Since 1969 (Bo's first year) Michigan has had an impressive amount of quality Quarterbacks.
Don Moorehead, Tom Slade, Dennis Franklin, RICK LEACH, John Wangler, Steve Smith, Jim Harbaugh, (Demitrious Brown sucked) Michael Taylor, Elvis Grbac, Todd Collins, Scott Driesbach, Brian Griese, Tom Brady, Drew Henson, John Navarre, Chad Henne, (Nick Sheridan and Steve Threet sucked and Tate Forcier was a fuck up)and now Denard Robinson and Devan Gardner who are both quality QBs and have bright futures.
Mallet could of been the next great Michigan quarterback, but it just was not meant to be. He made the right decision to leave IMO. Rich Rod nearly decimated the program during his brief but memorable (not in a good way) tenure. I do belive thoguh, had Carr stayed or his replacement been within the Michigan sphere, Mallet would of had a better career at Michigan than he did at Arkansas. At Arkansas he never quite seemed to take that next step.
@lonewarrior36j I wouldn't say he can't throw. He has accuracy issues, but he made a marked improvement passing wise from his freshman to sophmore years and I'd expect the same now coming into his Junior year especially since Hoke has put together a great staff who will not doubt actually help develope the talent unlike RichRod's group who failed at developing players.IMO I think Gardner is better suited for Hoke's system but Robinson has the inangibles you can't teach, which is why he'll start.
@GoongalaGoongala Rich Rod didn't fail at developing talent offensively, just defensively because of terrible defensive coaching from the ground up. Honestly, our biggest flaw with the defense was the linebacker play. It was horrible. Our front 3 (or 4) was fine and our DBs would have been ok if only our linebackers could stop the run or get pressure on the quarterback. Unfortunately, they were always out of position, even before the play began.
No, it's because he plays for Michigan. Michigan has talent at the WR position. And if you think that Denerd is a great passer then either you a Michigan fan or your full of shit. I'm really hoping that your a Michigan fan. And by the way 14th isn't a great rank among QBs.
@losangelescardinals Denard ranks in the top 20 in QB rating nationally. Not bad for a kid who is a sophmore starting his first season, and with the legs to run for 1600+ yards in a season.
Michigan got their asses beat by Michigan State. Where as Arkansas gave Alabama, the defending champions and one of the the best in the SEC, the best conference in college football, a good, close game. Mallett is going to be a franchise quarterback in the pros. Michigan shoulda kept him around and let him start. They woulda beat the pants off of Michigan State if they had a quarterback that can throw the ball instead of a running back taking snaps.
@guitarplayajonnie Michigan was going to let him stay. Mallet left because he thought he didn't fit into the offense, which wasn't true. There are passing spread offenses, and running spread offenses, and since we don't have a consistent quarterback who can throw Michigan is forced to settle with a running spread offense. And yeah, I agree, Michigan would have been much better with Mallet.
@guitarplayajonnie Call a spade a spade man, Arkansas LOST that game against Alabama, no one cares if it was close. Alabama is currently 9-3 and got very lucky with many games last year to get to the NC so your argument is bunk my friend.
Too many SEC homers on this video, I'm out of here.

@navid99us Please, he's a running back. And a good one at that. But he can't pass very well. He leads the nation in rushing yards. QB's who having more rushing yards than passing yards are all the same. He's a good scrambler but why don't you try throwing as well.
@losangelescardinals Uh, he is top 20 in passing effeciency, and he's only a sophmore first-year starter. The only sophmore in the nation with a better passing efficiency rating than Denard: Andrew Luck...
Not bad for a kid who you say is "a running back".
@tomdapimp Michigan has had a ton of great QBs. I think you are confused with Ohio St. They have never had a QB do well in the NFL. Hoying, Stanley Jackson, Powers,....all a joke.

@flawshman haha michigan is the winniest school in college football history and more nc's than anyother school? u should check into history buddy and also isnt michigan the only ranked fbs school to ever lose to an fcs school?

