I love how people comment how they can get a older 'nicer' car for less. To me that just shows that those cars don't hold any value. I'd rather have a new SHO than a washed up viper that makes me look like I'm just trying to keep up with the jones's.
oh and FYI a base vette is 50k which is about 12k higher than the SHO and atleast you can talk the guy down some. I got the dealer to go to 35k GL doing that with a vette.

@peopleareknowitalls its an expression. Since you know it all, what must a car do to blow the doors off another? The Chrysler is faster in a straight line, faster on the track, cheaper, and half a decade older and its still better.
Just ran my SHO this past Fri. at NE Dragway and ran a 13.08. There was a new SRT8 Challenger there running the same ETs as my SHO. Not too bad for a 4500 lb family car.
a taurus sho doesnt even cost 40,000 thats only when you have options of your choice it starts at 37,000 i know this because i was going to get a taurus sho with sunroof etc, but that would have made it 41 so i went with a black limited
@mtfowl Yea the Vette might be couple thousand more then the $40,000 price tag for the sho but the vette you can only have one other person in the car with you the SHO you can have 3 other people and still have some good fun in this car that is the point of the SHO
@79fordmustang thats cool you can get the vette for $50k so i will put $10k in mods in the sho which should put it in the 10's which will beat a $50k vette. i have seen sho's with a tune and cold air run 12.90 so add full exhaust, bigger intercooler, turbos, better clutch and better fuel system which would be around $10k and it would be faster then the vette in dry,wet or snow covered streets with all your friends in it. but the vette is a looker!!!
@79fordmustang It dont matter how many people you can fit in the car. Once you say I own a Vette or say I own a Viper, youll have them waiting to ride. But if they hear you say I own a Ford Taurus (you could even say SHO), theyll just shrug there shoulders and walk away
@79fordmustang and for $32,000 you can get a 2011 Mustang GT with 415HP and it does 12.9 on the 1/4 mile lets see the Vette Grand Sport with 430HP and 12.5 in the 1/4 mile 4 $59,000 less then $4,000 in that SHO and it will be in low 12's
@mtfowl yeah, but u are in 2 different cars, one is comfortable, and the other is a vette. silly people. apples to oranges, 2 different cars for different peoples needs.
@peopleareknowitalls Dude nobody Needs a Viper, nobody NEEDS a corvette.it is one of 3 things.you have a lot of money and want women to look at your car not your small dick.two, your say 40 or 50 years old re-living a time in your life.or three, you love cars, old cars, new cars, european cars, japan cars, muscle cars,so called "ricers",or trucks.and if u love cars you wouldn't say your corvette would shit on any ford.and im talking to the people in general so don't take this the wrong way.
@edw125238A base SHO is $38,595 (w/o taxes) WIth this you may get a older car but you can only take one other person with you its better to show 3 people at once then one and with a 3.6 eco boost engine it will not waste gas like the viper's v10. you also can live with the SHO as a daily driver unlike the viper.
@edw125238 Yeah dude, because the taurus and the viper are in the same class of car. *eye roll*
A viper for $40,000? I could get 4 decent hayabusas for that which would all be faster than the viper. And a motorcycle has about the same practicality compared to a viper as the viper does to the taurus.
I.. just dont see paying 40k for a Ford Sedan as the smartest thing to do. it's going to depricate in value so fast that you'll be upside down on your loan within a year or less.
@edw125238 Yeah, honestly I'll probably never buy a new car. Get one thats ~2 or 3 years old and let the previous owner take the hit on the depreciation. And I can wait for the 2010 SHO price to drop. I had a 94 SHO that cost 600 bucks lol
@mtfowl Just put a boost conroller in it and it'll keep up with the vette. I'd rather have the SHO. Vette are like civics, everybody has one and they all look the same.
@mtfowl Like you would have the money for either one. Keep driving your 79 Chevy 1/2 ton POS and don''t disrespect other people who appreciate good cars!
@mnstrtq Just ran my SHO - the one in this video - last Wed. at NE Dragway and ran a 13.16 at 105.47 MPH with a minor 30 HP tune. Rest of the tune should provide consistent ETs in the 12 second range. Happened to beat a new Camaro SS as well.

