Only had this unstoppable beast for 1.5years but the 2ft snow we have in Romania did not stop it everyone around me slipping and getting stuck and in so called 4x4but, go anywhere, this machine is built for land with no roads and for pulling Land Rovers, Merc, X5 ,Q7 and so onto the garage to be fixed , l feel safe in it if you want a good 4x4 which is not going to break down buy Landcruiser.The beauty of Toyota is that won't break down!!!(185.000miles) nothing went wrong all original parts

It's more that they chose not to equip them from the factory as such these days, since MOST normal users never go extreme off roading, and prefer fuel economy and more precise computer assisted handling on road, which is the primary use 99% of the time for most people.
@jimmyhoffa9 Yes, Land Cruisers have become a Luxury SUV than a traditional off-road transport. Still, it's sad that the one of the most notoriously reliable and capable past heritage of Land Cruisers are diminishing this forte, and gaining size and luxury.
However, since the new CEO, Akio Toyoda is a very fanatical automotive enthusiast, and has recreated a pure sports car this time. Perhaps returning the Land Cruiser is another priority as well. :) We hope so.

@mart6661 The complaint people have is with today's modern advanced AWD being installed on Toyota SUV for much improved ON-Road capability. But unlike the OLDER Toyota with manual or part time, fully engaged 4WD diffs, they tend to be less capable on extreme roads, unless re-fitted or modified with traditional components. Rovers on the other hand, even today, maintains much of the capability of the older cars, sacrificing some on-road performance to keep the off-road capability

@mart6661 Toyota is a little more stronger then the discovery when it comes to agressive and irresponsible driving off road. But Discovery is by far a much better offroader (especially on sand), that's a lot because LR developers gave a lot of attention to the Terrain Response system, and they did a great job with that! Toyota tried to copy LR's Terrain Response and did their Multi-Terrain system, but it's just an pathetic "chinese quality" copy!
@mart6661 Being reliable and being a good offroader are two very diferent things.Land Rovers, in my opinion, are one of the best offroaders you can get but the Land Cruiser is very very reliable, much ore reliable than the LR but not as good offroad.

if you want to bring a Prado to go against this LR3, you need the range topping model which comes with CRAWL Control and Multi-Terrain Control. not this normal standard one

What a fucking load of crap this video is! I own vehicle recovery business in north western Queensland and I have never ever not once towed a Prado. I have lost count the amount of Land Rovers I have towed. They are usually electrical problems that they have, and let some air out of the Prado's tires you pole smoking tossers.
Just a quick update on this video, the LR has been sold for a tenth of what the owner paid due to the oil leaks, electrical problems and finally the airbag suspension failures nearly sent him broke. On the other hand the Prado owner finally let his tyres down took a driving lesson and was last seen enjoying a Holliday in the Australian outback pulling a 2T caravan without ever opening the bonnet.
A video of diff locks vs no diff locks really. Unless that prado is the top model, it doesn't have a rear locking diff. Discovery 3 has one standard. The power of diff locking is shown at 40 second mark.

Hard to escape the visual imagery of the Land Rover literally driving rings around the Land Cruiser stuck up to its hubs in sand.....and then pulling the Land Cruiser out of the sand. seems to be a common trend with LR owners, they only post videos that make their cars look good. Try to find some videos with the LR getting stuck, do they even exist? The fanboys will tell you this doesn't happen because their cars are magic. The reality is with the type of tires most people are running on their LR's they are bound to get stuck somewhere. Air suspension and electronic diffs cannot defy physics when rubber can't hook up.
The conclusion is that the prado is a better car than that shitty discovery. The only reason the prado looses in these challenges is due to the fact that these idiots didnt do the things that they had to from before. Face it they did this video beacause they hate prados but from my past experiences I have to say one thing. Prados are the best and most reliable and comfortable 4WD's in the WORLD!! 93 people brought the wrong car!!! Ive had both Landys and Toyotas, Landys unstoppable off road they are somthing else nothing comes close! look after them and they will look after you! Toyota brought brand new within the first week back into toyota 5 times for the same fault on after I asked for a refund and told the guy if it wasnt sorted id park it though the front window did it get fixed first 3 years of ownership recalled 11 times for 'minor faults' 2 times 'major problems. LR all the way
Successful 4 wheeling is about knowledge, experience, technique, and knowing when and how to use the vehicle's strengths. My '97 Land Cruiser has no problems in terrain like this, but then again, I'm not some fucking idiot driver that doesn't know about the diff lock either.

Are you guys serious? The land rover didn't get put into 4x4 low either, all that you have to do is twist the knob on the "Terrain Response System" and it takes care of the rest. Land Rovers are all around more capable off-road. That is why they are world Renowned, they ought to be since they only make 4x4 vehicles.
The LandRover is far nicer, and far more comfortable than ANY Toyota, but.... any Toyota is far more reliable than ANY LandRover, they will start 100% of times, its suspension will last longer, will rattle less, and retain its value better, and more importantly... any experienced off roader will make both vehicles reach the exact same unreachable secluded places, don't take it from me, take it from experienced 4x4 trainers like Tom Collins or Bill Burke just to name a couple.
Please don't make excuses for the landcruiser. The LandRover is a better product off-road for all to see.... neither car has deflated tyres, both have the same chances, both are being revved high. There really is no comparison... take it from some one who has owned three series Land Rovers, 5 Range Rovers and One Discovery......... and javimotorsupra, please, the 4.5 6 in line would fair no better than the Prado and neither would the patrol.

This is rubbish; clearly set-up because anyone who has driven a 200 series is aware of it's 4WD'ing functions and it's crawl feature. That alone would have gotten the car out of any of these set-up situations...

