A huge part of this game's target audience are 40k fans who know who the Ultramarines are, what a titan is, and how large scale the setting is. Why else did they barely give an explanation to anything in the story, such as who the Inquisition is, who's the Emperor, why the hell any of these guys are doing this kind of crap.
The wh40k universe is HUGE but yet all the video games stick to the same overused orks and chaos.
There is nothing wrong with that but I really wish the necrons or dark eldar could get more focus or if they have to use chaos at least give us more demons. I mean its not like they don't have dozens to pick from!
I just played the two separate parts of the demo and thought that the jet pack mission was a bit more exciting. But personally I would have thought the game would have been better if you were fighting those alien creatures. I can't remember what they are called but I would have loved to have been killing them rather than just your average run in the day ork...

okay bash the fact you clear out a room then move on gears does that almost ever game goes this only complain i had is there no animation when opening a door some times draw distance builds disappear and kill tanks are in the trailer but not in game last orks sound to human unlike in dawn of war. forget the reviewer this game is 10/10 and very addictive

Being looking at this game for a while not knowing wat it was about since i am new to the series so i went to Steam and got the DEMO wish i know is not like the full game but it gave me a basic idea to how to gameplay is. MY Verdict is this game is not worth more than 10 15 dollars.. NOT hating this is only my opinion. Yes it is repetitive but a lot of games are but this one had nothing appealing to me. Wont even be downloading the Torrent version. Play demo first before you buy.
My initial reaction to the demo was that it's a Gears clone because of the over the shoulder view and control scheme, as well as the bulky Space Marine and chainsaw(I know, Warhammer did it first). But that's where the similarities end. The gameplay is much more hack and slash than Gears and the melee is more fun.
This game is ok, but the multi-player is very unbalanced with assault/raptors being so dominant that soon they will be the only loadout anyone actually plays. They need to make heavy wepon troops armor stronger and assult troopers armor weaker. So unless your a hardcore 40k fan who likes 2nd rate online play I would wait and buy a used copy in a few months after the price drops.
@sobriquet1999 i disagree, when an assult raptor jumps he leaves himself open to attack from all enemies, that and they have weaker sheilds than the other classes. try rolling/jumping away from them when they attack you. they're very weak in their ranged weaponary.

this game was all wrong. it should be a sandbox battle field with mission objectives taking place on the field in real time and you must fight and find your way to them. the ground should be broken! wheres the trenches or craters or crumbling buildings. where do you make your last stand if theres no hills! wheres the martial prowess and pride? no block!!?? some marines are a thousand years old!! you think they got that way not knowing how to block?

Bioware Pre EA, Obsidian has gone to shit as well, did you even play Dungeon Siege III or alpha protocol? I am aware of bethesda's stiff animations, but the masses would eat it up just becuase its on cover. And storywise, they cant go wrong if Dan abbnet writes it for them.
alpha protocol had a great story and choices. Pity it was so buggy but like I said Obsidian does the writing. As for Dungeon Siege 3 yeah that one is just pure shit in terms of gameplay I ignored it completely so I cant comment on the story but as for the game it wasnt dungeon siege.

@godmathias A THQ executive said they probably won't do a sequel because it would compete with their 40k MMO, Dark Millennium Online, which is coming out in 2013. But executives often say things that turn out to be bullshit. So we'll have to see.
I was really disappointed by this game because of the ULTRA linearity, frustrating firefights, and I thought the combat was kind of lame. The guns all feel kind of weak and the melee is kind of clunky. Kind of would like a sequel to improve on that.

That was a fair review, well done. Relic makes little attempt to out-do Starcraft or Gears of War, just reclaim lost ground (cough-chainsaw) it does excel at being WH40k all the way, true that. Lets hope that in the future, given this solid starting point, we'll see other armies and Space Marine chapters - fingers crossed for a Space Wolves vs. Tyranids game, though Ultramarines would have been the obvious choice there. Surely they wouldn't stick w/ a single chapter acros an entire trilogy...

I actually thought this was a fair review. The game just feels too familiar if you have ever played Bayonetta, Castlevania, etc. This game is a hack and slash (w/ guns) that brings no variety to the genre. At least Bayonetta was eccentric and funny at times with a weird ass setting.

That's stupid. You can boil any game down to shooting and slashing, its like saying COD is just run and shoot things and toss the occasional grenade, but millions still play it.