@Nethark get that car there later in the season with the coldest possible temperatures outside. Use racing fuel....that car will run it's fastest times!! I ran 11.9 at 119.99 in a stock clk 63 amg convertible because of the temps. it was 37 degrees out. good luck!
good effort. but im saddened to see that here in Australia this engine will be the replacment for our inline 6, sadly the V6 dosent measure up, no offence to ford usa, but our inline 6 has it all over the V6, mild mods and out rwd cars run low 11's more mods on unopend engines and ppl are doing 9's stock my car YES STOCK luxury sedan in 12.8 for the 1/4
Damn 13.9 is good. I knew that all the car reviews were wrong they all posted times of like 14.5 I knew they were not pushing it. Damn car mags always being biased.
The taurus SHO has always been a charismatic, unexpected sleeper of a vehicle. Seen some surprised looks in the rear view miror driving the old SHO's back in the day.
I don't like replacing displacement with expensive moving parts and impellers, but I will always respect the SHO. That said, I'll stick with my 99 C5. Wheelhop sucks but oh well.
Your turbo M3 must be an awesome car. If you review the Motor Trend web site you will see performance numbers for the new SHO as well as the G37X - a more apples to apples as both cars are AWD. The SHO outperformed the G37X in all acceleration and braking numbers and both cars did the figure 8 in exactly the same time.
It's a different animal that's for sure.....All the times I seen posted from other mags had the G37 on top......Motor Trend while one of my fav mags is a bit bias at times
No offense to anybody that bought this car. But ford doesn't make anythign good except there trucks and at the the f-150 after a few years are nothing but junk. If you buy ford buy a diesel and at that you will need a transmisson every 100,000 miles. For a TT V6 i would expect better. But at that the cobra does run much better times unless you put slicks on it. So i am not a believer in fords. like the lightning made for small penis guys who need somethign else to brag about.
Except that the FIRST year the redesigned Mustang was released it had ZERO defects for 100 cars in initial quality. Yep, they make JUNK for sure Mr.Expert.
can you tell me what RWD car that has 390 Stock HP doesn't see Traction problems coming off a line? Apparently Americans as well as foreigners think that Ford has stepped up their game, I mean they Just reported a $1 billion profit in this quarter, and mind you they did not recieve any bail out money. This is a Luxury car, that goes fast for it's weight (4200 lbs). Imagine this engine in a V6 Mustang. Funny thing is, Ford produces high quality for way cheaper than imports and we still complain.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
IN N.A> the real reason for Ford's uptick on market share is that Gm and Chrysler have one foot in the grave, and even the dumbest, fattest, hillbillies know not to buy one of those heaps. As a global entity, Ford can work the repatriated dollars ,and move money forward or backwards in to any quarter they want. Good move pretending to show a profit, since they have so much tax-exempt losses to counter. Plus, it further gives the illusion of a strong rebound. Watch the cashflow. $3B infusion soon
I think its funny when people say they hate fords, because they steal money and shit, which is funny, because they didnt accept bailout money. fords rock, and ford haters are lame ignorant people, who are just mad, because they bought a prius, or a civic. HAHA!! dumbasses.
@dweezle00 Ford received a $23.5 billion loan in 2006, before the other 2 needed a bail out loan, which due to interest, among other things, has made it's way to $34.3 billion in debt. Though they do handle their finances well afterward, can't say the same for GM, and put out well pieced cars these days.
Typical Ford spin doctors at work. First they wanted to get a $3B cash infusion from a combination of new investor of their stock, and a delay in some of the current debt they hold. Then when they only got $2.5B of takers, they changed their press releases to say their $2B request was OVER subscribed and that they got $2.5B. Now that almost all of the news outlests are so poor that they've cut their staff, no one does any fact checking, to catch the mistakes. BTW Monkey, I'm not "MADE"...
