  • I'm the only one who believes Patrick Troughton looks similar to Moe Howard?

  • Me and my friends are such Doctor Who Nerds that we dress up as the Doctors. In our group we have 10, 11, and 4. I dress as the second, and since I'm a girl, the guys were kind of confused as to why I chose him. My answer: It's the second Doctor. That's why.

  • These were the real Doctor Who's. They dont make them like they used to :(

  • DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM DUM OOEEEOOO

  • bring back the ice warriors!

  • *presses button on remote and a trapdoor opens on the floor*

  • DELIA IS A WOMAN!!!!!

  • @worldsbiggestbastard congratulations for stating the obvious

  • CUrse BBC For Fiing Him, He Was The Best Composer EVER!!!!!

  • its sad that the BBC only hold only about 6 or 8 full troughton stories. the rest are all lost or incomplete.

  • Minuto 0:12 madre mía que carita nos lleva el doctor!.

Este nos llega por lo menos desde el viernes ;-D

  • Questa seri del 1967 e nata con me.. L'annata migliore...

  • Patrick Troughton is my favourite Doctor.

  • @1933Oliver

Mine too. Troughton was a great character actor. And it should be remembered that his success in filling William Hartnell's shoes ensured the continuance of the series.

  • I'm confused One minute the time vortex has Tom Bakers face in it, then it has the tardis now it has lightening bolts jumping out at random????

    :o

  • love it at 0:00

  • Patrick's Doctor is definately up there with Matt Smith and David Tennant's Doctors! To me he is one of the fun Doctors , who makes the scary moments that more dramatic , such as Medusa in The Mind Robber , or the Cybermen in The Invasion! his episodes are utterly thrilling , and Im glad I can connect with Matt Smith when he says the same thing- Patrick Troughton is one of the best Doctors of the lot!

  • psychadelic man! now i'm sure this is what the 60's were all about! it looks a black and white lava lamp! Imagine if they had colour tv back then! I know they probably did but thats not the impression this gives!

  • @Catphycisist /watch?v=nIS3jhIncj0&feature=related

  • @MrGeorgethealien Yeah, of course that one's created using the same techniue as this and is in colour, but obviously by this point the 60's had ended

  • Did Matt Smith look a bit like him?

  • I hit the dislike button by accident, sorry about that.

  • Take me back to childhood sitting at my Grans on a Saturday afternoon

  • @DoctorWhoGuy63 It's the year it was first used.

  • I love how the lack of special and computer effects during the 60s really fed the production team's imagination and forced them to come up with something that they could do with their low budget.

  • @DoctorWhoGuy63 This sequence was used those years too.

  • These titles are even better if you mix crack with magic mushrooms!

  • Why is it that when i look at the comments for the majority of youtube videos do I find people arguing over them? whats the point? Just watch the video and comment if you want too.

Don't get into a slanging match over who is right or who is more intelligent. SHEEEESH!!!

  • Patrick Troughton, showing Matt Smith Bow ties have ALWAYS been cool since 1966.

  • PATRICK TROUGHTON ERA = EPIC

  • @damageINC25 Naturally, his era introduced the face of The Doctor zooming in towards the viewer. :D Also this version seems longer than the one I'm used too, the section of the music from 0:07 - 0:13 is absent, from 0:07 they cut straight to the face zooming in. Sounds much better like this though, more in tune to Hartnell's one. :D

  • Sofa time again!

  • i think patrick's era was rather a dark one with the stories

  • The Patrick Troughton years began in 1966.

  • @JHollowayNetwork Yes, but this title sequence was first used in 1967. They kept the William Hartnell titles for Troughton's first series.

  • Patrick Troughton still remains my favorite 'Doctor', and I've all but finished the Tom Baker years. Go figure that I like one with fewest available serials (BBC be damned!).

  • is this same as jon pertwee and tom baker theme

  • Probably the most definitive doctor. Troughton was my favourite. I loved the 'Faceless Ones' series in April - May 67 when it first came out - I was 8!!

  • can i use this

  • This version with the electronic sparklie spangles is the best!