Forcier? LOL!!!! The Razorbacks would destroy Michigan. Ryan Mallett is the best QB in the nation, and may be the best pure passer in the NCAA and the NFL. Michigan is simply in a lower league than Arkansas. This season is almost over. Next year, the Hogs will contend for the SEC title, which usually means that they'll be in contention for a national championship. Michigan? They won't even beat Notre Dame next year. Get real people.
Mallet is good but lets be real guys in the nfl are nothing to mess with and i havent yet seen anyone sling the football with pin point accuracy n speed better the peyton manning... Not saying mallett isnt good by any means, its just the nfl is a different game..
you have no idea what your talking about. michigan had a horrible couple of years. but next year they will be at the top of the big ten with 18 of 22 starters back. Notre dame wont beat them. notre dame will have their first year with a new coach and mallet... best passer in the ncaa and nfl... are you kidding me?
LMFAO. Dude your so fucking funny you made me piss myself. Ryan Mallett is not the best in the NCAA.. Its Tebow or Dan LeFevour. Michigan will be among the nations best within the next year or two. This year they blew 4 out of 6 of their losses.
umm im sorry im pretty sure arkansas blows compared to teams in the big ten...ohio state iowa penn state and most certainly the michigan wolverines!! so talk shit all u want but arkansas sucks dick...michigan has a much tougher schedule
@kurtisleduc yet Arkansas went to a bowl game and michgan didnt hmm and tougher schedule AHAHAHAHA really losing to Purdue Michigan state and Illinois wow thats really tough, btw Arkansas plays in the sec yes i know, we sick and tired of hearing about the sec but its true, but hey stay delusional Michigan fans.
Purdue beat Ohio state.. Michigan State finished 6-7 with a 10 point loss to texas tech. But still the big ten had wins over Oregon, Georgia Tech, Miami and Lsu in bowl games. While Minnesota lost by only 1. But yeah, the big ten is awful.
hah dude ur stupid arkansas is n the almighty SEC the best conference in the Country the bigten is nothin compared 2 the SEC Arkansas has the tougher schedule and a better record 8-5 Michigan 5-7? really??
@usc1bato the big ten is 13-11 against the SEC in the past 4 years....thought u should know that...not to mention that michigan now has a heisman trophy candidate
All of us razorback fans r very happy to have Ryan mallet as our qb. he is doing great things for us. and the system at michigan wldnt have fit him very well
Every true Michigan fan wishes Ryan Mallet the very best. It really was best for both parties that RM and U of M part ways. Michigan COULD have hired from within and kept their old offensive system in place but it was readly apparent after the opening loss to Appalachian State and the humiliating rout by Oregon in the first 2 home games of 2007 that MIchigan REALLY needed fresh blood and a new perspective for their football program that had stagnated.
Yeah he is! I was real excited when we recruited him here at Michigan, but then our program went a different direction. I personally am not in favor of our new coaching staff but whatever. Anyways, Mallet is going to be a great NFL QB.
mallet picked michigan for a reason you moron its clear why he left (he didnt fit in a spread-option offense) thats why no michigan fans are mad he left it was best for michigan and ryan
I just hate that he left Michigan, man he had All-American potential and possibly can win the Davey O'Brien award someday!!!!! But thats what happens when you hire Rich Rod =(
He left because he didnt have the tools (speed) to hang in a Rich Rodriguez offense. Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson, and Devin Gardner are all going to shine 10x more than Mallet would because they can atleast run.
Mallet might have a good career at Arkansas but he's not suited for the spread offense.
mich fans...its time to get over the rich rod thing-- its done. hes the man in charge- so if ur a real wolverine ull get behind him and hope for the best. mallet wasnt cut out for it- so lets move on to better atheletes who MIGHT have a chance at gettin it done-- personally i jus wanna get back to the old days , and win
Rodriguez didn't have much to work with last year. He had two mediocre QBs, lots of players transferred, and he had a terrible defense. This year's team is way more experienced, and will hopefully make a bowl game.