damn they're nice.. but they should have done something about the weight issue. 4,500+ lbs.. they could have done better than that. but stock high 13's doesn't exactly suck tho. I'll stick with my 1995 taurus GL for now lol. still running strong at 125K.
And yes my sho is welded reason it still goes very strong. I would get a 2010 sho but I will wait a few years for them to work out the bugs plus it will be alot cheaper
While it's not what you'd typically expect out of a 365 hp vehicle, you have to consider what you're dealing with here. A pretty large, heavy family sedan. And honestly, a 13.9@100 is impressive to me. Look at what happens when you start modifying SRT-4s, 03/04 Cobras, or just about ANY Stock F/I car. Things get crazy fast for substantially lower amounts of money than 'most' N/A counterparts. Someone take that motor out and put it in a '93 Taurus Wagon, I'd be game!
That's very VERY impressive. I'll bet it was on a 'fair to average' 60' time as well. The car's aren't all-whee drive are they? And I'm sure the stock stall is not too high either on a car like that. I'd imagine JUST a stall, tune, and DR's and they're running mid 12's...VERY stout...maybe not for a 40K dollar car, but for a large 4 door Ford Taurus, I'd say it'd do its fair share of embarrassing sports cars.
The SHO is AWD - my best 60' time was 2.048. Car weighs 4500 lbs with driver. I just bring the revs up a bit as the lights come down and leave it in drive. There is a SHO running 12.75 at 108 with just a tune and after market wheels/tires that are probably lighter than stock. There are no performance parts for these cars yet - tuners are working on their tunes which should be on the market fairly soon. Hennessey will be bringing out some tunes/parts which I expect will be quite stout.
Yes, I went to TIRE RACK & compared tires. Stock SHO tires are good, but, there are MUCH better tires out there, & yes, some performance firms have a few tweaking goodies already for the SHO - mid 12's are very doable.
there are no performance parts for the car because its more like a superfamily car. the parts on it are performance parts. its impressive for what it is....one of the more shocking things i brought into my stall @ the shop.
Parts will be coming from Hennessey and others which, I believe, will make this an 11 sec. car. One is already running 12.75 with just a tune and aftermarket wheels/tires that reduce unsprung weight. My bone stock SHO has turned 13.63.
Hennessey is planning (or maybe already came out with) a performance upgrade for it. I hope they took care of the toy brakes that are on this thing...
There will be brake upgrades available as well put please note that in stock form, per Motor Trend test numbers, the SHO stopped from 60 mph in 112 ft. compared with 120 ft. for the G37x and 125 ft. for the Audi A6. While the stock SHO brakes may not be perfect, it seems that they are quite competitive with other 4 door performance sedans.
Thats funny cuz they show the ford sho on edmunds 60-0 was 124 and the g37 was 60-0 was 112 and they show that sho running 14.2@99.1 and the g37 was 13.8@101.4 drop a twin turbo kit on that g37 and you would have 500hp
My bone stock SHO turns 13.63 at 102. Motor Trend and Car & Driver got basically the same performance numbers from the SHO for acceleration, braking, etc. - take a look at their websites. Both magazines also tested the G37X which did not quite match the SHO's performance numbers. There are a few SHOs with just an early tune turning, low 13 sec., high 12 sec. ets - best being 12.75 @ 108.
try that brake test 4 times in a row without a cool down period, and then get back to me with the averages...All the reviewers ragged on the lame brakes...
like the person on the Jalopnik website...go there and serach on SHOCRASH. a perfect example of how one ar company can somehow manage to combine both ridiculous vehicle weight, with enormously high plastic content on the outer shell.
This wreck was caused when a car stopped short, the Tuarus couldn't stop in time, and then the car behind the SHO "TAPPED" it at 5 mph...they TOTALLED the car...If you gotta buy the SHO, buy GAP insurance!
