes because my audio is getting shitty on my mx its all scratchy at all ranked out also i have some songs id like to show you guys i think i have a diff approach to dub but idk something i think im lacking soon ill post some stuff and id like everyone on youtubes HONEST FEEDBACK please also does anyone have any techniques for dirty house THANKS

  • Saw you were interested in MicroKorg dubstep videos and settings? Check out my MK dub videos and there is a link for a website with my settings and videos! Thanks! Subbed too!

  • is it better to use these together without a shared midi clock?

  • @mikevsself Not sure I understand your question. When you use them together, you set one of them to sync from the other one. If you don't do that, you'd have to set the tempo to the same, and press start and stop on both at exactly the same time.

  • @rudeog but in the video it doesnt look like you have them connected through midi? thats why i asked.

  • @mikevsself Yeah, in this vid, I was just triggering samples manually from the ESX, so I didn't need any sync between them. Most of the time you'd sync them.

  • is the emx a sampler and sequencer? can you use without a computer?

  • @nullhunnad Not a sampler. Built in sounds. Yes, it's designed to be used without a computer.

  • how do you make one synth pattern change tempo/speed on the phaser Effect?

    i didn't learn that yet, i'm dumb!

  • You should get a Kaoss pad and add it in the mix. I love them. Nice job though. Love the tune.

  • @AbortedCannibalTOM I'd recommend the EMX, but if you want to load samples, you'd need the ESX. Both can be used in conjunction with Reason via MIDI sync.

  • Song name: Bumper Cars

  • how are you controlling the shuffle and delay of the "bass wobble" sounds.. or are they just downloaded on and SD an put in there as in and cannot "tweak" them?

  • @BRANSCOMBEx I have another video tutorial on how to do it (look in my profile). There is a rate knob. In this case, I've recorded the movement of the knob for the duration of the pattern.

  • @BRANSCOMBEx nothing on the emx is imported, its all sounds you make yourself

  • This is what the real Bible looks like.

  • do you need the esx to produce dubstep related mixes? or would i be fine with just the emx? also is it easy to play already recorded mixes live? i.e. press one button for one mix, then another for another mix? if that makes any sense.

  • @kIlladelph215 It would be easier with the EMX to make dubstep (in my opinion). Yes, you can record "songs" which are sequences of patterns. You can even tell it to automatically start playing the next song when it gets to the end of the last one. It's more fun to tweak live though.

  • Im still confused on all of this recording stuff, like how do you use this through the computer? Do i need an audio interface to play through the computer? and Whats the difference between both electribes?

  • @Skii69skii You can plug it into the line in on your computer. Red one is a sampler (supply your own sounds), blue one is a synth (built in sounds)

  • @Skii69skii u dont need a computer to make songs on these machines, the patterns that u create can be stored inside the machine or on a memorycard, then you would need a model that supports SD cards.

If u want to create songs that u can play live u want the blue one

the red one is used to sample songs that u already created for more effects :)

i use the blue one + kaoss pad for sampling

  • @adelsballen

    Thanks so much man! :D

  • when you purchased this what did it come with? just the console i see there itself or are there other accessories?

  • @MrNOOdlerdoodler Console and power supply and manual. That's about it.

  • hew man,ima cubase/reason user

    wana get into hardware tho.

    how does this work?

a midi controller in or step editing?

  • @MykailoO There are 3 different methods. You can record in real time by tapping pads, you can turn on and off pads in the sequence (for drum sounds), or you can do step editing by advancing 1/16 of a note through the sequence. Or, yes, you can record midi from outside.

  • thanks man this video just helped me tons on what to invest into

  • This is straight up nasty. I'm so impressed by all of the things that the Electribe can do.. I'm looking into getting one myself, but I am a novice.. Which model would you recommend just for making trance/hardstyle type mixes? I'd love to do some dubstep but I'm not gonna get ahead of myself..

  • @RoszkowskiM Hey man, I'd recommend getting the EMX, as it's most accessible. You can make any style with it.

  • sick tunes man! check out my live band, Dubstep Pigeon, we use ESX and EM-1

  • how did you get the voice in there?.... thanks!!

  • @Aveiro The ESX allows you to load any sample by putting it on the smartmedia card.

  • Could I midi sync this w/ ableton live and use it just as a synth and use ableton's sequencer?

  • @stoplightelectro With midi, anything is possible!

  • Hey, i just got both these machines (gready, yes!!). Can you advise how i midi them up and use them together please? cheers. also, i made a quick patten (beat) on the MX last night but couldnt find where to save it and eneded up saving over a pre-set. Surely there's blank space for user patterns? help! cheers mate. daveyP

  • @FuturedaveyP

Two is better than one! Best thing for midi is look in the manual because there are some things you want to turn on and off when you link them. For saving patterns, yeah, you can end up overwriting the built in patterns. There are empty slots at the end of the banks.