I agree with the review that this game is mindless killing herds over and over again in each corner and each room. There's no good story in it. Heck they only put Orks and Chaos race to fight, but where's eldars and Tao race? Or all the other great races that Warhammer stands for.
@Sunbreaker7 Space marines are famous for fighting the Ork and Chaos, just like the Eldar fight the Necrons. I reckon its trying to keep within the lore of the space marines, perhaps a sequel would introduce new races?
Also i think you have missed the point of the game, yeah its mindless killing.. But as Total Biscuit said "you feel like a badass" and i think it makes the game rather unique as not a lot of games give you that feeling. :)

If u guys wanna shoot some orks then this is just the game for you. It was kinda disappointing for me coz i thought RPG meant buying new weapons or choosing or recruiting new soldiers or even fight from planet to planet like DOW is supposed to be. I have a feeling that the guys on gamespot are some little fanboys,
reason for me saying this is gears of war 3 and resistance 3. I have
both games and there two great games but gamespot didnt find a
fault with any of the two yet they gave gears a 9.5 and resistance 3 a
8.5. Now as i dowmloaded and playing both games i say that that is

Bioware Pre EA, Obsidian has gone to shit as well, did you even play Dungeon Siege III or alpha protocol? I am aware of bethesda's stiff animations, but the masses would eat it up just becuase its on cover. And storywise, they cant go wrong if Dan abbnet writes it for them.

alpha protocol had a great story and choices. Pity it was so buggy but like I said Obsidian does the writing. As for Dungeon Siege 3 yeah that one is just pure shit in terms of gameplay I ignored it completely so I cant comment on the story but as for the game it wasnt dungeon siege.
And for "masses would eat it up" ...are you trying to make a game that will sell good or a game that is actually good?

List of WH40k stuff I want in coming sequels:
Alternate Playable Chapters - Blood Angels, Space Wolves, etc.
Bigger Arsenal - lets see a powerfist in action!
Dreadnaught - that'd be a great ending if Titus dies and gets entombed in a Dreadnaught for a final battle
More Armies - Dark Eldar, Tyranids, other chaos forces like Tzentch demons and Nurgle cultists
New Allies - Catachan Jungle Fighters are high on the list as well as fighting alongside Ogryns
Warpspace - a major starship battle

@godmathias A THQ executive said they probably won't do a sequel because it would compete with their 40k MMO, Dark Millennium Online, which is coming out in 2013. But executives often say things that turn out to be bullshit. So we'll have to see.
I was really disappointed by this game because of the ULTRA linearity, frustrating firefights, and I thought the combat was kind of lame. The guns all feel kind of weak and the melee is kind of clunky. Kind of would like a sequel to improve on that.

That was a fair review, well done. Relic makes little attempt to out-do Starcraft or Gears of War, just reclaim lost ground (cough-chainsaw) it does excel at being WH40k all the way, true that. Lets hope that in the future, given this solid starting point, we'll see other armies and Space Marine chapters - fingers crossed for a Space Wolves vs. Tyranids game, though Ultramarines would have been the obvious choice there. Surely they wouldn't stick w/ a single chapter acros an entire trilogy...

I actually thought this was a fair review. The game just feels too familiar if you have ever played Bayonetta, Castlevania, etc. This game is a hack and slash (w/ guns) that brings no variety to the genre. At least Bayonetta was eccentric and funny at times with a weird ass setting.

@Seandevaney I disagree...if you were expecting a game like gears of war out of this then sure its dissapointing...but I didn't go into thinking that and I had a lot of fun with it....the balance of shooting/hack n slash is good...the only thing i do somewhat agree with you on is to not buy it...but its definately worth renting for 2 to 5 days depending on how much you enjoy the only gameplay...I'd recommend this game to anyone especially the casual gamer..."BUT RENT IT FIRST!" ;]

And what "1.8 Billion customisation options" well what that comes down to is 10 different shades of red. It's terribale, I wasn't looking for Gears of War, I was looking for fun.

I have to agree a lot with this review. I was really excited when I saw the titan, oh how awesome it would be to fight alongside it or to even fucking control it. But it just shoots one gun and you're done. A lot of mindless slashing and shooting. also the story was pretty abysmal, the characters were bland and there was really nothing intresting about it. oh and fuck the ending

I agree with the review that this game is mindless killing herds over and over again in each corner and each room. There's no good story in it. Heck they only put Orks and Chaos race to fight, but where's eldars and Tao race? Or all the other great races that Warhammer stands for.

@Sunbreaker7 Space marines are famous for fighting the Ork and Chaos, just like the Eldar fight the Necrons. I reckon its trying to keep within the lore of the space marines, perhaps a sequel would introduce new races?
Also i think you have missed the point of the game, yeah its mindless killing.. But as Total Biscuit said "you feel like a badass" and i think it makes the game rather unique as not a lot of games give you that feeling. :)
