  • so come on back and see just what you guys mean to us.

  • Perhaps it's no real surprise to hear Dan sing one of George's songs, given they both seem to have a deeply loving and spiritual nature about them.

    I miss them dearly.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • I saw Dan live in concert over 100 times during the course of his career...and this song at his acoustic concert is one of the most profoundly touching ever...it never fails to bring tears to my eyes...thank you for sharing....

  • the most perfecr song....ever

  • I saw Dan four or five time live....he alway spoke to us.

  • MY GOD, HOW BEAUTIFUL!! THANKS AGAIN BEGGARSGAME...

  • Miss you Dan, miss you George!

  • two of my favourite guys....RIP Dan and George....

  • I saw Dan play this song at the Murat Theater in Indy a few shows before this show was taped. I have been looking for this song since I heard it for over 13 yrs now and I was so excited when I found it here.

  • So if you have a 12 string guitar and remove 6 strings (one from each of the 6 pairs)

then it would sound like a Nashville tuned guitar?

  • DAN THE MAN !!!

  • As one comment said, George's version might be better but, Dan's arrangement is as original an arrangement of another performer's song as any I've heard. And the way he sung it, if you didn't know better, you would think it was a Dan original. Just beautiful. Miss ya Dan!

  • This was done so beautifully. You can tell the reverence in which he held the Beatles by his version here.

  • This had such a build-up but George Harrison does it much better. I hate saying that since I love Dan F.

  • WOW!!! Simply amazing. Dan need to be in the Rock Hall!!!!

  • Read on WikiAnswers/Who Dated Who that Dan sang this for a woman he was totally in love with. Always been a fan of the man and always thought he had a secret woman in his life who was the inspiration behind a lot of songs. ie The Minstrel. Anyone live in New Hope PA who knows her? Or know where theres a picture of her?

  • Maybe he has a muse that came to him in his dreams who inspired much of his music? He was such a spiritual man that it was likely his inspiration was diivnely inspired. What better way to reach him than through a woman who consistently was in his dreams.

  • Sweet song. Both are missed.

  • I like him, too.I also miss him for the truly talented musician he was.I used to br really into the metal scene and largely ignored him.Funny how tastes changes when you're older....

  • GEE my new favorite singer, just so beautiful wow!

    Eddie Black

  • U should check out the PBS tribute to GH:. Paul, Ringo, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, etc.. blah blah blah

  • So right what he said about how John Lennon and Paul Mc Cartney got most of the credits for the Beatles' songs - but George Harrison wrote some great ones too ! ( like this one, which Dan played his own version of here)

  • OMG, I never heard this! As I replay this w/tears streaming down my face, it reminds me of how I always felt that this beautiful man had a 'hole' in his heart, that nothing & no one ever filled. God willing, it's complete now. But for not that 'hole'...Oh, the music we would all have missed out on! Hauntingly Beautiful combo of Dan & George. Thank You So Much! We all have a hole now that you're gone Dan. I still miss you. & Tony....& all that was never said, or heard.....j

  • there will always be a "you" shaped hole in my heart. Love you baby...I need you.

  • Dan Fogelberg's beautiful voice, George Harrison's stunning lyrics - heady, heavenly combination. I love this song so much...

  • After a long but thoughtful spoken intro, I was expecting somewhat more respect towards the beautiful harmonies of the original Harrison tune. The intro to sounds of silence is awesome, but not if repeated 200 times throughout a whole song.

  • Thank you,Beggersgame,I'm alaways impressed by your contributions.

  • Angels voice and spirit too soon taken from our company. Still crying one year later. Beautiful man.

  • the face of an angel too...

  • What an amazing performance. We were listening thru headphones and it sounds like thunder deep in the background. Was wondering where this was recorded.

  • I sure get a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes listening to this. It's been almost a year since Dan had to leave on 12/16. This song really makes me miss him. I wish he would have had more time in his Maine life with Jean before departing. Thank you to The Living Legacy and Jean for keeping DanFans in the loop and keeping his art and memory alive. Dan's music was and is a good friend of mine. Bless his soul!

  • Beggarsgame as you know it's coming up on a year now since Dan departed. Autumn into Winter is always a reflective time in one's life and I always turn to Dan's music to take the time. You have posted some gems in Dan's work. Things I didn't have access to when I bought the albums. It's been great catching with the man and I want to thank you for sharing. I think I might even give the 6 string tuning a turn when next I string up my guitar. Peace and love to all who remember Dan Fogelberg.

  • Just cried again for the first time after nearly 12 months.

  • WOW! Beautiful transcending version of a early Beatles classic. speechlesss

  • Oh, that voice! It can still bring me to tears! I miss you, Dan!

  • Just like his other George Harrison covers of "Here Comes the Sun" and "If I Needed Someone", that was simply fabulous.

  • Thanks Dan, I still remember the first time I heard your voice...it was magical...

  • "Isn't it lovely?" - Dan says this with such feeling! His voice is full of wonder - delightful to hear! Love the whole post. Thank you.

  • Love this!! I love hearing him speak to the audience, love his humor, love his magical guitar, love his singing. There's nothing about our Dan I don't love.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I still feel Dan's absence in this world so profoundly at times. His sweet soul and the beauty of his music lives on, yet I miss the "nearness" of one who touched my life so deeply. I keep returning to this song and I just want to reach out to Jean with a kind embrace as I watch my own husband battle with advanced cancer. Sometimes I feel so afraid, especially when I realize how very much I need him. When I need to cry, I come to Dan's 'I Need You.' beggarsgame, thank you ...again. ~ RileysGirl

  • Hang in there fellow DanFan. Bless you and your husband. Hugs across time and space.

  • Your blessings and hugs reached us, writingtome. Thank you.