@blueskysiii *applauds* Wow, way to exaggerate the story. There was no released data on how fast any of the vehicles were going. In the case that is apparent, the Taurus stopped because a car in front stopped. It would be following due to the crash images, that someone rear ended the Taurus between 20 and 30 mph, pushing it forward, hitting the other car. And technically, the Taurus wasn't totalled since it was an "M" plate, and it was returned to Ford.
@TheZachalope 20-30 mph my butt! The back seat would be in the front seat if it had been that fast...American cars these days crumple, to save lives (and sheet metal).
And really....who cares what kind of a license plate it has on it? it was still a total lose, as the car will not be sold with a non-salvage title...derr
@Blueskysii If you had done any research, which I suppose you haven't like normal, you would know that crash testing for the Taurus meets NHTSA standards at 5mph, therefore, that type of damage would not occur at 5mph.
Also, if a car has an "M" plate on it, the car won't be sold anyways. It will end up scrapped after the testing phase is completed.
Are you attempting to imply that "NHTSA 5 mph standards" somehow means the amount of damage to the car would not be as bad as the photos at jalopnik? The TS stands for Transportation Safety, and has nothing to do with how expensive the repair is at 5mph...Maybe u r the one that needs more research. This car is an overpriced Edsel-in-waiting, and the sales numbers are already proving it. Buy this at your own financial peril...BTW, those puny 9 inch brake discs explain why it didnt stop in time
No, I'm implying that there is no way in hell that the amount of damaged shown in those photos would be caused by 5mph of travel. Plus, it's the IIHS that determines repair value after crash impact, not the NHTSA.
So then you agree with me that your original discussion of the NHTSA rating had nothing to do with what actual damage or what a car looks like from the outside after a wreck. Thank you.
If you look at the wheel base of this car, it's not anywhere near the length of say a BMW 7 series (120.9). It's only 112.9 inches, yet ends up 4 inches longer than the BMW.
How? all that hollow plastic exterior molding and styrofoam underpanel work that implodes on impact.Just a typical Ford design.
@blueskysiii Actually you might find a 2010 SHO for 14k, maybe at a police auction, or from an insurance company with a R title because half the car is burnt to the ground.
These cars will hold their value, even if it were a Saab(worst resale ever, I know...) it would still be worth 30k easily, likely more. I own a 2010 SHO with the 12S package, and KBB says mine is still worth 39.5, so....yeah. Good luck with that :)
hhahaha, love the comment,, saabs are the worst,,,, my buddy is a saab mechanic,, and he says hel never get laid off,, theres just WAY to much work, lol
Yeah I traded a Saab Viggen toward the SHO. I loved the performance, and incredible comfort and driveability, but my god they're so fragile, after a while I was just....scared of breaking down every day, got fed up with the anxiety, and when I saw a domestic with 365 DI TT HP, plus AWD... Well that took care of that.
I kept the '95 2.0T, too much invested to sell it, but it's not a daily driver so it's okay, hell not even registered or insured lol.
MAybe you missed my point. My point was that if you plan to do any aggressive sunday driving (other than drag racing like this guy) then you WOULD be applying the brakes hard entering the twists and turns. Many of the reviews outlined this failure, and I was merely repeating it. That''s all...oh, except this car is too expensive, compared to nearly all of its Asian counterparts...
I agree that the SHO brakes would need an upgrade to improve performance in the road racing environment. For normal driving, though, I still prefer the car with the shortest stopping distance. Those who do not plan to road race will be fine and those who do will probably upgrade the brakes.
which all kind of winds back around to my original point...Who is going to pay over $40K for a car that needs upgrading right out of the chute? Asian car companies (and Europeans too...heck even FORD of Europe) seem to be able to put together a total package....Ford US can't even seem to get their friggin sheet metal to match the wheel sizes they offer...it's just sad, really...IT's just SAD!