Ryan will be a big time player for the hogs and in the NFL, he did very well as a freshmen at Michigan all in all. No doubt his arm is BIG time, he can throw it as far as anyone. Hope to see him tear up the SEC, and wish him the best..
dude.. i just hung out with Mallett after the red and white scrimmage yesterday. and i watched him play.. he is incredible. there isn't a QB in college that is bigger than he is either. he is 6'7'' 248 lbs.. u sound stupid when you try to criticize someone you don't even know. he is a red shirt sophomore for arkansas and he is amazing. he threw one interception yesterday and had like 200 and something yards passing.. take it from someone who knows him. not just watched him..
Thank god this kid moved on from Meeechigan. He was horrible, slow, made bad passing decisions, and clumsy as all hell. Arkansas can have him cause he's overhyped. Really, the kid isn't that good.......and way too slow to be running a SEC offense.
You kidding me? I guess you don't know anything about college football. Put in a freshmen into big game situations and they'll make bad decisions...That's the way it is...Other than that I'm not sure what you're basing your comments on.
I wasn't aware that the SEC has been jam-packed with fast quarterbacks. Actually the SEC has been packed with slow pro-style quarterbacks with strong arms.
I watched him at practice this week...His arm strength sure isn't 'overhyped.' Thanks Michigan lol.
The guy has a cannon for an arm, im not denying that. Im just saying that when he did play at michigan he would make horrible passing decisions which lead to alot of turnovers, incomplete passes and getting sacked alot. Maybe it was because he was a freshman......maybe not. I say he is too slow for sec play because many teams in the sec have strong defenses that are gonna get to him. His scrambling skills are very very weak. Believe me, we were excited to get the kid, until we seen him play.
I'm a Michigan fan, but you are right afterall, Detroit just picked Stafford, an SEC QB, point made. I liked Mallet, damn strong arm, but he doesn't fit RR's scheme and he made a wise decision to transfer. It's all good, I have no hard feelings. Transferring to THE Ohio State Community College however, that would be inexcusable.
Your expectations are way too high for a freshman QB. Henne definitely spoiled us in '04. It takes time for a pro-style QB to develop in college, no matter how talented he may be. I think Arkansas got themselves a fine QB.
Arkansas is getting a canon arm, but as a UM fan I saw every Mallett snap. he olds the ball to long and is sack and fumble prone. Thinks he can do too much like he did in HS. Good luck in the SEC.
That's expected from a FRESHMAN in a major conference. Maturity will fix this. He's got the tools and with the proper coaching, he can be one hell of a QB.
@akafish77 Why would we want to touch the SEC? Probably would get a disease.
Also, I love fair weather fans who only root for an entire conference instead of actually backing a team because of their fear of the team tanking. Got to love you band wagoners.
Besides, I've never really figured out why the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission cared so much about college football.
prototypical pocket passer, my ass. he couldnt get it done against copperas cove, who alamo heights then conquered in dramatic fashion for the 4A state title. GO HEIGHTS
He is definately a Michigan committ, and just like most kids from Texas who go to Michigan he will be attending SMU, A&M Kingsville, or Texas State within the next 2 years.
I read about it earlier this year, i think this is the kid that his dad played at michigan and moved to texas. his son is deciding to follow in his dad's footsteps.
exactly...he wasnt good enough for texas which is the #18 team in the nation but he was good enough for michigan which is the # 3 (2) team? makes sense
first off he already commited to the UofM... but also why would he want to go to crappy program who cant earn their own shot at the title and have to beg and whine for it. Thanks in advance for getting blown out by OSU and proving who the truely deserving team is.
how quickly cooper is forgotten..LLLLoyd as u like to call him was 5-1 against him. Tressel will have his day...oddly it's just how it happens in this rivalry...
I'm sorry but who was the "first" great michigan QB?
Brady was average until he got out of ann arbor. Henson has always been terrible and henne is o-for against the bucks. Maybe you were thinking of brian griese.
I like how ryan mallet opted out of the wolverines and is now behind Brady on the pats. What a waste of great talent.

