  • What do they mean when they say Q&H?

  • @18june29

QNH ...It is a pressure setting used by pilots, air traffic control (ATC) it will give you your altitude above mean sea level in your area

  • Great video :)

  • @ 3.07. AIR NZ, yeh baby.

  • howd u get the atc

  • @ReeceMccallum Reece I recorded it at home on my Airband scanner

  • Ive always wanted to know what an ATC view looked like. Great vid! 

  • "Cleared to Brussels", sweet, means I've been handling the flight at the arrival :D

  • thanks wasnt sure

  • Approx 1360 movements per day

  • How many planes take off and land from Heathrow a day?

  • are there more then one speedbird callsigns it seems like a lot of them,

  • @13jam100

Speedbird is the call sign for all British Airway international flights. All BA domestic flights go by the call sign "Shuttle".

  • @FF35Pilot it's actually "same thing" not "and safely"... If it was "and safely" then the "who invented the compass?" wouldn't make sense...

  • Great Video really clear and sharp, I really Appreciate good camera when I see it and heathrow is always the airport I traveled to when I go Home on holiday. or Manchester airport I am seeing family that lives there Now. Thanks for Posting the video

  • I like that Singapore A 380. I can see the cracks on the wings from here.

  • This is Heathrow? I was expecting the take off clearance to sound like "cleared for upsie daisie ol chap".

  • Any delay? Oh yes

  • I love how the South African A340 pilot says his call-sign :D

  • @britishairwayspilot1 lol yeah super

  • oh boy this is great! Wish I can head down there...

  • Amazing video, great stuff :)

  • great stuff,liked,subscribed.keep em coming

  • Gta iv in real life

  • Where is the "Double" like button-Awsome!

  • pilot: delivery hello speedbird 183 747 with information sierra were on standby 39 and were fully ready for New York with the BC clearance controller: speedbird 183 roger standby for starters 15 minute delay on south bound departures pilot: NO were going west! controller: They're the same thing pilot: Oh okay OWNED!!!!!!

  • my gosh I love this video its so amazing!

  • OH my gosh. How you get onto heathrow tower? on the website? i got the blasted iphone app. :(

  • I swear i want to be an ATC at Heathrow so badly...

  • If you meet him again tell him about me. Maybe he knows a friendly hostess who would agree to spend some time with me! To be dead quiet I prefer to go to Oxford Str.

  • i'm lost with all these airplanes!!!!!

  • How come you were allowed in ATC?

  • I would be alone and very quiet and would not say a single word. (Do also have very quiet Nikons - semi-pro). In 2010 I had tried to find out the best place to shoot pictures and the best was the top of a parking opposite to Terminal 3 I think. To far compared to what you show on your video. Early 80s I could fly in the cockpit of a 727 from Tunis Air from Djerba to Munich, landing included, and you won't believe it, without saying a single word!

  • @ALB437 You haven't got to be dead quiet up there.. You're not allowed on the level where the ATC guys are anyway. When I went up there got a tour from someone at NATS, very friendly!

  • upload more!

  • Which airlines callsign was 'Shuttle 18H?'

  • @JaCkErS59

All Shuttle flights are British Airways internal flights

  • @TheDraytonk This is what I love about You Tube. How else would I ever get to experience that? Great video, thanx.

  • @JaCkErS59 That's British Airways. 'Shuttle' is their domestic services. (Flights to Newcastle, Manchester, Edinburgh etc)

  • Open to visitors (hobby photographers)?

  • @ALB437

Visitors are allowed but due to the workload of the controllers I suspect that they don't like to take too many people.

  • @TheDraytonk hello

  • the Quatar 340-600X is a sexy beast !

  • LHR looks busy ! already operating close to 98% capacity. Heard that London mayor, Boris proposed to build a brand new airport @ Thames Estuary i.e with rail, subway links, 4 runways, etc. Hope it comes up soon. coz. already the hardly any breathing space bet flights.

  • Love the Springbok!

  • hey, i installed control towers photocopiers a few years ago.

  • a big well done for a great (allbeit small) insight into LHR's tower....would love to see more like this, this is pure heaven for a keen aviation enthusiast like myself

  • i think a cool aviation challenge would be for sombody to build a small airplane that can cross the atlantic with least fuel consumption. I have often thought about a high speed ultralight with long range fuel tanks trying the journey via iceland and greenland. It would be great for everybody to be able to fly themselves across the atlantic rather than have to rely on a commercial flight.

  • 'we're going west!' - "who invented the compass??? Obviously not the same guy who invented 180 degree runways!

  • @blocka00 thats a mix up with what atc mean and what the pilots thought. i think the controller means delay departing from the runway to the south and the pilot assumed that was flight plan route delays which wouldnt apply to an aircraft heading west but would if it departed from the runway to thew south

  • grear video well done

  • Absolutely amazing! Thanks for posting!

  • Very Nice! 5*

  • Best video i've seen!!!

good job with the radio overlay!

    Simply amazing

  • they are all huge ass planes no small ones

  • THIS IS AMAZING THANKS MATE .....LOVE IT

i WOULD LOVE TO BE THERE AS WELL ....

  • IRAN AIR :D This Means You Were There Around 5pm... Right?

  • I think it was around that time

  • @aryadoroudian No by the looks he was there around 10-12pm. Got that by the QF and SIA A388 which both Depart around 11-12pm. :) The ATC is just added I believe and is not the same time as the video was shot

  • any chance you can get me in? :)

  • "uh we're going west"... "its same thing"... "oh, okay"

  • pilot "speedbird ready for new york" controler "15min delay south bound" polit "were going west" controler "there the same thing" hahahahahahaha :L

  • 'Who invented the compass?' Classic XD what was the response? anyone hear it?

