Clooney's version is very nice but try the Jo Stafford version. She gives the song a more World War Two American style, which I think goes with the song very well.
This song came out several years before i was born but i remember it well... My father came home from sea twice a year. After dinner, the table was cleared, dishes were washed and us children were "put to bed", my parents used to dance to this song and many others, under soft light, while they thought, no one was watching.
I agree with Caretaker24523. The music expressed the most positve side of human nature, even during such a tragic period as WWII period was. Couldn't have said better.
Gorgeous, sad, melancholy song that makes me cry every time I hear it. Whether you think of your loved one(s), whether you think of all those soldiers in WWII and beyond, whether you just appreciate it for the melodiousness of its melody it is just simply beautiful and one of my favorites!
Does anyone have Rosemary's version of "Blue Moon"? I heard it a couple of days ago on the "Singers and Swing" channel. If no one has it, does anyone know which CD "Blue Moon" may be on?
How this song must have pained the heart and poured the tears when the millions of wives, girlfriends, parents and families sent their men off to WWII.
@martinbeckthefirst Not exactly right. I'll Be Seeing You was written by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Irving Kahal. Published in 1938, the song was inserted into the Broadway musical Right This Way, which closed after fifteen performances.
The musical theme has emotional power, and was much loved during World War II. It became an anthem for those serving overseas (both British and American soldiers) .
to labyrinth11, omg.. my mom (with beginning altzheimer's) and i heard this song today, and she sang every word to it, and all i could think of her ,impending passing and if i could use this song for her memorial. i like jimmy durante's version best. so many folks did it..
@TheLabyrinth11 Sorry, I don't remember where I got it. I would be happy to send it to you though if you give me an email address. If you're just looking for the audio you can find a lot of songs on mp3skull[DOT]com or napster[DOT]com
OK, I have been wrong all these years - I judged her on her annoying character in "White Christmas" - she really was very good and this is a truly lovely version of a great song.
As horrific and terrible as WWII was.... we got some wonderful music from it. Lyrics that said all the things that a guy could never say to his gal, lyrics that let the guy know his gal was waiting at home for his return, lyrics that gave voice to the anguish that occured when the gal learned the guy would never come home again. Some may call it the "age of innocence" but I think it was the age of love and romance the likes of which will never be seen or heard again.
@Caretaker24523 Yep, totally agree, Caretaker24523. I think we have become so cynical and to a large extent lost the art of romance. This is a wonderful version of a 'great standard'. I wonder how many girlfriends and wives listened to this song and were filled with sorrow for a loved one who would not return?
Rosemary Clooney sings this with heart. Billie Holiday sang this with soul, Jimmy Durante sang this with charisma... now listen to Bernadette Peters cover on the left side of the screen and you'd think she was from this people's era... she just as amazing as Rosemary Clooney, Billie Holiday, and Jimmy Durante...
Que buen gusto tuvo el creador de esta melodia, desde luego que acerto, ya que se canta en todos los lugares y estilos distintos.Me encanta esta canción
No dislikes. :) Hope I don't encourage a troll to jinx it.

I personally prefer her earlier work (traditional vocal pop; songs like this one), over her vocal jazz work...anyone agree?

This song is great no matter who sings it, but Rosie Clooney's rendition is
definitely among the best.