  • @rudeog Hey, i just hooked up them up with a midi lead, Sx out to Mx in. When i hit play on the Sx (master) it plays its sequence but seems to have changed the sounds in it maybe taking them fom the Mx (slave). Do i have to change midi channel settings, if so ho, the manual is confussing me (new to midi). Also iv run a cable from the L/mono out of the Sx to the Line in on the Mx and then the output of the Mx to the amp/speaker. Help! haha. Just want them in synch nothing else

  • @FuturedaveyP I don't remember exactly where it is (I'm not at my machine), but in one of the settings pages you see PCEN. You need to turn all of those off. Otherwise whenver you do something on one machine it tries to do a similar thing on the other. You only want the midi for synch not control.

  • What have you name the song?? can i download?

  • @Jus1a1Link I didn't name it and don't have an mp3. However there are a number of sites that let you take the mp3 portion of a youtube video. I can't post the link to one of them, or it will disallow my post, but you can google for them. Try searching for youtube mp3.

  • Thanks for the videos brotha! I've had the EMX for years but I just started tryin to pump out dubstep tracks since I got back from Burning Man a few weeks ago. Your videos have been a huge help. Have you tried using Ableton Live either in conjunction or independent of the EMX? I'm thinking about picking up Ableton Live 7.

  • @aquarius2900 Thanks. I have Ableton v 5. That was the last one I used. It's a great program, but I prefer hardware. I stare at a computer screen all day with my job so I prefer to twiddle knobs when making music.

  • Nice ^^

  • are you playing it threw a guitar amp?

  • @ExcesiveRealityCheck No, it's being played directly into the line-in of my recorder.

  • @rudeog do you know if u can play it threw a guitar amp a jack lead? or does it have to played threw speakers, computers using line in line out only. (no headphone port)

  • @ExcesiveRealityCheck Yes, you can play it through a guitar amp on a 'clean' setting. I've done it before.

  • very nice man

  • schweeeet dude! it's good to see peeps still reppin REAL dub! keep it sleazy man

  • keep up the good work man! nice to see peeps reppin oldskool dub. keepmit sleazy dude

  • your arms more hairy than mine!

  • @GETABAGADRO

    You should see my legs

  • @rudeog do u have a job in music? cos u should if u can play summit tht complicated

  • @GETABAGADRO he comes from the planes of the apes xd

    nice music man (=

  • So does the blue electribe have the dubstep sounds built in? If not what is the best synth or instrument overall to use for making dubstep??

  • @nkesbe

This thing is so full of dubstep! ;-)

If you program it right you can get decent dubstep, however if you want production quality dubstep you are better off doing it on the computer. I think most people do it on the computer these days. As far as what synth people use, I've heard a lot of dubstep folks use Massive now. (I haven't used it though).

  • @nkesbe

any instrument can be used to make any type of music

  • gr8 work man

  • do you use some kinda program? i'm sorry but i don't quite know how this whole thing works but it's really interesting so i'm just wondering how you get to do all these sounds.

  • @Szabmeister

The blue one has only built in sounds. The red one lets you put your own sounds in, in the format of WAV files. So you edit them on the computer first, then copy them on via a flash card.

  • @rudeog thanks mate...i have a microkorg already so would it be better getting the esx which is more of a sampler than the emx? are the programs that you can use to put your own sounds on the esx free?? sorry for all the questions by the way.

  • @Szabmeister

You can use any wave editor (like the free audacity) to chop the waves up. There is a free program called ESX organizer (or something like that) that lets you build sets, but you don't even need that if you just want to get one WAV file across. Or just record directly into it. Yes, the ESX might be better for you since you already have the microkorg which will give you your synth sounds.

  • @rudeog

i'll check them out once i have the money to but an esx. thanks for all the help, i subscribed to you.

  • @rudeog I'm using audacity, taking the sounds from a rythm pad similar to an akai sapler (on a moog emulator patch) and trying to get that fat 'whomp' using the 'wahwah' effect after recording into the software- it's pretty rubbish! Is there a better way of doing it in audacity? Can't find any plugins, and the wah just does a mild ploppy sound.. Grateful for any suggestions :)

  • BULBASAUR!!!!!

  • BUMBACLOT!

  • Could you do all this on the IElectribe (which is basically exactly the same as the Electribe-R)?

  • @evilgreencakebar

I haven't messed with IElectribe (as I don't have an ipad), but from what I've read, it's a beat machine only. Meaning you'd have to turn elsewhere for your bass and other sounds.

  • that is sooooo sick

  • I GOTTA GET ONE OF THOSE!!

  • Hey bro, just wanting to know, really keen in getting one of these electribes, what is the difference between both of them? Is the red one just as good as the emx?

  • They work in pretty much the same way. The red one is a sampler, whereas the blue one is more of a synth/drum machine.

  • @rudeog

as in sampler, do you mean you can have short mp3 files/midi files to play on it?

  • @Tyzilla93

Yep. You'd need to convert them to WAV first though.

  • this is sick but i hate the stupid drum sounds that come with the emx so much, obviously not your fault though

  • how do you automate on the MX1?

  • got that bass down pat for sure :P nice one

  • awesome shit! dude check my stuff!