They have the Impala SS. Actually, I'd suspect the Impala to be a competent competitor in performance, even though its some 6K less. however, the Taurus is a monumentally better vehicle than the quick but crude Chevrolet. The Taurus is better made, more luxurious, slightly better performance and is well worth the extra money.
I believe that the Impala SS has only 303 HP and a 4 speed auto with no AWD option. Although lighter than a new SHO, I do not think it will compete from a performance perspective.
porsche911sbs mentioned the Impala SS as a potential competitor for the SHO. The GXP is a very fast car and the G8GT is quick as well and easy to modify. Tests in C&D and Motor Trend indicated that, off the showroom floor, the performance numbers for the SHO and G8GT are very close.
I think the first weak point in these SHOs will be the Trans. NO Taurus trans has ever been good. Would make a great daily driver but I still would rather have an STI, EVO, or MS3.
I think Ford couldn't have done any better on the syling and I can't wait to see what a tune, intake, and exhaust do to this thing.
My 1998 Taurus is on 115k miles with everything stock except oil, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, fluids, ect. So i guess i got a good apple out of the bunch.
The taurus was a great car, the only american 4 door to beat camry, maxima, and the crew back in the early 90's. I've got one with 186,000 with spark plugs from 100,000 miles ago. People can talk all the crap they want, I'll get in my taurus and go to work tomorrow.
I wish I could tell that to my 95 Taurus GL that had so many problems, especially the brakes. It was one of the last ones made in that body style and a lot of the drivetrain was from the new 96 body style. Always had to buy 95 & 96 parts to work on it because you never knew what was going to fit.
Mach46 is right. Basically, all Taurus Transmissions so far have S-U-C-K-E-D! That's why you have to go through so much crap to get Gens1 through 3 SHO to perform.
Mods shouldn't be expensive for this car. Chips for will probably start under $1,000 and will likely give it another 50-100hp like the juicebox does for the BMW 335i.
good run.. styling sucks. if you want to sell a performance sedan. you must have aggressive styling. for example PONTIAC G8. that taurus look like it could be a cop car...lol
All the fleet agencies are balking at this as the replacement to the Crown Vic. The VIC was built on a "body-on-frame" structure that allowed for easy repair of dog hous, body panels etc. This unibody design means every time a cop car pulls the PIT manuever, he risks totaling the car! Frame is too weak for police work...Ford is gambling that won't matter...or maybe Ford decided they don't want the low margin fleet biz...Carbon cars are WAY too expensive...
Nethark, you should YouTube G8 GT, go to the 4th one down from the top...2008 Dodge Charger R/T vs Pontiac G8 GT. You'll see bone stock the G8 GT runs a 13.6 at 105mph. My point being that almost everyone who buys the G8 GT mods it. Throw an even moderate Cam in it, headers & an exhaust and your in the 425hp range running between a 12.5 & a 12.7. The Ecoboost is nice but how are you going to mod it? An air intake & some kind of exhaust system? Not to mention the Ecoboost is way over priced.
Bone stock SHOs have also run 13.6 at 105. The mods are coming from Hennessey and others and I think you will see them running mid to low 12s - may be more expensive to mod but the results will be there. There is a lot of hidden HP/TQ in the SHO motor. The G8 is a quick car and easy to mod.
I have never seen it run better than a 13.9. Is it possible that it could get to a 13.7 or 13.6? MAYBE. This is my problem with this car...It has this half-ass awd system where the vast majority of the power comes from the front wheels which just ruins the muscle car experience. It would be unbelievably expensive to mod a 3.5L twin turbo engine for the simple fact that Ford is the only one that makes it. It's a nice car, just don't buy it thinking that you're going to win many races.
Really great car. Great performance, looks and build quality

