...I have no words. Do you realize how mind-bogglingly arrogant it is to make that kind of judgement when you clearly aren't qualified for it? How in the name of Joss Whedon did you even begin to arrive at the conclusion that Star Trek is the only good American show EVER MADE?! You didn't even CONSIDER the possibility of there being other good - or even DECENT - shows out there. And I'm sure that you've at least HEARD of some of the shows that I mentioned!
@Stopmotionist Tsk, Tsk. It was just a post-and-forget sort of comment, and on youtube none-the-less. Sheesh, you'd think I had condemned the population to death or something.
@Stopmotionist No, I know, I voiced my opinion on the internet, it's a sin that I'm going to hell for, right? Oh, wait... I'm an Atheist. I'm going to hell for that too, right? Or, if not that... What else... I'm a computer nerd? That seems insignificant enough to go to hell for.
>No, I know, I voiced my opinion on the internet, it's a sin that I'm going to hell for, right?
You voiced a completely uninformed and defamatory opinion as an absolute claim. And what do atheism and an interest in computers have to do with any of this?
@Stopmotionist Oh, just, you know... I figured if I can be hated for expressing my personal opinion on the internet, I can be hated on for every other aspect of my life. I'm just using your logic, so don't be such an asshole.
Oh, wait... There is one major factor I forgot: Most people on the internet don't know the difference between expressing an opinion and stating a fact. Apparently, you're one of those people.
>I'm just using your logic, so don't be such an asshole.
That doesn't begin to make sense.
>Most people on the internet don't know the difference between expressing an opinion and stating a fact. Apparently, you're one of those people.
"Star Trek is the only good American show that I've seen" is an opinion. "Star Trek is the only good American show ever" is an absolute claim. Now, it's obvious that we had a misunderstanding here, but don't pretend that it's my fault.
1. Just because you can't grasp it does not necessarily mean that it does not make sense.
2. Oh, I'm sorry I didn't word it exactly like you wanted me to. But me not speaking in your style doesn't make you right, you might think a person would be able to figure that out.
Forget it. If your excuse for imprecise, misleading, and - in the case of the "using your logic" line, incoherent - communication is that I can't "grasp" it and that I need everything stated in my presence to conform to a preconceived model, it's literally pointless to talk to you. The incessant straw men are just icing on the cake.
@notgivingatoss73 We did for that 1996 Fox movie special. I liked the premise of the Tardis and that of the Doctor #8 (very Jules Verne like) but the story itself was not as good as the British did/do.
@GhostOfACPast The TV Movie was wonderful for what it was. Know what we could have got? A TARDIS Console with lips. Which rapped. Not joking. Or a story about The Doctor's family, where he goes on a quest for his family. Yes, Star Wars. The Movie actually began with The Doctor who was there when The Classic Series ended. You couldn't have a better homage than that.
@notgivingatoss73 Doctor Who WILL ALWAYS remain British/UK. An American Doctor would be heinous and unforgivable. I'm a Yank and a major Who fan since '78. I met Jon Pertwee in 1984 and will never forget it. What a marvelous show, remarkable cast, and ultimately, uniquely UK.
1 of if not the best doctors ever he had it all. its a disgrace most of his stories are lost would loved to see full story with him against the daleks. but his last story the war games is my fav story ever. if youve not seen it watch it if your a fan of the classic series its awesome.
Quite simple really, take a camera hook it up to a tv/monitor, point the camera at the monitor and you can get all sorts of interesting visual effects.
They used slit-scan photography (basically moving the camera while exposing the film through a slit) of a flat image. The light show at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey did the same thing a few years earlier.
Disregard that; I was thinking of the '70s intro. I thought that I was in the comments section for that one; it's hard to tell with only a few thumbnails at the top and loading the page auto-scrolled to somewhere in the middle.
Troughton remains utterly brilliant as the Doctor, it is such a shame most of his stories only exist as audios to this day.
The theme sequence is fantastic too - great sound design updates from the previous version, and the 60s theme takes a whole 12 seconds in the beginning to really build that distinctive underlying beat, which I love.
Fantastic clip...great memories. I was 8 yrs old back then and loved it to bits. Haven't watched any Dr Who series for a few decades now, so I can't make comparisons and don't see the point of doing so anyway as it must be so completely different now. Thanks for bringing back that scarey feeling, timelord726! :-)

My second favourite doctor. The new series is shit to the max. Wtf they turned it into to a gay show. I hate the new series i hope it dies. the new gay series can't touch the classic.
A relic of a lost era of Doctor Who. If you think about it, the actual number of surviving Troughton serials (and I'm talking about ones that survive completely) is SO small!
Yeah. Out of 21 stories, only six survive (Tomb of the Cybermen, The Dominators, The Mind Robber, The Krotons, The Seeds of Death and The War Games). The number goes up to seven if one counts the restored version of "The Invasion."
I should re-rent "Invasion" from his era and post the "flash" version of his opening... Unless someone beats me to it.. which I don't mind since it's one less thing for me to do. :-p
It's a shame that so many episodes of Patrick's era were destroyed. I mean I know there were a good amount of Hartnell lost, but it seems like there's more lost of Patrick. There's like 8 Hartnells lost and 12 patricks, and when I say "lost" I mean that there is less than half of the serial available (i've seen it where only 1 episode is available while all the others are lost.)
I really hope they release "The War Games" on DVD soon.
i think on ebay they have the war games on dvd but im not compleately sure if not on dvd the definitally have his regeneration episode on vhs which is also good to have
I've made such a video by instating clean bits of the red Vortex in place of the names, but it's all a bit rough; I'm gonna hopefully be producing an update with better quality.
yep! The full version is a hidden special feature. Im not sure what it is on the US version, but the UK version, you go onto the main menu then either hit "left" or "up" to light up the Doctor who logo at the top of the screen.
I'm the only one who believes Patrick Troughton looks similar to Moe Howard?

