pilot: delivery hello speedbird 183 747 with information sierra were on standby 39 and were fully ready for New York with the BC clearance controller: speedbird 183 roger standby for starters 15 minute delay on south bound departures pilot: NO were going west! controller: They're the same thing pilot: Oh okay OWNED!!!!!!
If you meet him again tell him about me. Maybe he knows a friendly hostess who would agree to spend some time with me! To be dead quiet I prefer to go to Oxford Str.
I would be alone and very quiet and would not say a single word. (Do also have very quiet Nikons - semi-pro). In 2010 I had tried to find out the best place to shoot pictures and the best was the top of a parking opposite to Terminal 3 I think. To far compared to what you show on your video. Early 80s I could fly in the cockpit of a 727 from Tunis Air from Djerba to Munich, landing included, and you won't believe it, without saying a single word!
@ALB437 You haven't got to be dead quiet up there.. You're not allowed on the level where the ATC guys are anyway. When I went up there got a tour from someone at NATS, very friendly!
LHR looks busy ! already operating close to 98% capacity. Heard that London mayor, Boris proposed to build a brand new airport @ Thames Estuary i.e with rail, subway links, 4 runways, etc. Hope it comes up soon. coz. already the hardly any breathing space bet flights.
a big well done for a great (allbeit small) insight into LHR's tower....would love to see more like this, this is pure heaven for a keen aviation enthusiast like myself
i think a cool aviation challenge would be for sombody to build a small airplane that can cross the atlantic with least fuel consumption. I have often thought about a high speed ultralight with long range fuel tanks trying the journey via iceland and greenland. It would be great for everybody to be able to fly themselves across the atlantic rather than have to rely on a commercial flight.
@blocka00 thats a mix up with what atc mean and what the pilots thought. i think the controller means delay departing from the runway to the south and the pilot assumed that was flight plan route delays which wouldnt apply to an aircraft heading west but would if it departed from the runway to thew south
@aryadoroudian No by the looks he was there around 10-12pm. Got that by the QF and SIA A388 which both Depart around 11-12pm. :) The ATC is just added I believe and is not the same time as the video was shot
@TheDraytonk It´s my dream job :D i am form denmark and i have visited the tower in copenahagen.. !! it´so nice and i learned a lot.. i wish to work in a place like that !
@FF35Pilot you seem to know quite a bit about aviation, at the very start, it focuses on 4 planes, two of which are British airways. Are they both Boeing 777s or are they 767s? I'm guessing they are 777s because I've never seen a 767 for BA...
Just to clear this up BAW183 -' Delivery, Speedbird 183, 747 with info S, 992, we're on standby, 39, and we're fully ready for New York with a 'BEC?' clearance' EGLL Delivery - 'Speedbird 183, roger, standby for start, there's a 15 minute delay on southbound departures' BAW183 'nah we're going west' EGLL Delivery ' and safely' BAW183 ' oh, ok...' BAW183 'who invented the compass?'
Apparently it stops planes still starting up on the taxiways - so they're ready for taxi ASAP to prevent traffic jams. So I assume they detach all the jetways and baggage carts go away, start up (they have been approved) then go to ground for pushback/taxi
Speedbird 183 "Speedbird 183 ready for New York" Tower "15 minutes delay on southbound" Speedbird 183 "we are going west" Tower "and safely" Speedbird 183 "oh ok!" Speedbird 183, I think the tower would know!
@robert4810 It's like that time I worked as a till tart at Sainburys for 10 months..."Do you have a Nectar card?......Do you have a Nectar card?......Do you have a Nectar card?.....Do you have a Nectar card?". Then I changed jobs. "Do you have a Nectar card?"......"err no mate, this is a brothel".
1.04 see how much the Qatar Airways A340 looks bigger than the same plane, in Virgin livery? that's what a good paint job does to the eyes ... Virgin's colour scheme makes the plane look shorter because the tail is all red ... I hate it.
@mtdew123456789 they don't get pulled to the runway... sometimes they have follow me car if they don't know where to go. The only time they would be moved other than with engines is for pushback
@BritishArrow - The pilot was trying to be clever. A CPT departure goes west but its a South turn out from Heathrow therefore its still considered a Southbound Departure.
The New York guy corrected the tower saying "We're going West", what went on there? Knowing nothing about the system, I assume that a New York departure would begin on a southbound heading and therefore still be subject to the 15 minute delay?
Awesome video xD I went up there in May 2010 part of Year 10 work experience.. its abit like WOW when you get out of the lift its just glass around you lol.

Speedbird is the call sign for all British Airway international flights. All BA domestic flights go by the call sign "Shuttle".

What about start approved, hold position? Would that not mean that you can start the engines but you have to wait for the push?

@joemaddock16 I think so
Apparently it stops planes still starting up on the taxiways - so they're ready for taxi ASAP to prevent traffic jams. So I assume they detach all the jetways and baggage carts go away, start up (they have been approved) then go to ground for pushback/taxi
FF35Pilot 6 months ago
What does he mean by start approved , because they don't start engiines until pushback??

When he just clears startup +hold position is that if they got clearance from the Datalink system (like SAS MD-82, I think the alitalia maybe also)
