I love how it cuts back and forth from Kinski putting on his make-up, its as if Kinski's voice over isn't him being interviewed but it's his him thinking in his head.
I like the film, in fact actually I think its great. But it appears to me the actors were instructed to deliberately overact or otherwise look ridiculous. The overall effect is so weird it becomes great , like Ed Wood. The music and the images really make this film. It's basically an extended videoclip.
@SinAutor It's from the finale of Mahler's second symphony, and in this context it's kind of sly and darkly funny that they used it, because that symphony is known as as the "Resurrection" symphony, and this creepy undead is slamming the lid of the skull box shut on it at the very end without letting it play out.
Herzog and Kinski were geniuses. If I were Megan Fox, I would watch filmwork by Isabelle Adjani. Stunning beauty who could have wound up in porn films but held out for being a professional actress.
Yeah, but not in this film. Don't get me wrong I like the film, actually think its great. But it appears to me the actors were instructed to deliberately overact or otherwise look ridiculous. @xavierbaudet It's a piece of camp with big production values. No matter what you make of the film, its Herzog's vision. Klaus Kinski is a brilliant character actor.
@xavierbaudet it harkens back to the 'silent era' when overacting was necessary due to lack of sound. videoclip may not be the correct term... video is not relevant to this.
I have had the privilege of watching this film with Werner Herzog himself-- he sighed and muttered about the scratches in the print. The film has a spellbinding quality, like a strange dream.

ive noticed they were speaking english while rolling, is there any english version???
anotheronenlightened 3 years ago
yeah, they shot the movie twice.
I was so amazed when I found that out. If you buy the dvd you get both versions!
hidetolove 2 years ago
Yes, they shot an English version but it is not as good as the German, possibly becasue the actors are not as comfortable in English.
