@MizzDizzyLizzy79 I like the way you think ;-) Honestly, I don't know how to keep an open mind to ALL the possibilities-they are endless! And how are we to ever know? On the topic of location in the brain for 'spiritual experience'-we could ask ourselves, "Why do birds have beaks? Why does a bat perceive the way it does?" I don't think there is a force with attributes in mind - i'll give this bird a beak, a bat sonar, or humans spiritual experience (whatever that 'is' - such variation!)
@scoutie111 By the way, I am atheist but PROFOUNDLY agnostic. But my agnosticism is not typical (i.e., Does god exist? I don't know.) Instead, I question the very assumptions that are embedded in the question! But I am atheist because if you were to ask me the question "Does god exist"-I will tell you 'probably not'--that I do not think god "EXISTS"--i.e., no THING. Now-I will give a big YES to this experience in wonder, amazement, and awe (which I think is SIMILAR to your thank you ;-)
@MizzDizzyLizzy79 Well, let's suppose we say that God created everything. We run into a problem when we ask, Then who created God? WHO created the creator? Our minds go spinning unless we plop down a 'definitional truth' like - "God is the first cause." Imagining a first cause is comfortable; it makes the big picture like OUR little picture, e.g., "That man created a house." Question: Try imagining outside of space time. Is outside of space time something? or nothing?
@MizzDizzyLizzy79 Lizzy - I think the idea of an object/designer (a "creator object") who 'designed' the universe is anthropomorphic, overly-simplistic, and quite Newtonian (billiard-ball mechanics). It is entirely possible that there may be no "true" beginnings or endings-only the PERCEPTION of such. When we ask the question "Does god exist?" - the ANSWER may be - "Your QUESTION is skewed to your human experience in space-time." How does an object "exist" outside of space-time?
atheism. whats so great about it? i was atheist all my life. its freaking normal. why everybody gets so exscitet about atheism in the usa. its like they pretend its something new!.-.-
atheism should be normality . not a spiritual experience. spirituality is something different then just the " non believing in all gods" statement
well welcome to the dark side. lol just kiding. What you need to do is say that same story to all of you religious friends so we can stop all this hate in the world that has been caused by religion.
What you say about how Atheists think of their own life is exactly what I've been thinking of.. You do appreciate life so much more when you're alive, and seem to enjoy every second! Thank you for the nice video :D
Well, it has for me, too. There is no supernatural object to rely upon to "save" us. It is up to us--OUR responsibility--to create a state of peace in our personal world and the world around us.
Preach it, sister! =P I just don't like seeing perfectly intelligent, logical people going around expecting something beyond our physical world to save us from ourselves. We make an impact, and the only plans are the ones we create ourselves.
in a way bhuddism but im not to sure but u neva know death may not be the end but i woulnt bet on the afterlife card cus i dunno but i know bout life so ill live it to the fullest and try to help ppl along the way and not give them user manuals on how to live life
I am so glad you replied, scoutie. I also used to think that life would be meaningless and depressing without god. The whole "God" experience plays such a big role in the testimonies of religious folk ... so it's great to share our testimonies and experiences too. There IS abundant life after god ... in fact, sometimes just to confuse people, I tell them that I've been "born-again AGAIN". cheers!
"False sense of contentedness"?Makes me think of a line that Moe said on the Simpsons."Homer, rich people ain't happy. From the day their born to the day they die, they think they are but they ain't"!
Great Scoutie! So you came to a place deep within yourself that acknowledged your finite life and you realised that you and everybody else were a part of nature and you got a deep sense of peace from that. I think all of us that have encountered you as a person sense that right away within you. That sense of inner peace.

You gotta go with whatever makes you a more empathetic, accepting person. Atheism does that for me. :)

neilroy6 3 years ago
The believers seem to go thru life waiting to die so they can enjoy themselves. There is something wrong with that mindset.
kingmike40 3 years ago 7
Yup, there is really something wrong... And can someone note some religions, which say, the death is the end of your life?

Your contentment is false, it is a Satanic ploy. He wants to burn your soul. Repent and fear - that is where life can be found.