@yesimstuntdude
...I have no words.
Stopmotionist 1 year ago
@Stopmotionist Tsk, Tsk. It was just a post-and-forget sort of comment, and on youtube none-the-less. Sheesh, you'd think I had condemned the population to death or something.
yesimstuntdude 1 year ago
@yesimstuntdude
Nah. You only tarred and feathered an entire industry.

Stopmotionist 1 year ago
@Stopmotionist Oh, just, you know... I figured if I can be hated for expressing my personal opinion on the internet, I can be hated on for every other aspect of my life. I'm just using your logic, so don't be such an asshole.
Oh, wait... There is one major factor I forgot: Most people on the internet don't know the difference between expressing an opinion and stating a fact. Apparently, you're one of those people.
yesimstuntdude 1 year ago
@yesimstuntdude
Stopmotionist 1 year ago
@Stopmotionist Eh?
1. Just because you can't grasp it does not necessarily mean that it does not make sense.
2. Oh, I'm sorry I didn't word it exactly like you wanted me to. But me not speaking in your style doesn't make you right, you might think a person would be able to figure that out.
yesimstuntdude 1 year ago
@yesimstuntdude
Stopmotionist 1 year ago
@Stopmotionist Oh, how typical. I don't look smart enough, so... oops, time to get out the thesaurus!
You don't need to attempt to speak in riddles just because you're in denial, you know.

@notgivingatoss73 We did for that 1996 Fox movie special. I liked the premise of the Tardis and that of the Doctor #8 (very Jules Verne like) but the story itself was not as good as the British did/do.
GhostOfACPast 1 year ago
@GhostOfACPast i agree with you the movie was crap
BossRoss999 1 year ago

@notgivingatoss73 very true it would turn into crap if we (im american) americans got ahold of this

1 of if not the best doctors ever he had it all. its a disgrace most of his stories are lost would loved to see full story with him against the daleks. but his last story the war games is my fav story ever. if youve not seen it watch it if your a fan of the classic series its awesome.

How did they make this without computers or the technolagy they used to make peter davidson, colin baker and tom bakers 1980's title sequence.
animationdude56 2 years ago
Quite simple really, take a camera hook it up to a tv/monitor, point the camera at the monitor and you can get all sorts of interesting visual effects.
ydargc 2 years ago 2
Ooo, that sounds interesting!!!! I might just try doing that later on.
animationdude56 2 years ago
@animationdude56
They used slit-scan photography (basically moving the camera while exposing the film through a slit) of a flat image. The light show at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey did the same thing a few years earlier.
Stopmotionist 1 year ago
@Stopmotionist
Disregard that; I was thinking of the '70s intro. I thought that I was in the comments section for that one; it's hard to tell with only a few thumbnails at the top and loading the page auto-scrolled to somewhere in the middle.

My favorite Doctor and my favorite rendition of the theme tune.
The Davison version of the theme is my second favorite.
Takeshi357 2 years ago 4
I agree to that comment exactly.
WrongRoadRailways 2 years ago
Troughton remains utterly brilliant as the Doctor, it is such a shame most of his stories only exist as audios to this day.
The theme sequence is fantastic too - great sound design updates from the previous version, and the 60s theme takes a whole 12 seconds in the beginning to really build that distinctive underlying beat, which I love.
meiray 2 years ago 25
Agreed. This is the best version of the theme. Ever. Not the cut down 70's version.
trombone667 2 years ago
@meiray Soooo much better than the Hartnell titles and they obviously liked the song since they kept it for the next 13 years. And ya he's the best.

I AGREE! The new series has got worse and worse overthe past few years. long live Patrick Troughton!! :)

I hate the new series i hope it dies. the new gay series can't touch the classic.
galaticwars 3 years ago
Fuck you. The new series kicks ass and is just as good as the classic series.

He has a point: I mean have you SEEN midnight!?!? The worst story ever. The new series dosent make doctor who as it started 47 years ago.
BannedFromThisSite 2 years ago
I agree. It doesn't have that sort of quality that makes it a gripping story ( exept the last 2 episodes of every new series ).

I agree,
The episode 'Love and Monsters' is a good example of a crap episode.

A relic of a lost era of Doctor Who. If you think about it, the actual number of surviving Troughton serials (and I'm talking about ones that survive completely) is SO small!
DoctorWhoLeelaFan 3 years ago

dvandam 3 years ago
It's a shame that so many episodes of Patrick's era were destroyed. I mean I know there were a good amount of Hartnell lost, but it seems like there's more lost of Patrick. There's like 8 Hartnells lost and 12 patricks, and when I say "lost" I mean that there is less than half of the serial available (i've seen it where only 1 episode is available while all the others are lost.)
I really hope they release "The War Games" on DVD soon.
dvandam 3 years ago
i think on ebay they have the war games on dvd but im not compleately sure if not on dvd the definitally have his regeneration episode on vhs which is also good to have

is it possible to get any new ones without names like "David Tennant"
Or "Billie Piper" Ect..
timelord663 4 years ago
I've made such a video by instating clean bits of the red Vortex in place of the names, but it's all a bit rough; I'm gonna hopefully be producing an update with better quality.

yep! The full version is a hidden special feature. Im not sure what it is on the US version, but the UK version, you go onto the main menu then either hit "left" or "up" to light up the Doctor who logo at the top of the screen.