  • Wow, that guy's face is a joke.

  • @NoGuff You bastard

  • i like the catchy space music

  • StuartTheGamerNerd the movie was utter bullshit crap it was made for amercia on an american channel the story was written by american i wathced a thing and the crew on the old series thought it was awful. And notgivingatoss73 is right if americans got hold of it it would be awful if it turned out like that crap movie which had a crap doctor

  • @BigFanofBarnif85 I am an American. I think we should just let the Brits do The Doctor. They have done it well forever and a day, so why change perfection? The Movie wasn't that bad for the time and place it was made. If it was made these days, it would probably turn out alot like the current series.

  • @wanderer711 Yeah it would be good but the actor who played the doctor was rubbish thoguh

  • can i use this vid and if u do let me how do i do it

  • My most favourite Doctor Who theme, the news series cant touch the classic.

  • What the heck is going on with the comments on this video?

  • well it looks sped up to me!

  • This version of the theme and the original version used on the very first story are the

best versions of the theme.I don't like the present version at all.I have heard rumours that it is going to be changed for the new 2010 series.

  • my top 5 troughton eps:

    1) The Invasion

    2) The War Games

    3) The Tomb of the Cybermen

    4) The Mind Robber

    5) The Web of Fear

(i've seen the clipped non-existing parts of certain above episodes)

  • I wish the "dondondon....dondondon" in the beginning of this one was still in the newer versions of theme...it sounded cool to me!

  • The don don don don thing is in the theme for seasons 1-3 of the new series...

  • @therealKINDLE I somewhat agree. The original theme was definately more scary, dark and more menacing than the new one

  • yeah the only trouble is that pat's face seems to wobble around a bit when zooming in.

  • @whoaholic But thats the beauty of it! The imperfections of Dr Who is what made it so Special! It's SO Creative! It's why Old Dr Who is best! It's So tasty! homemade! synthesizers now are rubbish sound compared to the old ones. Because of their little defects that sound Organic! you cant reproduce or manufacture that. It's like the New Series, No creativety. Everything is so Digital, Square & Boring. But every dr who title in the 60's had little differences :)

Now THAT's Magic! Dr Who was GREAT

  • now that's what I call well worded!

  • LOL! Maybe, but I doubt it! I've simply watched the Title sequences alot. I'm a humble follower of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Daphni Oram, John Baker, Dick Mills, & then you get to the celestial Delia Derbyshire. I admire her work. She understood music so well, & people are STILL NOT following her examples! Music is about the gaps or silences & how they are used to create multiple Dynamics. But instead we have the Loudness War. Pathetic don't you think? The DW theme is a large part of my life

  • blimey- another well worded masterpiece!

  • Hence why the Chemical Brothers only use old synthesizers.

  • And Portishead & Squarepusher. The Chemical Brothers arn't half as good as some artists tho man. They are like prodigy.. Over rated. And they keep using their old material at Live Gigs. I saw them 2 Years ago at London, Camden House. They were quite pants really. No way as good as Tom Jenkinson that I saw only recently!

If you want to hear some totally nasty sounds, songs & Beats, I do sets. Mixs, or Audio montages, & I've done one fairly recently that has some awsome sounds in it. PM me 4it.

  • Doctor who, a flagship series of the BBC! pity they didn't realise that before they went about deleting nearly all of the old episodes that are lost forever because of their short sightedness! especially this error!

  • @katakisLives Not to mention cutting the budget, firing a wonderful doctor, then axing the show.

  • @zazozung Yeah! that's the BBC! Dr who was allowed to wither on the vine in the eighties! no wonder it never made any appearance in the nineties (except THAT movie) they also threw away hundreds of priceless iconic Top of the pops performances from the sixties

  • Delia Derbyshire wasn't happy to tart up up the original with this remake and rearrangement of the theme with the echoey rising notes and extra whooshes and feedback;it was beautiful and good as it was.

  • Well, for the 60s this was pretty high tech. Just look at rock videos from the late 60s.