  • interesting ;)

  • How can you get samples into the EMX besides the ESX?

  • @riproarious you can't you are stuck with the built in sounds.

  • @riproarious Am I better off buying the emx or the esx to make tracks?

  • @riproarious i think you can synthesize your own drum sounds if you know how to. but other than that the emx is not a sampler.

  • i love those samples u have used <3

  • Nice, nice, nice!

    good sound!

  • Perfect!!! Respect MAN!!!!

  • good job man!

  • mr.oizo hah

  • pretty good

not my cup of tea really but good demo of what it can do

  • awesome track! but erase the ride cybal!

  • Pretty sick video. How did you get the vocal sample into the mix? (I'm new with the electribe) & what's the point of using the EMX and ESX together? Aren't they pretty similar?

  • Comment removed

  • funny.. always the same question.

Look.. while the EMX is a synthbased Groovebox, the ESX is a samplebased Groovebox. So you can never load any samples into the EMX, but you can do real Synthsounds, because it got a Synthengine.

On the other hand you got the ESX, you can upload samples to it. The drumsamples it has from the start are just almost similar to the EMXs, but you could also erase all of them and load your own drumsamples or samples of Instruments/Synths on it.

  • some good stuff man! :)

  • link up your electribes via midi!!

  • can u do thatd!!?!?!?+

  • yea i have an emx, kp3 and esx all linked by midi works a treatttt

  • Hi can you please tell whats the difference between the emx and the esx, i'm looking to get an emx to make some dubstep/ drum n base music, is there anyhting i need to know before buying?

  • I just asked the same question about 3 hours ago (another video). Now I know the answer :)

EMX is a synthesizer (sounds produced by MMT synthezis engine)

    ESX sounds are sampled sounds

  • so what 1 do people recommend? i#m looking to make some drum n bass type music

  • in case of these two : knobs and pads are the same. Only the sound is different.

you have to decide what you'd like most sampled sounds, or synth sounds...

listen to demo videos like this one so you hear the difference.

there are also videos where guys show step by step how they make a rythm or something... so you'll see how it works

  • They have different channels man. Electribe has like, 9 drums, 5 synths. ESX has only 2 multi-pitch channels =/. the rest are single hit i think.

  • not stricktly speaking... the EMX is sequenser not a synth but i would recomend the EMX for dnb

  • Comment removed

  • Nice work. Nasty bassline :)

    I like.

  • i luv the vocals when they come in.. sounds like old dub reggae <3

  • Thanks. I grabbed them off one of the CM issue DVD's

  • lush where did u get it? and also does the ESX do everything the EMX does but id more editable and u can use samples?

  • No, the ESX can ONLY work with samples, and cant program synth lines or anything like that. On the other hand the EMX does synths and drums, but CANT work with samples.

  • grr. sounds like the EMX is the beast for me :)

  • I subscribe to it, but you can get it at most book stores. As wearurheart said, you can only work with samples on the ESX, however, you can get two synth's programmed if you load single wave form samples in and loop them. Not as flexible as the EMX for synth, but more flexible for drums.

  • ok thanks for the help u guys hav cleared a few things up that i didnt understand :)

  • @rudeog i lost my manual and i don't know how to load a certain groovebox on my emx...all the preset drum parts, so you dont have to go in by hand and select what you want? how do i do that??

    thanks so much

  • ummmmmm are you a shikari fan? first off, all i can say is, dont get one just cus rou has one cus ITS NOT THAT EASY. secondly, i think the ESX is JUST for samples (research it) the EMX is just wave manipulation.

  • yes i am.. but the fact rou has one doesn't make a difference ive already got a MicroKORG and MiniKP and i want a drum machine that also has sequenced synth and this seems pretty perfect for what i want it for :)

  • nice tune! how do you get that siern kind of noise on synth part 3 i think ?

  • Thanks. I'll have to go back and see if I still have the patch. I know that probably the pitch is modulated slowly.

  • OMG I DO Love IT!!!

  • Really great. I've got an esx and i'm so far from gettig those sounds....damnit!!

    ;)

  • awsome, 3:56 rulez

  • unbelievable, fucking love it

  • great beat, good work! :)

  • some of the better 'tribe stuff i've seen on here. good job.

  • i cant get enough of that sick bass its just mental !!! how long the song take u to program ?

  • Thanks. I think this one took a few hours before I was happy with it.

  • What BPM is this track ?

  • 140.1

  • filthy i love it

  • wow ... i'm working on dubstep but i'm not really in this kind of music ... your sound is very cool =)

  • very very very well done :D

  • is it worth the money ?

  • its easy worth the money

  • Sounds Great. Now that's my kinda dubstep

  • Damn that nasty square bass at 1:25 is just amazing. I never really tried dub step on my tribe you've inspired me to do some experimenting. That was great.

  • nice work, diggin the froggy effect right der

  • should get more wobble bass in there, thats the basis of dubstep init

  • check out my dubstep (esx) track? I liked yours man espeacially the bass

  • badass

  • bumbaclot is a jamaican colloquialism for bum cloth.
