  • so cool

  • hey man awesome job. i cant get vmware working yet. im running feisty with beryl. any pointers? thanks man

  • Cool! Could you please message me and tell me how you got compiz working in vmware? I'm running Sabayon in vmware with a windows xp host. I read that it wasn't possible in vmware because the hardware acceleration doesn't work. I'm new to linux so please don't get too technical! Thanks.

  • quick question: is your xp os running in a partition using vmware?

  • how come my desktop effects wont open?

every time i click enable desktop effects it says it couldnt be enabled

  • Maybe you asked this question in the compiz-forum

    (beyl doesn't exist anymore)

    "forum(dot)compiz(dot)org"

  • hey bro, awesome job, can you please please tell me how you got vmware working? ive been at it for weeks, im running ubuntu feisty with beryl (which roxx).

anyway, cool vid, thanks in advance :)

  • nice... i have the same thing but with OSX too running on PearPC. It really blows my hardware when i start them all together ;)

btw, if you are experiencing freezing or slowness on beryl switch to compiz, it's much lighter and more stable, i successfully ran it on 32 MB graphics card... the performance is amazing!

  • There isn't a very big difference between beryl and compiz, in fact the core of beryl and compiz are to 90% the same.

Thats also one reason because the devs want to remerge the two projects.

  • Actually, as far as i know, Beryl is simply the new version of compiz.

  • No, beryl was a fork of compiz, and now the two projects are remerge because the problems which caused the fork were removed.

  • compiz fusion is simply the new version of beryl

  • You can dual boot. It's just harder with vista. Some versions of linux dont recognize it. Ubuntu Feisty and Edgy add vista to the GRUB loader though, if you have an extra partition. And dont try partition magic with vista, cuz its a new kind of NTFS filesystem and it F#$%s up. Trust me.

  • is there anyway to get Vista and this on the same computer (almost like bootcamp but i dont want OSX)

  • how do you do this? I just saw this (browsing youtube)

  • I use a gentoo-linux os with kde.

As window-manager I use beryl and

    windows is running under vmware.

Looking Glass is an Java DE from Sun,

which also runs in window mode.

  • you really got me. when having watched this video the first time, I thought you wanna present this all on a windows host os, and running everything else in a guest vm.

however, I wonder what distro you're using, and how you got LG into it ;)

unfortunately a little bit _too_ short your movie, and yet really impressive. But I'm missing some background music that acompanies while watching it ;)

  • Looking Glass is written in Java, thus the Java icon.

  • amazing, seeing this running all at one time, i wanna do that, gonna look for those toys after the exams ;-) Thx for the idea.

(were there any problem making Looking Glass and Berly at the same time?)

    Tom

  • No, I only had to start Looking Glass in a Window

    "/usr/share/lg3d/bin/lg3d-dev -f"

Then there should be no conflicts.

  • at me it didn't freeze, but the 3D effektz were slowed down cuz I only have a 128 MB, AGP gpu and 512 RAM... it also needz a lot more applications to become more attractive to userz...

  • oooh Looking Glass is sick!!!!

  • tested it, lux nice but still needs tune-ups. needs a good video card with at least 128 MB...WM virtu lux kewl

  • That's true...I've tried on a couple of systems and it freezes constantly...

  • what is that with the java icon???