@TheCoolHani - It's not about diff-locks. Land Rover's Terrain Control coupled with the LR articulation is what the difference is. Toyotas are cheaper than Land Rovers for a reason.

@REDR8 I disagree my friend, first I bought one J150 VX V6 engine, full leather and yes, it really has more electronical gadgets and a better traction control, but! then I tried J120 and I fell in love with that baby; Best looking, SAME engine (1GRFE V6) also full leather and the best: a brutal powertrain to climb a very steep mountain (with J150 I couldn't). So, I went back my J150 and bought J120 (the last one in 2009). Greetings.
@nigel561 looks are a personal choice I love the look of the 120 but prefer the 150 (just) same engine but 150 makes more power and is more economical, same brutal drivetrain except the 150 has larger diffs as the the 120 is prone to busting diffs enjoy the 120 their great I'll stick with my 150.

The facts are that toyota only follow the industry, they followed landrover 15 yrs later with coil suspension, then 24 yrs later with constant 4x4 , 10 yrs later for disc brakes now they pretend they invented terrain response 8 yrs after landrover and now they will be behind nissen who after 8 yrs will follow again with a lightweight V6. Their V8 cant even match the rover V8 just over half its capacity. Yeah toyota are real go getters !!!!!!!

They are pretty evenly matched cars, but i would say that the people that really use these types of vehicles off road would choose the Toyota as it cheaper & more reliable

seems to be a common trend with LR owners, they only post videos that make their cars look good. Try to find some videos with the LR getting stuck, do they even exist? The fanboys will tell you this doesn't happen because their cars are magic. The reality is with the type of tires most people are running on their LR's they are bound to get stuck somewhere. Air suspension and electronic diffs cannot defy physics when rubber can't hook up.

The conclusion is that the prado is a better car than that shitty discovery. The only reason the prado looses in these challenges is due to the fact that these idiots didnt do the things that they had to from before. Face it they did this video beacause they hate prados but from my past experiences I have to say one thing. Prados are the best and most reliable and comfortable 4WD's in the WORLD!! 93 people brought the wrong car!!! Ive had both Landys and Toyotas, Landys unstoppable off road they are somthing else nothing comes close! look after them and they will look after you! Toyota brought brand new within the first week back into toyota 5 times for the same fault on after I asked for a refund and told the guy if it wasnt sorted id park it though the front window did it get fixed first 3 years of ownership recalled 11 times for 'minor faults' 2 times 'major problems. LR all the way

Successful 4 wheeling is about knowledge, experience, technique, and knowing when and how to use the vehicle's strengths. My '97 Land Cruiser has no problems in terrain like this, but then again, I'm not some fucking idiot driver that doesn't know about the diff lock either.

Land Rovers are all around more capable off-road. That is why they are world Renowned, they ought to be since they only make 4x4 vehicles.

The LandRover is far nicer, and far more comfortable than ANY Toyota, but.... any Toyota is far more reliable than ANY LandRover, they will start 100% of times, its suspension will last longer, will rattle less, and retain its value better, and more importantly... any experienced off roader will make both vehicles reach the exact same unreachable secluded places, don't take it from me, take it from experienced 4x4 trainers like Tom Collins or Bill Burke just to name a couple.

Please don't make excuses for the landcruiser. The LandRover is a better product off-road for all to see.... neither car has deflated tyres, both have the same chances, both are being revved high. There really is no comparison... take it from some one who has owned three series Land Rovers, 5 Range Rovers and One Discovery......... and javimotorsupra, please, the 4.5 6 in line would fair no better than the Prado and neither would the patrol.

Answers to your examples:
1st: Landie turned wheels left, LC turned towards the bump.
2nd: Landie got WAAY more momentum, (it is after all faster).
3rd: Again, more momentum, he got so much speed he even cut the throttle.
LC driver isn't too good, digs himself in.... wow.
Besides all that, i like both cars, LOVE THE QUEEN MUSIC on the disco.

This is entirely setup. The Prado's traction control would keep it moving over the dune at the start. The Prado driver is either very inexperienced or this is a Land Rover advertisement. @TheCoolHani - It's not about diff-locks. Land Rover's Terrain Control coupled with the LR articulation is what the difference is. Toyotas are cheaper than Land Rovers for a reason.

@REDR8 I disagree my friend, first I bought one J150 VX V6 engine, full leather and yes, it really has more electronical gadgets and a better traction control, but! then I tried J120 and I fell in love with that baby; Best looking, SAME engine (1GRFE V6) also full leather and the best: a brutal powertrain to climb a very steep mountain (with J150 I couldn't). So, I went back my J150 and bought J120 (the last one in 2009). Greetings.

The facts are that toyota only follow the industry, they followed landrover 15 yrs later with coil suspension, then 24 yrs later with constant 4x4 , 10 yrs later for disc brakes now they pretend they invented terrain response 8 yrs after landrover and now they will be behind nissen who after 8 yrs will follow again with a lightweight V6. Their V8 cant even match the rover V8 just over half its capacity. Yeah toyota are real go getters !!!!!!!

Very much doubt you have driven both of these models otherwise you would never have said that . The Land Rover is a far more sophisticated car but also more complex than the Landcruiser. They are pretty evenly matched cars, but i would say that the people that really use these types of vehicles off road would choose the Toyota as it cheaper & more reliable

Ever attack a hill and due to inferior set up, from factory standard, you need to give it the gas, start bouncing, the front end gets air under it, you come down your bump stops push you back up get air again, come down and CRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!. By the way , I drove the Disco (slow and eassy) up the same hill 5 minutes before. And I do have TWO LANDROVERS. BECAUSE i CHOOSE TO HAVE THEM.
