Qadir's googly was unpickable and spun a mile. The undisputed King of the googly. Tell you a little story - ive played him in real life - he told me the googly was coming - i watched it closely from his hand but wasn't able to detect a thing! I thought he was tricking me, but lo and behold, i played the wrong line totally! Brilliant bowler.

they shower heaps of praise on Warne who unarguably is a world class leg-spinner, but the cricket world has Qadir to thank for reviving and sustaining the art of leg-break in a period ruled by deadly fast bowlers. No matter what the white cricketing world says Qadir is a legend. If he was not there for which Imran Khan needs to be thanked duly, then the leg spin would have disappeared long before Warne burst on to the scene.

If it wasnt for Qadir Legspin would have been lost in the dark.

@sarq03 Yep, you're right and I think you'll find that Peter Philpott says this as well and probably Benaud. In the 70's and 80's all forms of spin bowling especially Wrist Spin virtually disappeared and Qadir was virtually the only bloke bowlng wrist spin. This bloke carried the art through it's darkest times and I think us white blokes acknowledge his contribution to its history he was one of the true greats.

I find it very hard to bowl a googly- it must be a lack of flexibility because when i try and rotate my wrist at point of delivery and try a googly it is still a leg spinner !!! Can some people not bowl a googly ?

@johnnycheck99 physically its usually not impossible to bowl a googly, it just takes a lot of skill and practice, its bloody dangerous too, I sprained my wrist trying to bowl one.

All the blokes here with the googly syndrome e.g. you used to bowl Leg breaks and then learned the googly and lost the ability to bowl leg breaks. This is a very common thing to happen. You need to read Peter Philpotts book 'The art of wrist spin bowling' but basically you're gonna have to stop bowling wrong uns and re-learn the Leg break. You might have to start right at the beginning again and spend quite some time re-learning your Leg break. The googly syndrome it's a killer!

I loved watching Qadir in the 80's. In those days before Shane Warne, many feared that he would be the last of his type. Thankfully he isn't but he had the most beautiful action of all the leggies I have seen to date. All whirly and twisty and the ball just fizzed on landing. A great bowler.

probably try and bowl a touch more chest on and use the whole of your fingers on release. try and rotate that wrist- it is hard, i have the same problem !!

keep your arm as straight as possible , reverse your hand so inside of facing you, back of your hand is facing batsman, try your legbreak, then go round a bit for the toppie and further still so ball is spinning anti clockwise, the googly can be devasting to shit league batsman

It will be hard to tell without watching your action first, but I think, It sounds like to me that you are bowling a top spinner sort of a leg break, you just need to try to release the ball from the back of hand, try landing on the ball of your left foot as you release the ball that will give you some flexibility in your arm and you will hopefully be able to release the ball from the back of your hand.

i also bowl with a leg spin action but I have the opposite problem ...a googly comes naturally to me but I can't bowl leg spin i.e turning from leg to off to a right hander..I slightly flick the ball before release and that I think makes it go the other way but I want to learn to spin the usual way too...any tips?

I use to ball leg spin and then I leaned the googly. I know what you are saying here you can try by changing your grip on ball a little... gap between upper two and lower two fingers can be varied to get diffrent amount of turn if you increase that gap between your fingers I hope you can release a leg spin.
