i think being a good singer needs to have a good diction and pronunciation.. my music teacher said that if you are singing and you cant pronounce the words properly its also referred as to not singing it right....

Yes pronunciation is important but it goes to the limit of people understanding the words that's being sung. I think we all can understand what Joy is saying here in this video. If we cant understand it, that means she's not singing it right. But in here, she definitely sang it right.
considering that this is a competetion , though its pretty much understandable that english is not the native language but since she decided to sing that song, she should have exerted effort to master the song and the language.. there are a lot of singers who cant understand and communicate in english but when they sing an english song, they can pronounce it right...
The contestants have to learn new songs to perform each week. They probably only got several hours each day to practice with the coach. I think when you're saying that Joy should've mastered the song is a little exaggerating. I mean just admit it, she did a well done job right?
And also, you have to understand that if English is not your native language, you would probably have an accent. For all I know, Joy knows English pretty well but who knows maybe what you're hearing in this video is because of her accent and not because she doesn't know how to sing it right.

Agreed, I just recently watched Joy on here again and I forgot how good she is! IMO, she's even in par with world class singers like Whitney Houston or Christina Aguilera. Err and abt the upcoming Asian Idol...I think Joy would beat the heck outta all the other Asian Idols no problem if she hadn't signed out on her Idol status. Joy's still the best Indonesian Idol ever and shame that the producers failed to reckon this.
Joy is currently making an album in US. Well, I'm not sure bout what she's up to but her father said so. She didn't sign the label, that's why we see her rarely whether on TV or any media. IMO, she spends most of her career singing christian songs. I mean she rather serves the Lord than produces albums (she's realeased many though :) )
She has a great voice. I'm Filipino and I think this girl is awesome and definitely better than Sarah Geronimo. She made the song her own which is a sign of a true artist, unlike Sarah who copied Celine Dion.

Not all pinoys have that attitude. As I've mentioned before, I prefer this girl to Sarah, because she's original. Plus I prefer the dark, rounded voice that she has. Sarah can sing but I don't feel she has something original. She's not a true artist!
Hi aleabeleda, I just heard Sarah's version. She's good, and with such young age, she could be great star. And she did nail this song. But I prefer Joy's version. I prefer Joy's roundness of tone, and Sarah sounded a bit thin on certain parts. But then again she hasn't developed her voice fully. anyway, both are great singers.
Goodness, pinoybigbuboy, you either need to check your ear, or ask others the definition of good vocal control! She has great vocal control with good improvisation skill. Maybe a bit too much vibrato, but so what? Vibrato is not the only factor. And this performance is no way near shaky!
best season ever!! after season 2, it has turned out to be a shitty popularity contest instead of singing contest. too bad.