  • Pat Troughton was the Doctor when I was a kid. I recall being so astonished the first time "The War Games" was televised. It was epic stuff. Loved the way the 2nd Doctor could go from buffoon to steely brilliance in a flash - a formidable actor. Great opening titles!

  • Guys stop analysing and just enjoy. doesn't matter which Doctor you like, just enjoy the facr that we have "The Doctor". could you imagine how crap it'd be if the Americans got hold of it?

  • It's too horrible to imagine :(

  • >_> Calm down.

  • @kylephantom4 If you looked at yourselves for once, you'd understand why we mock you

  • kk i looked at myself, i aint chubby, im just a normal kid, you really shouldnt be mocking us, how woudl you feel if we mocked you

  • @kylephantom4 Well firstly, the comment you were originally replying to didn't say anything about Americans being chubby and secondly, you did mock us, in your last comment. I don't have a 'goofy' accent or buck teeth, so technically, that just makes you a hypocrite.

  • @kylephantom4 Way to miss the point. :D

  • @HollyoaksGirlx69x Well said XD ;)

  • @HollyoaksGirlx69x You really shouldn't be going around mocking people anyways though....

p.s. I'm not criticizing you or the Brits, in fact, I'm jealous of you because you get Dr.Who, which is better than both Star Trek and Star Wars Combined

  • @notgivingatoss73 Yes the US would totally fuck it up

  • @notgivingatoss73 Oh the Americans can do some good to you know Im pretty sure they can cast an American to play the Doctor one day.

  • @notgivingatoss73 excuse me Brit???, oh and if we ever did get a hold of it and it turned out anything like the Doctor Who Movie, of course I wouldn't mind...and it wouldn't hurt for them to shoot another episode in America don't you think??...are you people really that stereotypical?

  • @notgivingatoss73 im actually from america but i agree we would ruin this so lets hope we dont ever get our hands on it DOCTOR WHO FOREVER!!!

  • @notgivingatoss73 ya I cannot imagine john c riley as the doctor, he has the hair but that is it.

  • @notgivingatoss73 I'm American, and I agree. I like my country, and there's several good things about it, but American television is NOT one of them.

  • @notgivingatoss73 We did get ahold of it once... though it was ok, it just wasn't.. well, The Doctor.

  • @notgivingatoss73 Oh, that old tiresome sneering attitude, hasn't that gone out of fashion yet ? BUT I can't disagree: the Doctor is British, he shouldn't be American. He's a cultural mythological hero, you couldn't take the British out of him any more than you could take the American out of Batman.

  • @notgivingatoss73 Hey I'm American and you know we aren't all that bad. Yes I agree with you that America tends to screw a lot of things up, but not everything we've done is crap.

  • @Msliberty3000 We make movies, Brits make TV. That's the way it is.

  • @yesimstuntdude Oh I wasn't trying to say anything against the Brits. As far as making good television they have us beat hands down.

  • @notgivingatoss73 I'm an American, and American Television is crap. Star Trek was pretty much the only good American TV show, ever.

  • @yesimstuntdude

Because Firefly, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Battlestar Galactica, The Wire, Arrested Development, The Sopranos, Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Mad Men, Futurama, and Dexter don't count?

  • @Stopmotionist *AHEM* That I have seen.

  • @yesimstuntdude

...I have no words. Do you realize how mind-bogglingly arrogant it is to make that kind of judgement when you clearly aren't qualified for it? How in the name of Joss Whedon did you even begin to arrive at the conclusion that Star Trek is the only good American show EVER MADE?! You didn't even CONSIDER the possibility of there being other good - or even DECENT - shows out there. And I'm sure that you've at least HEARD of some of the shows that I mentioned!

  • @Stopmotionist Tsk, Tsk. It was just a post-and-forget sort of comment, and on youtube none-the-less. Sheesh, you'd think I had condemned the population to death or something.

  • @yesimstuntdude

Nah. You only tarred and feathered an entire industry.

  • @Stopmotionist No, I know, I voiced my opinion on the internet, it's a sin that I'm going to hell for, right? Oh, wait... I'm an Atheist. I'm going to hell for that too, right? Or, if not that... What else... I'm a computer nerd? That seems insignificant enough to go to hell for.

