hmm... well i guess you learn something new everyday...now i know what a pan-indian is. even though i have never heard of it. me myself well I am a NATIVE AMERICAN. i did not come from india!!!! i am a native of america there for i am a Native American..and just so you know i am a full blooded Northern Cheyenne..
HARL: Agree with the way you put it, but the term "pan-indian" can be seen in political terms too. This means a Native can have any tribal affiliation, but also identifies with and is connected to the struggles of ALL Natives and across a wide spectrum. When I use that term, I refer to my own efforts to support all Natives (regardless of tribal affiliation) who are struggling to survive.
To me Pan: means all, everything Indian (native american) . Pan-Indian All Indians all tribes included. Like frybread is pretty much pan-indian... medicine wheels dreamcatchers etc.
iAM APACHE COMMANCE & CHERROKE.. & WE CANT CHOSE WHAT WE ARE . i WiSH i WAS FULL BLOODED. BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU ARENT FULL DOSENT MEAN WE ARE NOT THE PEOPLE. i LOVE BEiNG NATiVE (:
I also think sometimes we should stop trying so hard to get federal recognition. The U.S. government relationship to us has been a farce. We must accept ourselves first and foremost . We don't even recognize our own kin and exclude people...then we want the BIA approved doggie tag. We're killing ourselves.
Nobody chooses to be be mixed blood? Well, nobody chooses to be born, period. Being mixed doesn't denote less-than. Didn't we all descend from 2 Africans? All humans? Life happens from the Creator. . Mixed or not, do you live, feel, eat, breath Native? That's the question. We need to carry our Native conscience with us all day, every day, throughout life. Mixed NDN, only a variation. Being good is more important.
Thanx for addressing this! Let's get real I mean nobody chooses to be mix blooded anyway! I've smacked a full blooded in the head for being a drug addict and acting white!
" full-bloods" are no different then mestizos. a mestizo isnt born from a spaniard and a native, a mestizo is the product an original marriage or raping done at time of conquest and then these mixed children bred amongst each other. " full-bloods" would not be here if they were truelly full bloods. disease so easily killed the red man. only mixing with africans and europeans saved us from extinction.
Beautiful topic brother! I would as well like to see this extend to our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean and South America, as we have been caste aside under gov't policy (and many Native Nations) as "Spanish" because of the language we speak, when the majority of us are in fact, Indigenous and Native peoples of those lands. "Inside every mestizo is either one dead Indian- or one waiting to re-emerge"- Jose Barreiro, Cubanakan Taino, editor for Indian Country
nor should the culture, religion and language left behind as colonial scars make us who we are.
i am nicaraguan( Nicanahuac means furtherest from north american) born in canada. i speak both spanish and english but these alien languages will not rob me of my nicaraguan roots. the last 500 years of our history(indigenous people north to south) has only been a dark age a kin to what happened in medieval europe. RISE UP RED MAN
I never heard of the term Pan indian, yet there are many of us that are of mixed nations, yet there are a lot of us out there who are full bloods, yet really arent ,things were different in the past, when we lived in the old Way,it didnt seem to matter who came from one nation into another. I know im half white earth but that blood in itself is mixed im also red lake and turtle mountain, but thats oral history, not everything that is written pen to paper is written in stone
I would love to see a Pan-tribalism spanning the world of indigenous people. We are all very similar with similar struggles and we all have to work hard only to see a white face in charge of our fates and oppurtunities. I call tribal people "the most human of humans" they can't take that away from us.
That kicks tale. I'm a 'pan-indian' and I get really scared around full bloods. Or powwows where alot of full bloods are. You should post more videos I like hearing you talk.
:D
