I'm old school,I can't really afford one of these,so I still use the old tools,I know it's a dying art,but I just love when that black ink flows of that brush just right wow
now that's skill,or when you get that crisp detailed line off a crow quilt, some of you know what I'm saying.
@scarlettangel14 I inked with quill for many years, then with brush for many years, then with a wacom tablet, now with modbook. Same skill just different tools. I still enjoy inking by hand, but it's much slower.
great inking, no matter what gadget was used. i use the cheapest wacom tablet and an old monitor to do my own stuff. it works great. inking hability it´s in your hand and your brain (and in your aesthetic background). greetings from Argentina.
@GingeeBread My wife got mine from Craig's List and we've seen a few more posted. In fact, the other day, i posted one up for sale for $850 that I would have bought if I had the money! If you follow my twitter @raydillon you'll see me post links to Modbooks for sale from time-to-time.
@killzap a modbook is an actual real computer, it dosent have apps it has fully fledged programs like photoshop or painter. The modbook also has the advantage of wacom technology and touch screen devices like the ipad just dont compare, they have no pressure senitivity and personaly using your finger is just not as comfortable as using a nice pen. The ipad is not ideal for drawing, it is designed for people who already have computers but want something modern and more portable.
@killzap The ipad has "Sketchbook Pro" which is a great program for drawing for fun. It's getting more robust, too, though. The modbook is definitely better for professional artists, though. It's a full-on macbook computer with all the trimmings so you can do ANYTHING. not jsut limited by apps.
@jakzaiden real expensive. It's a like $850 if you want them to do it to your macbook, and $1850 if you don't provide the mac. I've thought about it having them mod mine, but I think I'd rather just get a wacom cintiq.
@Metalcortaku There are a lot of medical professionals out there who got one and didn't know what to do with it. That happened in my case and I got it for around $1300. totally worth every penny. It paid for itself almost instantly!
@MrSketchtastic Nothing wrong with that, grandpa! :o) Totally kidding! I work both ways. Digital is just more efficient when you work a LOT on rough deadlines. Or for being mobile. I don't have the option to take easles and paints and brushes etc. etc. all over the country. That'd get ridiculous. I have every tool I could imagine in the palm of my hands.
@CrysKnife77 It IS an apple computer. I mean, they take a macbook and convert it to have the tablet technology on it. For what you're looking for on PC, you'll want to look into a Cintiq tablet.
@saayofu Axiotron, the modifying company have been very nice to me. I really just want to help. It's the best drawing tool out there and Apple isn't really helping them much. They're focused on the ipad when they have a gold mind sitting right there!
Consider: The Cintiq 12 is smaller and has got annoying cables. But it has got the better Pen an the better screen.
The Modbook is really portable which the Cintiq isn't really. The modbook has got a crappy Pen that is not compatible with Cintiq (i tried here for i got the modbook and a Cintiq 21). Modbooks Monitor can be quite annoying, for it is only a small range of angles you have a proper sight on the screen.
You have some good points, but really not as extreme as what you are saying. The sight is fine because you can calibrate it, and you can save calibrations in case you want to change users or angles.
The pen is just fine. I DO miss being able to use Pen Tilt, but it really doesn't effect my workflow. Took a day to get over it.
But, to each his own. The modbook is better for me. Portability is wonderful! And it just feels more efficient for people who do a LOT of work.

Lawlipop1211 8 months ago
@Lawlipop1211 Nope! You can put your hand wherever you want. This isn't a touch screen, it uses a pen.

the big question raydillon
ipad or modbook? I'm still in high school but that dosen't stop my love of drawing
playing+apps in the ipad makes it more atractive (any apps or games on modbook) how's better for games?
is the ipad also good for drawing? who's better if i'd like to draw? who's more sensitive?
hope if you could answer me quick- ty

I was wondering what kind of brush you were using in Photoshop..was it Airbrush pen opacity flow (hard round)...?
Arashocky 2 years ago
Usually with inking I use a hard chisel. Gives it more of a brush or quill look.
I used hard round for years. Works just fine as well.
raydillon 2 years ago
I'm thinking about buying a modbook but I wonder if the lag in drawing isn't annoying and less accurate than working on say a cintiq 12wx.

I was VERY worried about this before. It's very tiny and after a day or two not noticeable at all.
Go for the modbook. You'll thank yourself.