  • @Stopmotionist Oh, just, you know... I figured if I can be hated for expressing my personal opinion on the internet, I can be hated on for every other aspect of my life. I'm just using your logic, so don't be such an asshole.

Oh, wait... There is one major factor I forgot: Most people on the internet don't know the difference between expressing an opinion and stating a fact. Apparently, you're one of those people.

  • @yesimstuntdude

    >I'm just using your logic, so don't be such an asshole.

That doesn't begin to make sense.

    >Most people on the internet don't know the difference between expressing an opinion and stating a fact. Apparently, you're one of those people.

"Star Trek is the only good American show that I've seen" is an opinion. "Star Trek is the only good American show ever" is an absolute claim. Now, it's obvious that we had a misunderstanding here, but don't pretend that it's my fault.

  • @Stopmotionist Eh?

    1. Just because you can't grasp it does not necessarily mean that it does not make sense.

    2. Oh, I'm sorry I didn't word it exactly like you wanted me to. But me not speaking in your style doesn't make you right, you might think a person would be able to figure that out.

  • @yesimstuntdude

Forget it. If your excuse for imprecise, misleading, and - in the case of the "using your logic" line, incoherent - communication is that I can't "grasp" it and that I need everything stated in my presence to conform to a preconceived model, it's literally pointless to talk to you. The incessant straw men are just icing on the cake.

  • @Stopmotionist Oh, how typical. I don't look smart enough, so... oops, time to get out the thesaurus!

You don't need to attempt to speak in riddles just because you're in denial, you know.

  • @yesimstuntdude: You earned two solid minutes of ROFLAMO from me with this. :D

  • @notgivingatoss73: I'm American, and I couldn't agree more.

  • @notgivingatoss73 hear, hear!

  • @notgivingatoss73 When I read the comment I was like yea ........wait I'm American!

  • @notgivingatoss73 We did for that 1996 Fox movie special. I liked the premise of the Tardis and that of the Doctor #8 (very Jules Verne like) but the story itself was not as good as the British did/do.

  • @GhostOfACPast i agree with you the movie was crap

  • @GhostOfACPast The TV Movie was wonderful for what it was. Know what we could have got? A TARDIS Console with lips. Which rapped. Not joking. Or a story about The Doctor's family, where he goes on a quest for his family. Yes, Star Wars. The Movie actually began with The Doctor who was there when The Classic Series ended. You couldn't have a better homage than that.

  • @notgivingatoss73

    Your bigotry is showing.

  • @notgivingatoss73 Doctor Who WILL ALWAYS remain British/UK. An American Doctor would be heinous and unforgivable. I'm a Yank and a major Who fan since '78. I met Jon Pertwee in 1984 and will never forget it. What a marvelous show, remarkable cast, and ultimately, uniquely UK.

  • @notgivingatoss73 very true it would turn into crap if we (im american) americans got ahold of this

  • @notgivingatoss73 Exhibit A. The TV Movie. Fortunately we didn't get any more after that.

  • I've just noticed that every story from the Troughton era has the word 'the' in the title

  • Not "Fury fom the Deep" . But it's completely missing.

  • Fury from THE Deep I'd say that counts as the word the.

  • 1 of if not the best doctors ever he had it all. its a disgrace most of his stories are lost would loved to see full story with him against the daleks. but his last story the war games is my fav story ever. if youve not seen it watch it if your a fan of the classic series its awesome.

  • How did they make this without computers or the technolagy they used to make peter davidson, colin baker and tom bakers 1980's title sequence.

  • Quite simple really, take a camera hook it up to a tv/monitor, point the camera at the monitor and you can get all sorts of interesting visual effects.

  • Ooo, that sounds interesting!!!! I might just try doing that later on.

  • @animationdude56

They used slit-scan photography (basically moving the camera while exposing the film through a slit) of a flat image. The light show at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey did the same thing a few years earlier.