Rodriguez didn't have much to work with last year. He had two mediocre QBs, lots of players transferred, and he had a terrible defense. This year's team is way more experienced, and will hopefully make a bowl game.
GO BLUE!

Ryan will be a big time player for the hogs and in the NFL, he did very well as a freshmen at Michigan all in all. No doubt his arm is BIG time, he can throw it as far as anyone. Hope to see him tear up the SEC, and wish him the best..
GamblerLV 2 years ago
dude.. i just hung out with Mallett after the red and white scrimmage yesterday. and i watched him play.. he is incredible. there isn't a QB in college that is bigger than he is either. he is 6'7'' 248 lbs.. u sound stupid when you try to criticize someone you don't even know. he is a red shirt sophomore for arkansas and he is amazing. he threw one interception yesterday and had like 200 and something yards passing.. take it from someone who knows him. not just watched him..
SsHsFoOtBaLl59 2 years ago
im a michigan fan and was sad to see him go. First time I saw him play I thought he was going to be the best qb mich ever had.
22wertyuio 2 years ago
Thank god this kid moved on from Meeechigan. He was horrible, slow, made bad passing decisions, and clumsy as all hell. Arkansas can have him cause he's overhyped. Really, the kid isn't that good.......and way too slow to be running a SEC offense.
cloth13 2 years ago
You kidding me? I guess you don't know anything about college football. Put in a freshmen into big game situations and they'll make bad decisions...That's the way it is...Other than that I'm not sure what you're basing your comments on.
I wasn't aware that the SEC has been jam-packed with fast quarterbacks. Actually the SEC has been packed with slow pro-style quarterbacks with strong arms.
I watched him at practice this week...His arm strength sure isn't 'overhyped.' Thanks Michigan lol.
snapura 2 years ago
The guy has a cannon for an arm, im not denying that. Im just saying that when he did play at michigan he would make horrible passing decisions which lead to alot of turnovers, incomplete passes and getting sacked alot. Maybe it was because he was a freshman......maybe not. I say he is too slow for sec play because many teams in the sec have strong defenses that are gonna get to him. His scrambling skills are very very weak. Believe me, we were excited to get the kid, until we seen him play.
cloth13 2 years ago
I'm a Michigan fan, but you are right afterall, Detroit just picked Stafford, an SEC QB, point made. I liked Mallet, damn strong arm, but he doesn't fit RR's scheme and he made a wise decision to transfer. It's all good, I have no hard feelings. Transferring to THE Ohio State Community College however, that would be inexcusable.
Hitman27100 2 years ago
Your expectations are way too high for a freshman QB. Henne definitely spoiled us in '04. It takes time for a pro-style QB to develop in college, no matter how talented he may be. I think Arkansas got themselves a fine QB.

Arkansas is getting a canon arm, but as a UM fan I saw every Mallett snap. he olds the ball to long and is sack and fumble prone. Thinks he can do too much like he did in HS. Good luck in the SEC.
donmatt 3 years ago
That's expected from a FRESHMAN in a major conference. Maturity will fix this. He's got the tools and with the proper coaching, he can be one hell of a QB.

And even if OSU gets better, they still can't touch the SEC. 0-9 Baby. Try to win a bowl game first.
akafish77 2 years ago 8
@akafish77 Why would we want to touch the SEC? Probably would get a disease.
Also, I love fair weather fans who only root for an entire conference instead of actually backing a team because of their fear of the team tanking. Got to love you band wagoners.
Besides, I've never really figured out why the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission cared so much about college football.

first off he already commited to the UofM... but also why would he want to go to crappy program who cant earn their own shot at the title and have to beg and whine for it. Thanks in advance for getting blown out by OSU and proving who the truely deserving team is.