  • Just simply beautiful...just like the man! Miss you so, Dan!

  • Does anyone know if this was recorded in a studio? Absolutely one of the best live recordings Dan has ever made. So deep and haunting, so heartfelt and woven with love. I miss Dan's presence on this Earth so much.

  • Great, great stuff. Beautiful rendition of George's song. And a great little guitar tip that I will certainly try. Nashville Hi-Strung...excellent...

  • Hugs right back at ya! I have to listen at least once a week to this download. As I said, I loved the way he played. This particular video has really helped in the healing of this sad soul of mine. Thanks for putting out here for us all to enjoy.

  • I needed to stop by and visit Beggarsgame. I needed some sparkle in my life and knew this would fix the situation.I love the way he plays!! Why did this man's music affect me so much? Noone else's music, came close to the feelings that I have, except for the Beatles songs.I felt I had found a kindred spirit within Dan, and not so much with the Beatles as individuals.I am the moth to Dan's flame, and what a flame it is!! Thank god,he was in our lives!

  • That is sweet and beautiful Amy! ((Hugs))

  • @asquare176 Dan's music touched me the most! Jackson Browne's music touched me almost as much, or more, depending on the songs! Both are my favorite singer/songwriter,musicians! Sincerely, BobbyK

  • FYI DanFans; August 13th which would be Dan's 57th birthday, a tribute concert benefiting the PCF will be held in Sellersville,PA. at the Sellerville Theatre. Go to the Living Legacy website or go through Dan's website to connect to it. Get all information on the concert. Headcaseworker and I got tickets.

  • Yes, we did and we are so excited to see this tribute! Amy, you rock! Anyone else in the area, we would love you to join us!

  • Thanks for the compliment! I am very excited too! I just like it to be a huge success for the PCF and for the celebration of Dan's life and his career in the music industry.

  • He was already dating Jean, so I hope it was for her. I prayed every day after hearing he was sick that he would recover. A man of his talent and goodwill towards nature, people, animals, etc... should have lived to be a thousand years old, right? I have to at least be thankful for his time here, and his music.

  • THANK YOU!!! What a beautiful, beautiful performance of George's song! Just as he sings "Here Comes the Sun" on his live CD. Always brings me to tears when you hear Dan say "See you next year". If only that were true....

  • I feel the same Gail, about this song. I keep coming back to this. In the back of mind,I always felt that this song was either for Jean or Anastasia. I think it's for both for many reasons. It's all to sad.

  • This one made me cry and I keep playing it over and over. What a giant gap he left in our hearts; even though listening to the music seems to fill it somewhat, I wish I could just see him perform one more time...

  • How beautiful. Thank you, beggarsgame. God bless you, Dan.

  • On the cd,Something Old,Something New,Something Borrowed and some Blues, Dan does a cover by George H.,Here Comes the Sun. It awesome! Who knows, someone may download it some day. How gut wrenching is this song?I love that sparkling sound that he gives to this song. He truly made everyone that was present at his concerts, just sparkle too. He was a rare gem, indeed!

  • Dan was just pure magic!!!!

  • What can one NOT say about Dan.....

  • Beautiful....thanks Donna!!! I saw Dan on this tour the night after, in Seattle, and remember this song fondly. Thank you, Thank you

  • I've listened so many times since this was uploaded - I just can't get enough. This song means so much to me and to hear it through Dan is just heavenly.

I really don't know how to thank you, beggarsgame and pbrud, for these wonderful gifts. They are treasured.

  • A set of 12 string guitar strings. Theres 12 of them. Dan forever a Minstrel to all DanFans. Cool huh? Oh yes!!!!!!!!

  • I heard him sing this live. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard him sing in concert. Brought tears to my eyes.

  • Wonderful!!! Brillant !! Thank you for sharing & please pass my Thanks to PBRUD.

  • I just love listening to Dan talk to the audience, he not only entertained, he enlightened and educated. Thank you for posting these lovely treasures.

  • Dan could make any guitar sound magical! I love listening to him just messing around with a melody while talking with the crowd.Could sit for hours just watching him play the guitar.God,he was awesome!A lovely tune, one hell of a gut wrenching song! The tears are swelling inside of me.

Thanks for the post, Donna. Means the world to me.I saw him in concert in 2002, and this brings back such special memories of that night. Thank you PBRUD, for your generous contribution for making this possible.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this!!

I'm a big George and Dan and fan and think they make a graat pair with the heartfelt songs.I bet they are singing and strumming together right now! RIP !!

  • I agree that Harrison was in the shadow of John and Paul, but he wrote some of their finest. Dan really is powerful on this song. If you can listen to this and not be moved...

  • Just a quick note on this one: I've been keeping a guitar Nashville strung for a many years now, something I'd picked up off Ellis Paul. When I first heard Dan's version of this, I ran downstairs, tuned up to pitch and learned it note for note. It was a magic moment, like stepping back into the '70's when I'd play a cut off Homefree or Souvenirs over and over to learn it... So this song was an exceptional gift from above for me. I hope it will inspire other players out there, too.

  • Thanks for sharing this. It truely is a gift.

  • Thank you again for posting another great video. This is such a great song.

  • THIS IS GREAT!! THANK YOU

  • Oh My!!! I will come to YouTube whenever I'm feeling bad and listen to this. Thank you Beggarsgame and PBRUD. You both make us DanFan grateful and happy! When it comes to Dan, how can I yearn for someone I've never met? Crazy! I guess it shows what a special human being Dan was for so many in this world. What a brilliant star for eternity, shining bright. Thank you again for this video. I've been listening to Dan for over three decades and will until they lay me in my coffin.

  • simply amazing!

  • awesome! thank you!

  • This conjures such profound melancholy....right straight to the heart.

  • Wow!!