Do more of these videos! Very interesting :)

  • those r all my private plane

  • how dd you get a visit up there?

  • @boeingnerd77 I work at the airport anyway and my son is the Controller

  • @TheDraytonk It´s my dream job :D i am form denmark and i have visited the tower in copenahagen.. !! it´so nice and i learned a lot.. i wish to work in a place like that !

  • awesome!!!!!

  • Excellent!!

It would be good to hear actual radio sounds from the Control Tower to see exactly how their reception comes across :)

Very very nice video. You feel like you are there.

  • Excellent.

It would be good to hear actual radio sounds from the Control Tower to see exactly how their reception comes across :)

  • Is the radio reception from the Tower it self or from a small radio?

[it's just reception is weak on some planes.]

  • I recorded the voice from a Uniden 780XLT scanner at home and overlaid that onto the video.

  • @FF35Pilot you seem to know quite a bit about aviation, at the very start, it focuses on 4 planes, two of which are British airways. Are they both Boeing 777s or are they 767s? I'm guessing they are 777s because I've never seen a 767 for BA...

  • The BA planes are mainly 777's, but there is on 767. BA still have a few 767's left

  • Just to clear this up BAW183 -' Delivery, Speedbird 183, 747 with info S, 992, we're on standby, 39, and we're fully ready for New York with a 'BEC?' clearance' EGLL Delivery - 'Speedbird 183, roger, standby for start, there's a 15 minute delay on southbound departures' BAW183 'nah we're going west' EGLL Delivery ' and safely' BAW183 ' oh, ok...' BAW183 'who invented the compass?'

  • What about start approved, hold position? Would that not mean that you can start the engines but you have to wait for the push?

  • @joemaddock16 I think so

Apparently it stops planes still starting up on the taxiways - so they're ready for taxi ASAP to prevent traffic jams. So I assume they detach all the jetways and baggage carts go away, start up (they have been approved) then go to ground for pushback/taxi

  • What does he mean by start approved , because they don't start engiines until pushback??

  • When he just clears startup +hold position is that if they got clearance from the Datalink system (like SAS MD-82, I think the alitalia maybe also)

  • Great video! ATC -3

  • Amazing view! If you did a timelapse of some of the gates in front over the period of a day it would be the most amazing video!

  • Yes its my companies car. I was just checking it was still there :)

  • Is that your car that you zoom in on at about 0:25

  • Good amount of Virgin Atlantic's in :D shame about the Great British weather ;)

  • Speedbird 183 "Speedbird 183 ready for New York" Tower "15 minutes delay on southbound" Speedbird 183 "we are going west" Tower "and safely" Speedbird 183 "oh ok!" Speedbird 183, I think the tower would know!

  • @robert4810 I think Delivery said, "It's the same thing," because another pilot said, "Who invented the compass?" lol

  • @robert4810 Yeah delivery said "it's the same thing"

  • @robert4810 It's like that time I worked as a till tart at Sainburys for 10 months..."Do you have a Nectar card?......Do you have a Nectar card?......Do you have a Nectar card?.....Do you have a Nectar card?". Then I changed jobs. "Do you have a Nectar card?"......"err no mate, this is a brothel".

  • Great video, thank you so much for sharing. It must be fun being able to visit the heathrow control tower. Btw is Emirates 4 is an A380?

  • Look forward to more Heathrow tower videos.

Well done to include ATC transmissions.

  • this isawesome mate thank you and hope you upload more from Heathrow tower in better weather....

  • 1.04 see how much the Qatar Airways A340 looks bigger than the same plane, in Virgin livery? that's what a good paint job does to the eyes ... Virgin's colour scheme makes the plane look shorter because the tail is all red ... I hate it.

  • @Byron10301 That is because it is a different type of A340

  • @Byron10301 or the Qatar is a different variant - A342 is short, A346 is very long (I think longest in world)

  • @FF35Pilot I guess you are right

  • lolz typical british weather right there. other than that, nice video

  • Could someone please answer this?

Why do some planes get pulled to the runway instead of using their engines?

  • @mtdew123456789 they don't get pulled to the runway... sometimes they have follow me car if they don't know where to go. The only time they would be moved other than with engines is for pushback

  • @mtdew123456789 They don't. What you may have seen is towing traffic. Positioning between stands with no passengers in.

  • very interesting vid...so different. thx!

  • @BritishArrow - The pilot was trying to be clever. A CPT departure goes west but its a South turn out from Heathrow therefore its still considered a Southbound Departure.

  • The New York guy corrected the tower saying "We're going West", what went on there? Knowing nothing about the system, I assume that a New York departure would begin on a southbound heading and therefore still be subject to the 15 minute delay?

  • @BritishArrow i think ATC said.. "that's the same thing"? lol

  • Awesome video xD I went up there in May 2010 part of Year 10 work experience.. its abit like WOW when you get out of the lift its just glass around you lol.

Shame about the weather as the view is even better on a clearer day.

I thought wasn't allowed to upload video from there?

  • awesome!! what a big trafic!!

  • This is probably one of the best aviation videos on YT, thanks for uploading- very interesting :)

  • Awesome video from a unique point of view

  • i always wanted to have the chance to watch or see what its like in the heathrow control tower because i can see it from my house in london, the control ower is high.

  • What frequency is used in the Video ??

  • 121.975 is the frequency for Delivery

  • Wooow so cool vid thanks :)

  • How did you get into the tower?

  • I work at Heathrow and I am lucky enough to have my son working in the tower

  • @TheDraytonk Is that your son on the delivery frequency?

  • Yes it is

  • Never heard or seen anything like this before.

    Very interesting, thanks so much.