  • @Stopmotionist

Disregard that; I was thinking of the '70s intro. I thought that I was in the comments section for that one; it's hard to tell with only a few thumbnails at the top and loading the page auto-scrolled to somewhere in the middle.

  • My favorite Doctor and my favorite rendition of the theme tune.

The Davison version of the theme is my second favorite.

  • I agree to that comment exactly.

  • Troughton remains utterly brilliant as the Doctor, it is such a shame most of his stories only exist as audios to this day.

The theme sequence is fantastic too - great sound design updates from the previous version, and the 60s theme takes a whole 12 seconds in the beginning to really build that distinctive underlying beat, which I love.

  • Agreed. This is the best version of the theme. Ever. Not the cut down 70's version.

  • @meiray Soooo much better than the Hartnell titles and they obviously liked the song since they kept it for the next 13 years. And ya he's the best.

  • I AGREE! The new series has got worse and worse overthe past few years. long live Patrick Troughton!! :)

  • Fantastic clip...great memories. I was 8 yrs old back then and loved it to bits. Haven't watched any Dr Who series for a few decades now, so I can't make comparisons and don't see the point of doing so anyway as it must be so completely different now. Thanks for bringing back that scarey feeling, timelord726! :-)

  • Fuck you. The new series kicks ass and is just as good as the classic series.

  • He has a point: I mean have you SEEN midnight!?!? The worst story ever. The new series dosent make doctor who as it started 47 years ago.

  • I agree. It doesn't have that sort of quality that makes it a gripping story ( exept the last 2 episodes of every new series ).

  • I agree,

The episode 'Love and Monsters' is a good example of a crap episode.

  • Whenever I see Mr troughton's face in the titles I hear this "Ha Ha look at me now you bastards!"

  • best dr who theme, good stuff

  • The theme just gets better! RIP Patrick.

  • A relic of a lost era of Doctor Who. If you think about it, the actual number of surviving Troughton serials (and I'm talking about ones that survive completely) is SO small!

  • Yeah. Out of 21 stories, only six survive (Tomb of the Cybermen, The Dominators, The Mind Robber, The Krotons, The Seeds of Death and The War Games). The number goes up to seven if one counts the restored version of "The Invasion."

  • It was with the Second Doctor that Doctor Who truely became what we know it to be today

  • i agree with you the 2nd doctors story archs and theme where more actioned themed like the 9th&10th doctors storys today

  • I do not understand

  • he's talking about the three stooges, an American comedy troupe.

  • OK thanks

  • I should re-rent "Invasion" from his era and post the "flash" version of his opening... Unless someone beats me to it.. which I don't mind since it's one less thing for me to do. :-p

  • It's a shame that so many episodes of Patrick's era were destroyed. I mean I know there were a good amount of Hartnell lost, but it seems like there's more lost of Patrick. There's like 8 Hartnells lost and 12 patricks, and when I say "lost" I mean that there is less than half of the serial available (i've seen it where only 1 episode is available while all the others are lost.)

I really hope they release "The War Games" on DVD soon.

  • i think on ebay they have the war games on dvd but im not compleately sure if not on dvd the definitally have his regeneration episode on vhs which is also good to have

  • is it possible to get any new ones without names like "David Tennant"

    Or "Billie Piper" Ect..

  • I've made such a video by instating clean bits of the red Vortex in place of the names, but it's all a bit rough; I'm gonna hopefully be producing an update with better quality.

  • yea, type in doctor who opening with no captions and this guy will have it.Download the vid my copying the url and going onto mediaconverter . org

  • Why's there only ever half a "middle eight"?

  • Those "spangles" may be small additions, but what an improvement they make! I mean, they add a whole new level of fear into the title sequence!

  • Which DVD is this one on?

  • It's from the Tomb of the Cybermen DVD, isn't it?

  • yep! The full version is a hidden special feature. Im not sure what it is on the US version, but the UK version, you go onto the main menu then either hit "left" or "up" to light up the Doctor who logo at the top of the screen.

  • all your clear doctor who title sequences make me happy!! this is magnificant, could i ask where you got all these?

  • He got them off the DVD's

  • nice

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
