There has been a pattern-and I'm not sure if my theory should be taken seriously or not gived that I'm basing this off of only three examples-but they are the only ones of their kind to begin with. Once an angel decides to leave (ditch) heaven, but not join Satan, they gain a more human perspective. #1 Gabriel, #2 Anna, and example #3 Balthezar. Compare their personalities with other angels, and you'll see my point.

Cheers for Balthazar. He's a great addition to the show, and to the cast. Also, what I like about this episode is that they used decent special effects. When and angel or demon disappears, you usually don't see it. In most cases, you just hear a woosh of wind, and Dean or Sam will just move their eyes as if looking to see where said demon/angel has gone. At least in this episode you actually see a magical disappearance. Not bad.