edw125238 1 year ago
@edw125238A base SHO is $38,595 (w/o taxes) WIth this you may get a older car but you can only take one other person with you its better to show 3 people at once then one and with a 3.6 eco boost engine it will not waste gas like the viper's v10. you also can live with the SHO as a daily driver unlike the viper.

A viper for $40,000? I could get 4 decent hayabusas for that which would all be faster than the viper. And a motorcycle has about the same practicality compared to a viper as the viper does to the taurus.

If you buy ford buy a diesel and at that you will need a transmisson every 100,000 miles. For a TT V6 i would expect better. But at that the cobra does run much better times unless you put slicks on it. So i am not a believer in fords. like the lightning made for small penis guys who need somethign else to brag about.

can you tell me what RWD car that has 390 Stock HP doesn't see Traction problems coming off a line? Apparently Americans as well as foreigners think that Ford has stepped up their game, I mean they Just reported a $1 billion profit in this quarter, and mind you they did not recieve any bail out money. This is a Luxury car, that goes fast for it's weight (4200 lbs). Imagine this engine in a V6 Mustang. Funny thing is, Ford produces high quality for way cheaper than imports and we still complain.

72MachOne99GT 2 years ago
What is even more impressive is that it will run 12.75 at 108 with just a tune. Turbo motors respond very well to tuning.
Nethark 2 years ago
Lol, i had a 93 wagon. A sleeper made out of that would be funny and awesome.
BeretCyclist 2 years ago
I took my SHO back to NE Dragway last night (Wed) and ran 13.63 at 102. The car in this video is mine. Still bone stock.
Nethark 2 years ago
That's very VERY impressive. I'll bet it was on a 'fair to average' 60' time as well. The car's aren't all-whee drive are they? And I'm sure the stock stall is not too high either on a car like that. I'd imagine JUST a stall, tune, and DR's and they're running mid 12's...VERY stout...maybe not for a 40K dollar car, but for a large 4 door Ford Taurus, I'd say it'd do its fair share of embarrassing sports cars.
72MachOne99GT 2 years ago
The SHO is AWD - my best 60' time was 2.048. Car weighs 4500 lbs with driver. I just bring the revs up a bit as the lights come down and leave it in drive. There is a SHO running 12.75 at 108 with just a tune and after market wheels/tires that are probably lighter than stock. There are no performance parts for these cars yet - tuners are working on their tunes which should be on the market fairly soon. Hennessey will be bringing out some tunes/parts which I expect will be quite stout.
Nethark 2 years ago
Yes, I went to TIRE RACK & compared tires. Stock SHO tires are good, but, there are MUCH better tires out there, & yes, some performance firms have a few tweaking goodies already for the SHO - mid 12's are very doable.
charles43110 2 years ago
there are no performance parts for the car because its more like a superfamily car. the parts on it are performance parts. its impressive for what it is....one of the more shocking things i brought into my stall @ the shop.
tenaciousbro 2 years ago
Parts will be coming from Hennessey and others which, I believe, will make this an 11 sec. car. One is already running 12.75 with just a tune and aftermarket wheels/tires that reduce unsprung weight. My bone stock SHO has turned 13.63.
Nethark 2 years ago
Hennessey is planning (or maybe already came out with) a performance upgrade for it. I hope they took care of the toy brakes that are on this thing...
blueskysiii 2 years ago
There will be brake upgrades available as well put please note that in stock form, per Motor Trend test numbers, the SHO stopped from 60 mph in 112 ft. compared with 120 ft. for the G37x and 125 ft. for the Audi A6. While the stock SHO brakes may not be perfect, it seems that they are quite competitive with other 4 door performance sedans.
Nethark 2 years ago
Thats funny cuz they show the ford sho on edmunds 60-0 was 124 and the g37 was 60-0 was 112 and they show that sho running 14.2@99.1 and the g37 was 13.8@101.4 drop a twin turbo kit on that g37 and you would have 500hp
4BangerNA10Sec 2 years ago
My bone stock SHO turns 13.63 at 102. Motor Trend and Car & Driver got basically the same performance numbers from the SHO for acceleration, braking, etc. - take a look at their websites. Both magazines also tested the G37X which did not quite match the SHO's performance numbers. There are a few SHOs with just an early tune turning, low 13 sec., high 12 sec. ets - best being 12.75 @ 108.
Nethark 2 years ago
Lets wait and see what Hennessey come out with!

Nethark 2 years ago
like the person on the Jalopnik website...go there and serach on SHOCRASH. a perfect example of how one ar company can somehow manage to combine both ridiculous vehicle weight, with enormously high plastic content on the outer shell.
This wreck was caused when a car stopped short, the Tuarus couldn't stop in time, and then the car behind the SHO "TAPPED" it at 5 mph...they TOTALLED the car...If you gotta buy the SHO, buy GAP insurance!
blueskysiii 2 years ago
@blueskysiii *applauds* Wow, way to exaggerate the story. There was no released data on how fast any of the vehicles were going. In the case that is apparent, the Taurus stopped because a car in front stopped. It would be following due to the crash images, that someone rear ended the Taurus between 20 and 30 mph, pushing it forward, hitting the other car. And technically, the Taurus wasn't totalled since it was an "M" plate, and it was returned to Ford.
TheZachalope 2 years ago
@TheZachalope 20-30 mph my butt! The back seat would be in the front seat if it had been that fast...American cars these days crumple, to save lives (and sheet metal).
And really....who cares what kind of a license plate it has on it? it was still a total lose, as the car will not be sold with a non-salvage title...derr
blueskysiii 2 years ago
@Blueskysii If you had done any research, which I suppose you haven't like normal, you would know that crash testing for the Taurus meets NHTSA standards at 5mph, therefore, that type of damage would not occur at 5mph.
Also, if a car has an "M" plate on it, the car won't be sold anyways. It will end up scrapped after the testing phase is completed.
TheZachalope 2 years ago
Are you attempting to imply that "NHTSA 5 mph standards" somehow means the amount of damage to the car would not be as bad as the photos at jalopnik? The TS stands for Transportation Safety, and has nothing to do with how expensive the repair is at 5mph...Maybe u r the one that needs more research. This car is an overpriced Edsel-in-waiting, and the sales numbers are already proving it. Buy this at your own financial peril...BTW, those puny 9 inch brake discs explain why it didnt stop in time
blueskysiii 2 years ago
No, I'm implying that there is no way in hell that the amount of damaged shown in those photos would be caused by 5mph of travel. Plus, it's the IIHS that determines repair value after crash impact, not the NHTSA.
TheZachalope 2 years ago

MAybe you missed my point. My point was that if you plan to do any aggressive sunday driving (other than drag racing like this guy) then you WOULD be applying the brakes hard entering the twists and turns. Many of the reviews outlined this failure, and I was merely repeating it. That''s all...oh, except this car is too expensive, compared to nearly all of its Asian counterparts...
blueskysiii 2 years ago
I agree that the SHO brakes would need an upgrade to improve performance in the road racing environment. For normal driving, though, I still prefer the car with the shortest stopping distance. Those who do not plan to road race will be fine and those who do will probably upgrade the brakes.
Nethark 2 years ago
which all kind of winds back around to my original point...Who is going to pay over $40K for a car that needs upgrading right out of the chute? Asian car companies (and Europeans too...heck even FORD of Europe) seem to be able to put together a total package....Ford US can't even seem to get their friggin sheet metal to match the wheel sizes they offer...it's just sad, really...IT's just SAD!

They have the Impala SS. Actually, I'd suspect the Impala to be a competent competitor in performance, even though its some 6K less. however, the Taurus is a monumentally better vehicle than the quick but crude Chevrolet. The Taurus is better made, more luxurious, slightly better performance and is well worth the extra money.
porsche911sbs 2 years ago
I believe that the Impala SS has only 303 HP and a 4 speed auto with no AWD option. Although lighter than a new SHO, I do not think it will compete from a performance perspective.
Nethark 2 years ago
How about the Pontiac GXP or G8 GT? Both which would put the hurt on the Ford SHO...
They are GM cars. The Impala isn't comparable.
spitinsk8er 2 years ago
porsche911sbs mentioned the Impala SS as a potential competitor for the SHO. The GXP is a very fast car and the G8GT is quick as well and easy to modify. Tests in C&D and Motor Trend indicated that, off the showroom floor, the performance numbers for the SHO and G8GT are very close.

They are using them as cop cars in Hurst, Texas. They can hide too easily now...

Ford's marketing people should pay the guy to remove this post...This does nothing to help Ford convince people that this is a SHO...

Pontiac G8GT as tested by Motor Trend ran 13.8 at 102.8 - about the same as the SHO they tested which ran 13.7 at 103. The SHO will run with the G8.

Just think, then, how the G8 GT owner might feel if beaten by a SHO. It's gonna happen.
